Powering GPU with 2 PSUs

FlushaDev

Hello to the community,

I have a GTX 970 NVIDIA Founders, and my PSU has only one 6Pin while the card needs 2 6Pin connectors, I connected 1 six pin from the main PSU and the other 6 pin from the other external PSU, the GPU worked normally, but it wasn't detected in windows, then I just powered it with the 6 Pin from the main power supply only and the GPU was recognised but device manager spit out "Code 43: Windows stopped this device because it is causing problems" I have already ordered another PSU, I just wanted to know if it's possible to power it while I wait for the PSU to arrive.

Thanks!

No

And what PSU did you get?
What PSU do you have??

It might also be possible that you killed your GPU with your other PSU.

And no it get's detected even after I powered it with the PSUs so we're good

Bad idea if you don't know what you're doing.

If the 2nd power supply is only powering the GPU then chances are it's sending dirty power to it or simply voltage through the signal wire which means only a tiny amount of current reaches the card, what you need, especially if this PSU is unbranded (cheapo type) is to balance loads on all rails to make it work properly, a simple contact between the green wire and a ground isn't enough for this scenario in particular, to do it properly you'll need to solder, rewire, cut and add transistors, resistors and fuses. I've done it and I'm running a dual PSU config right now except my aux unit is mainly for fans and special purposes.

Is it worth to do this? well, for just a few days and only a graphics card not at all

Power efficiency and a company name do not help.  What exact model name is listed on the PSU and wattage would help too.

The PSU I'm buying is

Name: Pure Power 11 500W CM

Model Number: BN297

Site I ordered from: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07JHLD38L/
