Working pc in garage?

Go to solution Solved by onionring,

I'm thinking that the powerline would be the best alternative then. Can you recommend any?

they re pretty much all the same, (they must respect a communication standard). i d just get the cheapest kit you can get. (i got my trendnet kit for 40$)

the kit i use:

http://m.ncix.com/products/sku/81383

a completly identical set (except the outlet) but its currently on sale (40$)

http://m.ncix.com/products/sku/80858

it would also be interesting to get the kit from somewhere you can return it if you don t like it.

Maybe I bought a crappy device but it would be better with a straight up cable.

Post when you have time, no worry :)

I'm going to return my ap that I bought, it cost like 40$ so I wasn't expecting much anyways.

It was an Tp-Link, model TP-WA730RE.

The problem was that I couldn't connect it to my own wifi.

It had really bad signal withing the garage so I'm thinking that if it's going to work that way I may need to pay alot more.

I'm thinking of running a Cat5e from my window (2nd floor) to my garage window which is like 5m so I think I'm Ok

straight up cat5 isn t resistant enought to last outside, and there s the problem of always having a window open.

there is some exterior cable available but it s more expensive.

i would go with a powerline kit if i were you.

I thought that I would squeeze it between the window since I never have it open anyways.

Which cable do you recommend that will last outside for a while?

And how reliable is a powerline in mining purposes?

powerline reliability is fine, you ll get maybe a drop out every 2 month...

(personal experience when i ran 3 routers on the same network, so that setup is way less stable than just 1 router to drive the power line)

and if it crash. it ll blink red and you would only need to unplug/replug it.

idk what cable would last outside (no experience there), i would just run it in a pvc pipe. maybe look for exterior cat5e cable in google and see what comes up.
