Which GPU?

Hey

I'm in the market for a GPU to pair with the PC parts listed below.

I want to game at 1920x1080 at max settings 60FPS, I've been looking at the PowerColor Red Dragon 5600XT, but I can see users have reported driver issues with the 5600XT cards (in general), is this still true? I know the 2060 has been suggested as an alternative, the price difference is roughly £60, is it worth it?

GTX 1660 Super and save some money, only game it won’t max out is Red Dead Redemption 2, but not many GPU’s can (dunno if you play that or not) but not even my 1080 ti can max that out at 60 fps 1080p.

 

If you prefer AMD 5600 XT would be good, but I’d really consider the 1660 Super or 1660 Ti. 2060 is more of an entry level 1440p card, unless of course you plan to make use of Ray Tracing and DLSS, in which case that’s your only choice. 1660S although it has a few CUDA Cores less than the 1660 Ti, its faster VRAM makes up for it and puts it within 5% performance level, in which the core can be overclocked to match performance for $60-$80 less than the 5600 XT and 1660 Ti.

RD2 is a game I've already completed on my PS4 and would not be playing it again.

 

I have no preference over team red or green, I just want a GPU that can handle my gaming needs, this machine is basically a gaming system only. I would like to buy the GPU that is going to get me 1080p for the longest time, I've had my PS4 since launch and I'd like the same with my PC parts (if possible).

A 5600xt will be a very capable card for 1440p 

As for the model the red dragon one is a non reference card and is pretty decent

I'd like to say that I will be running Linux on a seperate SSD later on so whichever GPU supports Linux more would be preferred.

I'm not into Linux but a quick search told me with a recently updated distro

I’ve had better luck with the Nvidia propriety drivers than I have had with the MESA drivers from AMD in Ubuntu, can’t speak for any other distro though, but the AMD Mesa drivers are quite a bit better than the windows drivers for a comparison point.

 

But really it factors down to price, if you can justify a 5600 XT get that, if you can’t allocate budget get the 1660S.

The 5600 XT? I thought so, I've had problems with Nvidia and Fedora, but this is a while back.

For Windows the RX 5000 series has some driver issues if you update driver each month how ever for Linux I have no clue what the status of drivers are...

Black screen and needing reboot is a popular issue, tough that is fixed by picking a stable driver and not updating each month.

Hmm that is concerning, but I think I can wait for stable drivers to be released before updating.

Its RDNA its brand new older GCN cards have no issues so they just gotta iron it out which hopefully will not take to long! (Think there are a few stable ones listed on AMD reddit if you wanna go now)
