New Graphics Card

Monti
Go to solution Solved by david cassar,

OK thanks. I just torn on which of the 3 i should buy. I would like to pick this carefully becasue last time I bought a GPU anytime I wanted to do something that wasn't gaming the computer would freeze. Only with that GPU my other one worked fine. I would assume you are a PC gamer, which one would you pick if I was to keep my 1240x1080 res monitor and keep this card for about 2-4 years :) .

Hd 7850 1gb and oc it.

I've been trying to find a new graphics card that will fit my needs for about 2 months now. As of now I have AMD 7770, AMD 7790, AMD 7850, Nvidia 650 ti boost as options. I don't know what size of the card I should get (resolution is 1240x1024). I need a card that will last me a few years and be able to play some new tiltes at accepatalbe settings. I won't be playing BF4, maybe COD. Just need something that can play those kinda games (online, and casual). My bugdet is anything up to 170 to 180 USD. Thank you for any help and if I don't find one I will probalbe explode.

But I need a graphics card because I can't play any games even on low setting. What about a 1gb 7850? I also need a case fan (140mm) and a new internal HDD and my spending amount is 300 USD. So if you can make a combo do graphics card, fan, and HDD that would be the most helpful.

1GB would be plenty for your resolution but are you planning on staying with 1024x1024 forever?  If you ever plan on getting a modern monitor you should opt for 2GB VRAM at least.  Even a used GTX 580 could be a good option IMO....

agreed, search your local used ads for a good offer on a GTX 580, but also if your going for a 7850 and planning on sticking with it for quite some time your going to want to grab 2GB model if you can stretch your budget

Sucks cause i upgraded to two 7950s from a 2gb 7850 a lil over a month ago and i just sold my His IceQ 7850 2gb card for $100..But that was a great card i could get 60fps on BF3 on 1080p..The reason i upgraded is i got a OCed 1440p 120hz monitor.. ;)

From those either choose the gtx 650 ti boost or the hd 7850:

Pros of hd 7850: Free games

                           Monster overclocker

                           Low power consumption

Pros of gtx 650 ti boost: Slightly faster then hd 7850

                                      Nvidia technology

Better if you are thinking of getting another for a multi gpu setup.

If i were you i would get the hd 7850 and just overclock it, once ocd you are pretty much set.

650ti boost is my vote, enough for 1080p gaming with decent presets and they are an absolute beast in sli, if you want to upgrade later.

I know I can find the 650 ti boost 2gb for about 170 USD and I can find the 7850 2gb 230 USD with 2 cooling fans and 200 USD for 1 fan. Which is better for the 7850 1or 2 fans. Also which card is better by itself because I plan to not go crossfire of SLI anytime soon.

2 cooling fans are usually more quiter and cool much more efficiently than a single fan. If the price difference is that big i would go with the boost.

But only using 1 card which one is better 7850 or 650 ti boost?

gtx 650 ti boost is a bit faster(5-10%) after the drivers. But the hd 7850 can overclock and beat the gtx 650 ti boost.

Are the 3 games really worth the 5-10% proformence? Because the 650 ti boost if a little fast but only come with in game money to games I don't play. Also the 650 ti boost is cheaper. The 7850 is a little slower but come with far cry 3 dlc, bioshock infinite, and tomb raider. Price doesn't matter between the two cards.

Also it sounds like people are having trouble with their 7850 because they keep dying.

The gtx 650 ti boost is 30-20% faster than the hd 7790.

The hd 7790 is significantly slower than the gtx 650 ti boost . Also if you want the free games why not get this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150642

Now looking more into these cards your guys are right. I can go with a 7850 1gb (i don't know if that is enought RAM for 1240x1080), the 650 ti boost if the 7850 is good enough, and the 7790 for a lower teir card. the only game I would like from AMD's bundle is Bioshock infinte. I really can't go over 170 dollars becasue I'm on a tight budget.

1gb is enough for 1280x1024. The hd 7850 also is a great overclocker.

is it better than the 650 ti boost? Also will it play Crysis 3 and last a few years?

The gtx 650 ti boost is a bit better and in crysis 3 the gtx 650 ti boost(or nvidia cards in general) perform better than amd : http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/03/26/nvidia_geforce_gtx_650_ti_boost_video_card_review/4#.UbOJPKJTDWY

(If you are wondering why the hd 7790 has 48 fps, it is because it is playing at medium while the boost and hd 7850 are playing high settings.)

There are these cards I found on Newegg.com

XFX 7850 1gb (1 80mm Fan)  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150642

XFX 7850 1gb (2 Fans)  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150656

Gigabyte 7850 2gb (2 Fans)  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125419

Only the Gigabyte one if 1gb isn't enough to make this card last a few years.

Im new to this I have a nVidia 680 li SLI motherboard. Does that mean it will favor nVidia cards more becasue it is made by them?

In theory 2gb of vram is more future proof than 1gb so keep that in mind. It means that the game engine runs better or is optimised better to run on nvidia gpus.
