Can I use NVidia card on motherboard that support only Crossfire?

I want to buy another GIGABYTE GTX 960 WINDFORCE 2X OC Gaming 4GB GPU, but i noticed that my motherboard (MSI B85-G43) supports only AMD CrossFireX. Is there any chance it will work? I don´t want to buy new motherboard.

It doesn't only support cross fire. It is saying it can

Just keeping this here as a Having more that 2 gpu's is usually a wate of money.Unless you don't have the budget for a new gpu and you just want a little kick from the older one or you game at 4k, i don't see the point(aside editing or rendering and all that stuff)

Not going to work on that motherboard. You're better off either getting an AMD card for CF or a slightly higher end single GPU from Nvidia. If you want SLI you'll need a different motherboard. But I would suggest getting a higher end GPU before getting into CF or SLI.

30%? SLI scaling goes way above that. Also, it still makes sense even at the high end. You're not maxing out everything on Ultrawide 1440P or 4K on a single card.

Rarely and depending on the workload.

 

You aren't maxing out everything on Ultrawide 1440p or 4k on 4x SLI or Crossfire as it is. 

 

I like SLI / Crossfire, but it depends on the application. In a lot of games it is about a 30% increase, it's not like that's universal though.

Finally, SLi can sometimes have micro stuttering which is an inherent effect of trying to synchronize 2 GPUs. Micro stuttering is caused the fluctuation in frame latency time between frames when each GPU has a different difficulty of frame. It happens in AFR SLi mode where the GPUs are rendering each alternating frame. Most games use AFR mode.

The micro-stuttering does bug me enough that's for me its worth it to just stick with a single card now.

For my history I used to have 7900 GTX SLi, then 8800 GTS 512 SLi, then GTX 480 SLi. So I do have my fair experience with the SLi technology.

I love my GTX 680 now and I think ill be sticking with a single card from now on.

The only reason I'd go back to SLi is to power something like a triple monitor setup where 1 card just simply isn't enough power for high framerates."

I would just upgrade your single card rather than buying a second card as it seems your motherboard does not support SLI. 1 graphics card is more than necessary for most tasks as long as it is a good card. I suppose you could also just buy 2 r9 380s if you absolutely wanted 2 cards.

True. You could Overclock the card too. I recommend researching on how to overclock correctly before doing.

This is 3 years ago... And he's comparing older generation cards to newer ones. Of course you will hit a point where the latest and greatest card out performs 2 cards from a previous generation. What single card today will out perform my 2 980TIs? Nothing. Maybe Pascal will but that's doubtful until maybe the Pascal TI release. You are also forgetting about DX12 which will change the SLI/CF game completely.

 

I agree that it's not worth going SLI on low-end cards if there is a single high end card with similar performance. But if you want to push high resolutions and high frame rates you'll likely need SLI on the best cards out.
