Should I Swap Out PSU For Something Smaller?

Gronnie

So I repurposed a system to be a Media Browser 3 server. It no longer has a GPU in it, and I am wondering if I should put in a smaller PSU and keep what is in it as a backup for one of my other systems.

The setup is an i7 3770k cooled by an H100i, with a Z77 Extreme4, 2x8 GB DDR3 1600 RAM, a 256GB Samsung 830 OS drive, and 6x4TB Seagate HDD. It has an aftermarket Intel Gigabit NIC. No monitor is hooked up to it, any maintenance is done over RDP.

It has an HX750 in it, but if I can pick up something like a CX430M next time it goes on sale, will it be enough to run it? The 3770k is not overclocked right now, but videos do get transcoded in real time when streamed to Android phones, Roku 3, etc. and CPU usage goes to 100%.

Unless you have one lying around, I wouldn't bother. No point in spending money if your PSU can already run it

Yeah, unless you want to sell your current PSU or use it in a different build, leave it in there, it's not doing any harm.

First Build:| Gigabyte 990FXa-UD3 | FX 8120 4.0Ghz | Coolermaster Seidon 240M | Asus Radeon HD 7870 | Kingston HyperX 3k 120GB SSD + WD Green 2TB HDD | Corsair RM750 | 8Gb Kingston HyperX 1866Mhz CL9| Fractal Define R4 White/Windowed |

So say I did want to put this PSU in a different system, what wattage PSU should I be looking for to run this server?
