Rooting a Verizon HTC One M8 on android 5.0.1

So Verizon locked down the One M8 harder than Alcatraz. You cannot root it, as it is bootlocked out of the box by the worlds best phone carrier, so much so, so that you can't even use HTC's own unlocking tool to unlock it. Would this be viable? Ive rooted phones before, should I do it? Thoughts?
