Store photos and videos, stream movies and music to HTPC and main PC, I won't do nightly backups .

As for the OS, I haven't decided yet.

I should go with 2 drives and as OS Nas4Free. Put the 2 drives in a ZFS mirror and make network shares. Just go with 2x 1tb 2tb or 3tb just how much you need. ANd consider a usb harddive to make backups. There is no need for a monitor mouse keyboard because nas4free ahs a nice web interface. You motherboard cpu mem is fine with nas4free. Good luck with you choices

I would change the board to like an ASRock Z77M or Z77 Extreme4-M which are both micro-ATX but have support for software RAID then get at least one more drive and run RAID 1. Don't worry about getting a keyboard ect as you may be able to use Remote Desktop depending on what you go with otherwise you could just use your existing keyboard to save a bit of money.

Yes, hardware RAID is better in most cases but you don't have the budget for it.

Of course i will expand it in the future, but for now this is my budget and I didn't find an ASRock MB in my country.

Will try to buy one when I have the money for it.

As for the HDD's I got 3TB for storage and a 160GB for boot, both from Seagate.
