sooooooo...... Delete rocckit? Where do I find rocckit?

That was one solution, but if you want to scan for a rootkit, use MalwareBytes. https://www.malwarebytes.org/

If the CPU is at 100% load all the time that could certainly be the cause of the high temps.  I'm starting to think you're barking up the wrong tree looking at the paste/cooler.

As long as the fan is spinning properly and is clean, the paste is good, and the cooler is seated properly, your good on that end.  I think we need to figure out what is eating up your resources and maxing out the CPU.

You should run Malwarebytes.

so it's now 4am I need sleep but as soon as I wake I will try find rocckit and delete it and hope my CPU usage lowers but at this point it seems unlikely anything will fix the heat

Ffs, it's like not drinking in. Pub but then you start drinking due to peer pressure, downloading is like go from one thing to the next trying to sort 76C idle xD

LOL.

On a side note, rest assured Malwarebytes is the best thing since sliced bread, so you aren't wasting any time in downloading it, even if it doesn't solve the issue.

Scan it for malware using the Full Scan function.

Is it worth having premium for my desktop?

Only if you want real-time scanning and other features like scheduled scanning. For our current purposes, the free version is totally fine. Malware detection is the same on the free version as it is on the paid version.

So far it has detected one item; PUP.Optional.PCCleaners located at C:\ProgramData\pclunest.exe

Alright. Tell me what it has detected when it's done.

i feel like the desk was blocking airflow and the fan is almost dead... would you recommend a laptop cooling pad?

You can try getting a cooling pad. I don't know how much it'll help or not.
