60C is where 1060 cards start throttling, so 59 is the desired number... (usually am quite under around 55C)

Spoiler

yes this is "on air" no water or ice whatsoever (ambient temp between 20-25C)

(of course that will be highly depend on case, fans, GPU cooling efficiency, etc, but for me this is "perfect")

@Mark Kaine ahh that's interesting just sounded quite low to then throttle at that number. I have a 1070 and it does not start to throttle till about 83C thats with a crappy blower cooler.

I'm pretty sure that's for all GTX 10xx series cards though  83C is the "hard limit" (for boost)

but they start throttling much earlier (noticable at around 60C)

mind you the difference going from 59 to 61 C is about 12mhz only, but then every C counts, hence ~60C is where it noticably starts throttling.

My Zotac Amp! Extreme 1080's fans only used to start at 60C.

So you're saying it's only 40C with the RTX 3080 FE? :(

Being controllable via. software is not the same as you can't save that temperature limit to the BIOS.

What's the default?

How do you change it?

If it's a via. software, a simple driver update could change the setting back to normal. Ball ache to keep checking every time you update the driver.

I prefer a vBIOS setting.

no. never happens. if you insist on updating MSI Afterburner it might though.

I think AMD has that option (kinda baked in in their driver), NV does not.

I've tried changing clocks on various GPUs in the past in software and they always revert within days or weeks at most (and obviously you never know when they revet unless you keep checking).

If it's not vBIOS, it's pointless unless for temporary testing purposes.

Anyway, it appears the fans on the RTX 3080 FE turn on at 60C at a vBIOS level. Excellent 👍

Thank you, all.

no prob!

however, it's weird my fancurve never changes after a driver update (or otherwise) using this GPU since 2 years now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
