VPN and wifi connection issues

So randomly having issues when connecting to the internet while gaming.

For a while, no issues.

Never have issues on my laptop, but on my PC that I game with, I have windows 10 and use a wifi usb dongle.

For a while moving it to a different usb hub, turning the wifi on/off or restarting the computer would fix the issue.

Then it would get really slow or not work using a VPN as well, and now it only works with a VPN running.

 

Also, the wifi icon would say it wasn't connected, but when I'd click on a link in a browser, I'd connect, then a few seconds later the icon would change.

Any ideas what could be going on or any tests that can be down to trouble shoot?

Wjtepanik, ok then why does the internet work with a VPN on then?

How would I trouble shoot this and what would be the solution?
