Aha! Overclocking a non-K CPU can be done (Proof)

DoubleY

I have the Intel Core i7 4770 (non k). I was curious if it was possible to OC it, despite popular belief. Turns out, it is possible! Here is proof:

JwXxNwI.png

You can clearly see that I am at a core speed of 3787MHz. I haven't tried to push it further because I don't have good enough cooling (Bad mount on my 212 EVO and I don't want to re-seat it)

Pretty stable. Ran it through Intel Burn Test and it did just fine. Stock voltage and everythang. Although, it did get hot so I shut it down. Time to get better cooling :D

Let me guess... Modified the base clock or bus speed?

you might want to set your voltage manually if you can as well, its much to high considering your barely above stock

So yea guys all the k means is that it has a unlocked multiplier, you can still oc with out that but youll only have a step or two above turbo if that.

I thought this was kind of common knowledge. I have been running my 3350P slightly OCed on stock cooler for awhile.

If you enable XMP on bridges & haswell you get the full quad turbo under load. And no it's not an auto OC, just another voltage built in the cpu.

  • 1 month later...

Any proof that all cores run to 3.8 ghz? According Intel specs 4 cores - 3.7ghz, 3 cores - 3.8, 2 and 1 cores - 3.9. Rum prime 95 to load all 4 cores and see what shows cpu-z. If shows 3700, then overclock is unsuccessful. If you see over 3700 mhz, during full load, perfect.

Sorry for my english :)

haswell non K processor is imposible to overclock. Only chance for that is if your mobo have in bios ''multicore enhancement'' or something like that and bios version is before june 2013. After that, intel disable this function to work on non K processors.

Prime95 isn't a really good indicator anymore. OCCT is MUCH better.

I'm not sure that prime95 loaded all core to 100%, but when all cores loaded 100%, they run 3.7 ghz i7-4771 and 3.6 ghz, if you have i7 4770, i think. Watch cpu-z when all 4 cores is loaded 100%. You will never see 3.8 or 3.9 ghz.

As I recall, it tends to make Haswell's voltage go through the roof, and either way, it's in no way realistic (even in a worst-case scenario, like video editing or folding).
