Laptop ASUS K50IN CPU upgrade question

Hi everyone :) ,

I've done some research on the net about upgrading my laptop CPU and got to a conclusion that the highest CPU possible to upgrade would be Intel Core 2 Duo T9500. I would like to know if someone had the experience with this particular or similar laptop model and went trough the CPU upgrade process successfully?

My laptop info:

ASUS K50IN, nvidia nForce 730i ( southbridge), nvidia ID0A83 chipset, Intel Pentium Dual core T4200 (2.0Ghz,1MB L2 cache, 800Mhz FSB, 35W TDP, 45nm Penryn architecture, socket P (478)), 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD HITACHI 5400RPM (due to be upgraded soon to an SSD ->> MACH EXTREME MX-DS 60GB SATA II since that is the latest SATA supported on my laptop motherboard).

And would like to upgrade my CPU to an Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 which matches the FSB,socket type, Architecture and CPU TDP.

Anyone went trough this successfully before or with a similar laptop model?

P.S. - And yes I did found on google some successful cpu upgrades on similar models but not on my particular one. And yes my CPU socket is upgradable (it isn't soldered on my laptops motherboard.  :)

I dont think you would get much of a differance between a core 2 duo a dual core pentium! What do you use ur latop for?? i would go for a ram upgrade and a much larger capacity SSD than u are planning to get!

I would feel the difference since T9500 has 6mb of l2 and l3 cach whereas my pentium has 1mb l2 cache and none l3. That said, I use my pc for all and everything. Ram is already at max (4gb, as far as the asus support site says it can go). SSD is 60GB because I've been presented an opportunity fot that particular model for a good deal, no other reasons. Besides, if I am going trough with all these upgrades, I'll probably buy myself a 12.7 caddy DVD drive adapter, so I can reuse my old 250GB 5400 rpm HDD as a secondary drive.

Still, anyone thinks this CPU will work based on the current info that I gathered, or does anyone have other thoughts on this?

Hi there,

Yes U can change your CPU.

I have the same notebook and I did the upgrade.

CPU Type Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T9400, 2533 MHz (9.5 x 267)
Motherboard Name Asus K50IN Series Notebook
Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA MCP79
System Memory 4096 MB  (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)

The 1066 FSB works fine if your BIOS version is 213 or higher.

Cheers

Sorry to revive this thread, but this is the only one that addresses this particular laptop.

I recently did an upgrade from T4200 to Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P9600(6M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) because of lower TDP (25W) versus T9xxx (35W).

This translates to cooler operation and greater battery life.

I managed battery lifetime slightly better than 3 hours on "quiet office" power plan browsing with firefox and doing some excel work.

The 1066 MHz FSB was troubling me, but I found a release of this laptop in Australia which came with P8700 CPU ([DISCONTINUED]-ASUS-K50IN-K50IN-SX077X) and this one supported the 1066 MHz.

So, I know it's a bit late, but maybe this information is helpful to someone, I know it could have saved me a lot of time.

Cheers!
