unable to overclock sapphire rx 5700 core clock above 1850mhz. when i try it automatically sets back to 1850mhz. factory clock is 1750mhz, tried both amd software and msi afterburner

That's probably the power play table for your card. Each AMD card has a predefined limit in its bios, set by the manufacturer. it determines, the max voltage and max clocks. It's read the first time you boot into windows and stored in the registry. The only way to get around it is by editing the PowerPlay Table in registry, if you google around you can find some registry scripts that do this for you.
