Am I being bottlenecked?

I am using a Alienware Area 51 ALX from 2010, and have recently upgraded to a 1080 gpu. Is my i7-930 bottlenecking me too much, so that I need to replace my motherboard/cpu?

Bottlenecks depend on what games you're playing, the resolution you're playing at, your settings, and if the game is CPU or GPU bound.

Do you get enough fps in your games? If you want 60 fps, and get 60 fps, then everything's ok. If you want 100 fps and get 100 fps then everything's fine.

If you don't reach your desired fps (be it 100, 60 or whatever) then yes your cpu would be the cause of those issues.

Monitor your GPU usage while gaming...make sure you don't have Vsync on or other framerate limiter and let it rip...your GPU usage should be very high (90%+...ideally 95%+) and your framerates should be very high.

If your GPU in those condistions is under utilized and the FPS aren't as high as you would hope...it means your CPU is holding back your graphics card and you would get higher FPS with a new CPU.
