550 W for i7 10700K and 1070TI

Greetings,

I want to change my mobo and CPU (i5 8400) for a 10700K (msi tomahawk z490 or gaming x) but I have a EVGA G3 550W (https://latam.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-G3-0550-Y1).

So according to gamersNexus the i7 10700K at 5.1 consumes 267.6 W from 12 V Rails:

And the msi 1070tI TITANIUM CONSUMES 180w at stock: https://latam.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1070-Ti-Titanium-8G/Specification

So, I was confident that the new 10700K and 1070TI would work with the 550W gold evga G3 consuming less than 500W on full loads.

But on the MSI forums while asking about the extra 4 pin needed for the CPU (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/msi-z490-tomahawk-questions.346681/ ) someone said

Quote

"550 W seems too low for that processor, especially with any relatively decent graphics card. I'm using an EVGA G2 850 (5 years old) for my 10600K and it had the extra connector. Works well. The extra connector isn't required for normal use, but if you want to overclock a 10700k to 5 GHz, you'll probably need it. I would think you'd want at least a 700 W power supply."

Would the 550W work with the i7 10700K overclocked at 5 Ghz paired with a 1070TI?

Thanks.

Yes 550w is enough for this build for the most part.

The 8 pin eps can easily provide 384w of power, which is enough for an overclocked 10700k.

Fun Fact: The Meshify c is the best case to ever exist.

i would get 10600k instead of the poor binned 10700k. and te saved many goes for :

extra ram or/and

extra storag or/and

extra SSD or/and

save the money for the next upgrade. with that motheboard you could get i5 11600k or i7 11700k when they are launched next year

Thank you, What do you mean by "for the most part"?
