mac mini media sever

good day,

 I have 2 macbook pros 1 Imac all 3 yrs or newer. 6 mos ago I bought  a 2012 mac mini and upgraded the ram 16gigs. the mini I like to make my media sever with a usb3 hard for media (Itunes and the like)

I have home sharing on. I've tried plex, but for the life of me I can not get it to work.  I have drop box for stuff I ripped and icloud for pics. (these are for back up only) So I ask what can I do to finish this.

You could put mac server on the mini for $19.99 and manage the rest with them.  Has some pretty cool features.  You could also bootcamp it and put linux or windows on it and do some other server things with it as mentioned in other posts in this forum.  I had a friend turn a 2010 mac mini into a minecraft server with linux.  It wasn't too shaby.  Connected to it over the internet.

 

There are a lot of options with that mini.
