Laptop overheats when playing BF4 for a while

After I have been playing for 3 hours my computer just goes into sleep/hibernate mode which is really weird. It takes a minute or two for me to power the laptop on again. I'm guessing this is overheating. I have never had this problem with any other game (bf4 cod black ops 2...) and my computer has never done this before. Also my laptop is in an open area.

Help would be appreciated as this problem happened quite a number of times :P

Make sure it's on a flat hard surface, if you can manually control the fan do it. make sure there is sufficient room for air flow into the fan when gaming

Drop the settings (less works = less heat) and get a laptop cooling pad.

Make sure Vsync is on if you normally get over 60FPS so that the laptop isn't doing any extra work it doesn't need to.

Then blow all the dust out of the fan/vent with a can of compressed air. If you feel up to the task you can take it apart (On some laptops the heatsink and everything is accessible by a panel on the bottom) and clean all the dust out and replace the thermal paste.

Such is life when gaming on inadequately cooled machines.

As other guys have mentioned, get a cooling pad and if you have the skill for it, pull apart the HS/F and clear out any crap built up.

Thanks for the responses guys! It is on a flat hard surface and my settings are already 720p medium9(50-70 FPS) so the game would look like garbage if I go even lower than that. I will try cleaning the fan/vent and see if that does nothing. I guess il have to get a cooling pad for just this one game if all else fails :P. If you have any suggestions for a cooling pad that would be appreciated.

The larger ones by Cooler Master are pretty good. I'll try to find a pretty decent one.

That was the one I was gonna try and find on NewEgg... So yeah. It's pretty good. Just my netbook is throttling since I'm using it in bed, on my chair, and it's getting toasty and slow.

That's the one I have. It cools pretty nice but it's also louder than I would like.

@MrTickle

You said you think that it's overheating,have you used any program to check the temps while gaming?

If not install MSI Afterburner and use the OSD to monitor temps in-game.

http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

Wouldn't want you to buy it only to find out that the heat isn't causing your problems.

My laptop runs at 90 C at idle...it automaticaly shuts down at 110. <- I can get that temp from just watching videos.
