Qualcomm enters the smartwatch game with Toq

Gunzkewl

The focus today may be on Samsung's Galaxy Gear, but none other than Qualcomm is entering the smartwatch market with a device it's calling Toq. It's a touchscreen smartwatch designed to be used with Android devices, and is serving as a showcase for Mirasol — Qualcomm's low-energy display technology that's struggled to find acceptance. According to Qualcomm, that same technology makes it much easier to read the Toq's color display in direct sunlight, and gives the device superior battery life. Engadget reports that the Toq should last between three to five days on a charge — a huge leap over the single day Samsung is touting for the Gear.

After downloading a Toq app from the Google Play Store, the watch links to smartphones running Android 4.0.3 or higher, and lets users accept calls, read texts messages and reminders, and control music playback. Qualcomm is also promoting optional wireless Bluetooth headsets as companions for the device. Despite the emphasis on long battery life, the Toq has a clever charging solution, as well: simply set the device down on its case to charge the Toq without the need for plugs or clunky cables (there's room in the case to charge those Bluetooth headsets as well).

Engadget also notes that the device will pull stock quotes and weather conditions, and will feature an array of different watch faces for those that like to switch things up. CNET lists the price of the device at around $300, and according to Qualcomm it will be available sometime in the fourth quarter of this year in both black and white models. With the company referring to the Toq as a "limited edition" device, it's clear Qualcomm hopes the watch will encourage other parties to adopt Mirasol technology as much as it wants the device itself to be successful — but with smartwatches quickly becoming a crowded field it remains to be seen if the company can break through on either front.

All you did was quote the article. Write something of your own instead of resorting to plagiarism.

I know its not legitimately plagiarism because he put the link but he didnt offer anything here.

Its not plagiarism, at all. He quoted and provided source, with a video as well.

The only other thing to do is post his opinion or maybe a TL;DR. At least he had the decency to post sourced information and a source, there's a lot of people who don't.

Did you not read the second part of my post? I understand it's not plagiarism but he could have AT LEAST written something in his own words. Reading an article then summarizing is news. This guy just copy and pasted.

No not everybody. Often the one's who LEGITIMATELY write their own article are screwed because some guy just ctrl+c then ctrl+v'ed the article.

He's not screwed because we give credit, the source.

Many official websites do this on a larger scale than these small forums.

Is there a rule to news posting that you are required to provide your own opinion about the news?
