Gaming / streaming rig all in one!

Recker

Hey all so i'm deciding to bite the bullet and spend some cash on a rig for gaming / streaming.

I was wondering if you guys could help shed some light in helping me decide.

The problem is i have no idea what to choose lol I've been looking at the ryzen 3700x / 3900x and i believe either one would be surfice for doing the job probably the 3900x for more cpu demanding games.

The next confuson comes from the motherboard do i go for the x570 or get a x470? I'm personally not a fan of the little fan on some of the x570 motherboards.

My budget is just over £2000. I'll be gaming at 1080p as i have a 144hz gsync monitor already. If needed i could use my current gtx 1080 if a new gpu exceeds the budget.

Thanks for reading!

From what i've heard the x470 doesn't damage the performance of the 3rd gen processors so i guess you'd be good with that

GTX1080 is more than enough for 144Hz 1080p.

3900X is overkill, you don't need a 12c/24t CPU for any game.

I did.  People are streaming with 6/12 CPUs just fine.

Good info in this thread.... were you really waiting for Ryzen 2 to upgrade that long ago?

Have a look at the B450 gaming pro carbon, better than most X470 boards besides Taichi.

B450 tomahawk would also be a solid enough choice I’d think for the 3700x

A 8c/16t Ryzen 7 3700 or even a 6c/12t Ryzen 5 3600X should be plenty to handle your graphics card, as well as stream games. Be sure to get fast dual channel RAM.

Some 16gb 3200mhz ram good enough?

If I recall correctly 3600 mhz is the 'sweet spot' recommended by AMD for their Zen 2 CPU's if you can afford it, but 3200 mhz should be plenty fast.

You don't need to splash out for 3600 CL16. Unless you can get it for the same price as a 3000 - 3200 kit that is which is doubtful.

Something like this would do fine.

MSI B450 Tomahawk or B450 Gaming Pro Carbon both have bios flashback so you can update without a cpu. Pretty good boards for the money.

Was looking at something like this.

Anything i could change or does this look okay? I was going to change the 860 evo to a 970 m.2 but pc part picker was saying "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled." I'm somewhat sure i would be okay but i'm not 100% sure.

Crucial MX500 2TB is cheaper. There is also the Intel 660p although it isn't the best example of an NVMe SSD.

You set on an AIO ? You could go with a cheaper air cooler otherwise. There are ones that don't block ram slots so the RGB would still be visible. Arctic Freezer 34 esports duo and Alpenfohn Brocken 3 are two examples. There is also a dual fan version of the Alpenfohn in both black or white.

Dual fan version of the Alpenfohn. They also sell the White one and the normal single fan version.

I'm pretty convinced on the AIO if im honest with you!

Personally i'm thinking of just getting a x570 board and getting it to work right out of the box lol The amount of posts on AMD reddit with people having problems with x470 and b450 boards is crazy. I'm just scared of that little fan on the board dieing.

Yeah nothing wrong with an AIO if you want that.

Only issues I know about was the size of the bios chip being a bit on the small size (16MB) so they had to drop support for some of the earlier Athlon cpu's and raid support. The Tomahawk and Gaming Pro Carbon do have an updated bios file though on the website so it should be fine now.

The bios flashback procedure is pretty straightforward.
