Right, you just proved my point. 

 

The 5820K, having 28 lanes of PCIe connectivity can only support 3 way SLI. It runs at 8X,8X,8X.

 

If you have a 5930K or a 5960X, it supports 4 way SLI, running at 16X,8X,8X,8X.

 

The motherboard itself supports 4 Way SLI, but depending on what CPU you have you are limited to that CPU configuration. 

 

5820K+R5E=3 Way SLI max

 

5930K or 5960X+R5E=4 Way SLI max 

 

PCIe Lanes are purely dependent on the CPU. NOT the motherboard.

Idk what CPU he had, he said he had some X99 CPU. 

Now if it was 990FX where it had PCIE lines based on Chipset and not CPU.....

Dream is to have SLI Pascals EK waterblocks on both and a full loop with a lime green color scheme. Hopefully my 16th birthday will bring it to me!

Idk what CPU he had, he said he had some X99 CPU. 

Now if it was 990FX where it had PCIE lines based on Chipset and not CPU.....

Most likely he had a 5820K because that CPU only supports 3 way If 4 way didnt work on his end then thats the reason why.

So many people freaking out over the motherboard....ENJOY IT, best fucking gaming motherboard in the market, your money, your choice. Some people don't get that. And you got an Enthoo Primo!! Dude, your build is gonna be so badass...Remember that high speed ram changes overclocking a bit tho, i think the default multiplier will be 125, but, if you didn't know this just check out Linus vid on overclocking a 5820k. Oh, and be careful with the included PCIe card for wi-fi, the cables are fragile, i broke mine :(

Congrats on getting that rig man, i'm like 80% happy for you and 20% jealous :P

Right, you just proved my point. 

 

The 5820K, having 28 lanes of PCIe connectivity can only support 3 way SLI. It runs at 8X,8X,8X.

 

If you have a 5930K or a 5960X, it supports 4 way SLI, running at 16X,8X,8X,8X.

 

The motherboard itself supports 4 Way SLI, but depending on what CPU you have you are limited to that CPU configuration. 

 

5820K+R5E=3 Way SLI max

 

5930K or 5960X+R5E=4 Way SLI max 

 

PCIe Lanes are purely dependent on the CPU. NOT the motherboard. 

He can do 4way crossfire which is more pertinent since he has a 290X, who does 4way GPU configs anyway, there is no reason to get a 5930k, just check the sales on that chip, it's the bastard brother of haswell-E

ROG boards are...special, you can't logically justify the price, they are simply fucking awesome and i am tired of people criticizing every component anyone buys because they think it's better. It's his money, if an ROG board makes him happy, why the fuck the asshole parade has to come and shit their pants at the price tag (Not directed torwards you, but other people in this thread and forum)

Also, AMD GPUs only need 4X PCIe lanes per card, why wouldn't he be able to (hypotethically) do 4way crossfire?

I mean I don't think I'll fully utilize the full power of an i7 5820K (or early/mid 2016 equiv.) initially but I feel like it allows me to grow into the CPU and even the platform itself. (Whereas Z97 and Z170 won't really have that type of growth.)

If I ever need more CPU power, X99 should still offer me that in the future. (Which is why I'm willing to wait longer so that I can save up the money to afford something that won't be like totally insane but at the same time pretty awesome. Sure I could get a great $650 system that'll do the job for content creation and gaming but then I sort of have to give up certain aspects that I don't really want to give up (Aesthetic, Reliability, Speed, and Silence.)

 

(Though I wouldn't consider my future X99 system to be like a lambo or Ferrari but rather a luxury hybrid or electric car)

Black/White is what I'd want the most but I'd tolerate Black/Silver (or Grey) or Black/Orange (Then I could do an i7 5820K and Sapphire Tri-X OC R9 Fury)
