Extend 3 pin A-RGB with 4 pin extender

Hello I bought three Cooler Master MF140R A-RGB fans. I have Asus Crosshair VI which has two a rgb headers but they are far from each other.

Currently these fans are mounted on top of the case. I want to connect the three to one of the a rgb header.

For that I need a splitter. I found one but it is for RGB - Cooler Master 1-to-3, 4-pin, 12V.

It is not for argb.

Is it okay to use this one.? I will plug in the 3 pin argb header and one lane will never be used anyway.

But I'm not sure.

 

 

4 pin is for 12V while 3 pin is for 5V.

Can use only 3 of the four wires?

 

I will bend or cut third pins of these four exdenders which are included.

The wiring for both type of connector is the same except the 3rd pin on A-RGB is NC (empty).

So long as the pinout is the same on each end, it will work. You might have to deal with the extra pin somehow.

Cooler Master does offer a addressable RGB splitter, may be you should check that out.

Yes you can use regular 4 pin extensions even for addressable RGB LED's splitting them will just mirror the lighting effects down the branches. If you plan to run lots of addressable LED's you will require a power splitter like theses:

I'm aware of CoolerMaster a-rgb splitter. It is perfect but it is not available in my country. If I order from abroad it will be very expensive and slow.

The 4 pin one is way cheaper and available.

 

The only Addr Rgbs I will use are the three fans I mentioned above. For future ones I'll use the other a-rgb header on the mobo.

 

I have normal rgb strips but they are connected to the rgb hub on my Dark Base Pro 900 case. Too sad there are no Argb headers on it .

Yes the 4 pin version should still work the same as the addressable version which has an extra leg for different variations of the addressable header between motherboard manufactures.

Cooler Master sells a A-RGB version of their 3-in-1 4-pin RGB splitter cable.

Note, the 3-pin one has a different header for Gigabyte and ASUS/MSi/AsRock boards.

I personally have the 4-pin version of the splitter for my RGB strips and Phanteks case -- works wonderful.
