Replacing a cracked screen... Help.

Val

Hi,

Long story short... A family member cracked the screen on my Acer Aspire A315-51-35FR laptop. https://www.newegg.ca/black-acer-aspire-a315-51-35fr-everyday-value/p/N82E16834316459?Item=N82E16834316459

I think i've found some replacements for the 15.6'' 1366 x 768 display?? https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Acer/ASPIRE~3~A315-51~SERIES/  Should I get the Matte or Glossy finish? I see an option for a FHD (1920x1080) screen over the 1366 x 768, should I upgrade to 1080?

Any advice would be great.

Replace with the resolution that came with your laptop, upgrades don't always work (used to replace screens as part of my job...done many many laptops)

Thanks for the reply.

Out of curiosity... any reason why it wouldn't? I know an identical skew of the Acer Aspire A315-51-35FR exists with the only difference I can see being the 1080 screen (ie. same CPU, screen size mounting). Do I need any double sided super adhesive tape or anything?

I have seen some systems that go stupid because they expect the original size and the new one causes havoc. Unless you can get a good return policy, I'd play it safe and stick with the default one.

As to parts, you'll need to *carefully* and I can't stress this enough, *carefully* remove old one, and you'll see what you need. Typically only thing needed is the new screen, the existing tape can be re-used

Hey Val,

Its always recommended to replace your cracked screen with the same spec'ed screen just to be safe.

The problems of upgrading resolution mainly stems from the insufficient video cable throughput - missing wires. What Radium mentioned is also a possibility - the system maybe tweaked for a pre-set resolution, but such problems aren't as common anymore. Reinstalling a newest video driver directly form the chip manufacturer (nVidia, AMD, Intel) usually solves such software related quirks.

I don't think there is anything preventing you from upgrading the resolution on your particular laptop, since it uses a 30-pin 2-lane eDP cable, your current video cable is likely good up to 120Hz @ 1080p. So you can go all out and get this 120Hz, IPS panel: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/N156HCE-GA2/
Or you can get the 1080p screen from the link you posted...

Whatever the choice you pick, LaptopScreen.com will take care of your return at no-cost in-case the screen doesn't work for you for any reason.

****UPDATE****

Sorry for the late reply. IRL things...

I’m adding some photos and further information.

I’ve found what I’m pretty sure is the LCD cable: https://www.aliexpress.com/i/32951473776.html It says LVDS and the numbers seem to match.

MY cable for reference:

I’ve included a blowup of a 30 and 40 pin connector.Acer-Aspire-3-A315-51-35LM-156-LED-_57.thumb.jpg.d9700ee5a9814d513044788581f29d57.jpg

My eyes aren’t the best but i’m 99% sure the back of MY screen panel is 30 pins. You’ll notice the 30 pin connector has 2 small divots on each side, my screen 100% has those. The 40 pin connector has either “T-PEZ or I-PEZ” written on the brass while mine has “I-PEX”.

I’ve also found a screen with the matching part number as my original: http://www.panelook.com/N156BGA-EB2_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_28556.html It says eDP 30 pin 1 lane.

*My Original screen for reference: 16652067_LaptopOriginalScreen.thumb.jpg.2beba80fd293dbb1f2bec217e2910113.jpg

IF so I THINK i’ve found a 1080p model? http://www.panelook.com/N156HCA-EBA_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_28923.html It’s also eDP 30 pin 1 lane.

Maybe I can see something by removing the whole rear of the laptop in hopes of more information on exactly what cable is used. Perhaps more photos to come.
