  1. A few days ago, January 22, Cities Skylines received an update which sparked a major fan revolt. It goes beyond just gamers being angry, the publisher may have violated the EU's GDPR and based on evidence I've seen they are also violating Steam's TOS by manipulating the game's review score. Let me give you some background so you'll understand what the hubbub is all about. As you know, Cities Skylines took the mantle of premier city builder in the wake of the Sim City debacle. The issues with Sim City is that it had to be always online, you had to sign in to play the game. EA would later fix this, sort of, but the damage had already been done. Cities Skylines was announced at Gamescom 2014 and rest was history, until now. Many people who play Cities Skylines today and who maintain the game's many and often essential mods were all Sim City refugees, so what's happened with the game recently now feels like a major betrayal of trust. How the publisher has responded to the fan backlash makes the situation much worse. On the 22nd, Cities Skylines received an update which added a Paradox Interactive launcher. When you launch the game there is no indication that the EULA for the game has changed and there are no warning dialog boxes. Due to how the game works, Cities Skylines can sometimes take 10 minutes to launch even on an M.2 NVMe SSD if several DLC and mods are installed. The launcher adds up to an additional 10 minutes to the launch time. The launcher requires a sign in to play the game. Many players have experienced a drop in CPU performance with the launcher running and others have reported the it is also eating up system memory. Other more technically minded players have found that the launcher is dialing home and send telemetry data some remote server which may include personal information (this requires deeper investigation). The launcher has rendered the native Mac and Linux versions of the game unplayable, and it was installed outside of the Steam game directory under the USER DATA area instead. All of this without any warning or fanfare other than a post in the Steam community forums that says "We're doing this, don't riot". Some antivirus programs detect the Paradox launcher as malware. Where do things stand now? Paradox has only recently responded to the controversy and they haven't taken it very well. To add insult to injury, the game and all of its DLC was put on a steep sale. It doesn't end there, one employee called fans "SJWs who hate change" on the Steam forums. The post has since been deleted, but the Streisand Effect is alive and well. Hundreds of fans of the game have been uninstalling Cities Skylines and changed their reviews on Steam to "not recommended". This influx of negative reviews changed the game's review score from "Mostly Positive" to "Mixed". There has now been an influx of reviews with thumbs up recommendations made by Steam users with simple throwaway account names and the texts are between one to three words each. There is even one review that is just the letter "h" and that's it. All of these positive reviews came in the same day and the users have barely any playtime accumulated. So many of these strange reviews have come in that it has shifted the game's review score back to "Mostly Positive". This is clearly review tampering and a major breach of Steam's TOS which is punishable with exile from the platform. These suspect reviews have been reported to Steam in mass. That is where things stand. The fans are waving their torches and pitchforks and Paradox is acting like a thin-skinned asset flipper. They may have done some things that violate both the GDPR and (potentially) COPPA, and may have certainly committed a bannable offense on Steam. Does anyone have any marshmallows I can roast over this dumpster fire?
  2. So ive been considering getting rid of the ghostery extension. Ive got adguard with easyprivacy and the anti spyware filter on top of Firefox's anti tracking settings. i was just wondering if there was any point to ghostery with those other options enabled
  3. Hi everyone, I have an attorney client whose email address was used to contact a customer asking for a wire transfer for a large sum of money. The attorney didn't send it, but rather a malicious person did. My first thought was that some spyware picked up his email credentials and the malicious user combed through his contacts for a target. Also it's a possibility someone was shoulder surfing when he typed in his credentials and wrote down the info. If credentials and sensitive info were stored locally or on the server, maybe his network has been hacked. What would be your first thoughts, reactions, and steps taken in this scenario? Thank you.
  4. Hi! Today I did I virus scan with many AV and Anti-Malware and Hitman Pro detected svchost.exe suspicious.. it says that the location is C:/WINDOWS/system32 Size. 43.5 KB Product: Microsoft Windows Operating system Publisher: Microsoft Corporation Description: Host Process for Windows services Version: 10.0.14393.0 RSA Key Size: 2048 Service: WpnUserService_41a41 Process type: critical Scoring 24.0 Can't upload to virustotal! D: This is all after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update PS: I can't join my internet so I have to join my iPad Hotspot!?! Thanks!
  5. Quick Specs: - Windows 8.1 Pro N x64 - Mini-Optiplex 7010 (with 12gig RAM, stock CPU [Core i5 3470K @3.2GHz] 1TB HDD and an Radeon 5670HD 2GB graphics card.) While google is the best resource, I have yet to find something concrete to an issue i've been having. Its invaded my Web-browser now its even in my Steam. (See Screenshot-1) When first detected, I cleaned with Glary, checked my extensions in Chrome, then checked my installed programs. I found NOTHING. (can screen shot program lists upon request) So instinctively, I went into my Program Files and Program Files x86 to look through individual folders as well in my Temp Folder, Appdata and program Data, Found nothing. (Again can screenshot on request) I've grabbed Malwarebytes and ran a scan last night and found a registry entry was discovered, which I quarantined and deleted immediately. I'm doin another scan now and will grab Kasperky's Virus Removal Tool (and yes, i'm scanning for rootkits) and so far, nothing is coming up. What in the world do I do now?
  6. Step 1: make sure you have win7 pro (or win8.1 pro?) and not home-premium. If you have home-premium, then close your browser and cry yourself in a corner. (Or install Arch Linux instead, your choice.) (EDIT 10-Sep-2015: if you have home-premium (or a "core" version of win8...whatever that means), you might still be able to edit the registry to "suppress" the win10 offer; so if you do, skip all the way down to my post below for more details.) Step 2: make sure you have (mostly) all the security/important windows updates installed, especially the newest "WU client" update (like this one). "Optional" updates can be left alone. Step 3: make sure you're logged into Windows as an administrator and open up the local group policy editor, easiest way to do it is type "gpedit.msc" in the start menu text box like so: ...and hit enter. (Don't ask me how to find it in Win 8.1 without the start menu because I have no idea, just "search" for "group policy" and it should be the first result.) Step 4: now in the local group policy editor, navigate to the following: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update Step 5: now in this folder double click "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update" and then click "enabled" then hit ok. Final result should look like this: Close the editor and now Windows will "never detect, download, or install an upgrade to the latest version of Windows" (aka win10+.) Source KB article. Have a nice day
  7. Hi guys,I am new one here First to say i want to say sorry for my English. Ok here we go..I started getting bsod of Ntkrnpla.exe.Pc just freezes and I get bsod. That is probably Happening when I am playing Cs go or pc is under some tasks. Now I will write you what I tried:Hotfix,Ccleaner,mentest+(13 passes),hitman pro,hd tune, furmark,hd sentiel, reseting windows 7,MBW and now i will try RogueKille And AdwCleaner.Nothing out of this worked. Thank you, have a nice rest of day(night).
  8. Recently (today), I have received a message from chrome saying somebody is watching my yahoo historic, and then were informing me it was a possible hacker. I know it's probably not one, but I can conclude my school is checking our historic from distance when we are on their wifi. That's bad if I want to check things that are not allowed. So is there anyway to remove potential spyware from my pc, or to at least find them in order to destroy them? I am using the PC they give to each students, which probably means they installed something in my computer before giving it to us.
  9. Please be aware. if you installed it, please remove and i would say, format your PC. Source from reddit.

Once you click next after the scan has completed, it will ask for a product key, just click on “Activate Free license” to use a one-time license if prompted to. How to prevent future infections Be careful what you download and install. Keep programs like Java & Flash up-to-date, do this by using official websites or use Ninite. Unchecky can help you prevent accidental installations of adware & spyware during product installations. Make sure your Windows is kept up-to-date as well. Windows updates patches exploits and vulnerabilities in your operating system. Most infections are there because the user has unknowingly given them administrative rights to install and run. 11. I was wondering what program is best for anitmaleware purposes, Superantispyware or Malwarebytes I want to run the program on a windows server 2012 R2 and know that Superantispyware will work on the OS Also im wondering if using both is a better option, using them on demand and not on real time so that they dont consume to many resources. And if anyone knows what is the best or most recomended antivirus to use on Windows 2012 R2 please let me know :3
  12. Hello! I have this problem with my pc: it has tons and tons of spyware on it. I have tried numerous times to remove it with apps like: -SUPERAntiSpyware -MalwareBytes -ESET -Bitdefender So far all of them say I am good, exept for Super Anty Spyware, witch gives me 56 'Adware.Tracking Cookies' every time I do a scan (Even after removing them at the end of the scan) And so I click System Tools and Program Settings - System Investigator and check the box that says 'Scan results for spyware, malware, etc.' and start it. I remove alot of 'unsigned' files and a couple masivley down-voted files. I run the scan again and see only 2 PUPs. I delete them, run the scan again and I see the first green tick that it gave me. I get really exited, restart my pc, and run the scan again. What do I see? 56 PUPs that are, again, only picked up by Super Anty Spyware... (I don't know it this had something to do with it, but I was downloading some system updated in the background too...) So guys, please let me know how I get rid of this stuff, as I am quite scared of someone stealing my passwords...
  13. This post (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/455131-lenovo-caught-shipping-yet-another-spyware-app-on-computers/) shows that Lenovo have put spyware on their laptops, again. The article shows where the spyware is on the laptop. To remove this software , do I just have to delete the folders or will that do nothing?
  14. I wanted to see how the "New Horizons" mission was coming along and came across this download site from JPL. I'm a little spooked about files and Windows right now because of the recent Adobe scare and how they still need to patch their 0-day vulnerability (as of 8 July.) The recent outing that the FBI was a paying customer of Microsoft remote-monitoring spyware called "Galileo" is making me paranoid about using Windows in general, because they can still do whatever they want (Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?) and still call it the "Freedom Act" since it recently passed right? Is it time to just install FreeBSD over Windows and call it a day?
  15. Ok, so my friend has a hard drive that is now really slow, obviously because it's an hdd, but slower than usual. He has an insane amount of pop up ads and banners on chrome, and stuff will pop up even when browsers aren't open. I need something that will remove EVERYTHING that could be causing this. I told him to just wipe the drive, but he doesn't want to. and hes not that great with computers and stuff. ANy suggestions?
  16. Symantec just announced the discovery of Regin, a new kind of spyware that uses Stealth technology to hide itself and what it's doing on infected machines. So far it has been found on ISP servers, but appears to be targeting companies, governments, research facilities, etc. Apparently it's been active for a few years already. Considering the complexity of the thing, this is designed at great expense by a government. The question of course is which one. 17. This is my personal preference on removal or spyware and what I found to work the best. If you have a difference of opinion please keep it civil and don't post (while having a heartattack) to tell me how wrong I am. These are steps that I've done daily, for many years, while working in computer repair shops. These are also great steps for those of us that are more computer savvy, because the junk files still accumulate up on our computers even if were extra cautious. Step #1 - I prefer a clean boot into Windows NORMAL mode. You only need to boot into Safe Mode if there are things you want to avoid from opening at startup. Disable your anti virus to make sure no conflicts happen. Step #2 - Program time. I run a few different programs depending on what I need. They are all small programs and live on my flash drive. #0 RKill - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/ - Mainly optional. It runs real quick and kills processes. #1 AdwCleaner - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ - Run this, it's a pretty fast scan that will restart your computer. #2 Hitman Pro - http://www.surfright.nl/en/downloads - Choose the 32 or 64 bit option. I run this as the second scan, it finds most of the things were searching for. I always enter a fake email for the 30 day trial version. Normally in a shop, I won't need to use it again. #3 JRT - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/ - It's a basic command prompt tool, it's found things others have not and it made it's way into my tool kit. #4 TDSSKiller - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tdsskiller/ - Normal and quick rootkit scanner. #5 Combofix - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/ - This is my last scan. It normally finds the rest and all of it. It's the longest scan and will also sometimes restart your computer. After it's done, press Windows Key + R and type combofix /uninstall Not badly infected? Do just steps #1, 2 and run CCleaner Ad Block Plus! This is a great browser extension that stops a lot of the ads, etc that lead to malware. For Chrome > https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock-plus/cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb?hl=en-US For Fireox > https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ For Internet Explorer > http://www.google.com/chrome Just install chrome already... Step #3 - Malwarebytes & Kapersky Rescue Disc @ Stubborn infections This is a great step if you have a USB dock or able to hook up a drive as a secondary drive. Malwarebytes Anti Malware Thisis where Malwarebytes shines in my book. Program can be found here > http://www.malwarebytes.org Being one of the few programs able to scan a chosen drive makes Malwarebytes a go to program when a drive is way to infected to even get into Safe Mode on. By clicking "Perform Full Scan" it gives you the option to choose which drive. So if you have a drive hooked up as G: by usb, you can elect to scan only that drive. This scan does take a decent length of time, but it's worth the wait when you need access to the drive. Kapersky Rescue Disc This is another great program to have, and since it's a bootable enviroment, it's a great CD to have in your arsenal. ISO can be found here > http://support.kaspersky.com/us/viruses/rescuedisk This boots into a comfortable setting where you can scan the drive without having to boot into Windows. All you need to do is down the 500MB or so ISO and burn it to a CD. Simply press F12 or your designated Boot select key, and boot to the CD. Wait for it to boot into a friendly UI. Open up the program "Kaspersky Rescue Disc" on the Desktop and hit Scan Computer Step #4 - Clean up time. This is the fun part of removing junk programs, temp files and the such. CCleaner - https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner - Great basic file system cleaner. Removes the junk temp files. Revo Uninstaller - http://www.revouninstaller.com - Program uninstaller. Pretty self explanatory. PCDecrapifier - http://pcdecrapifier.com - Great and fast tool to remove trash programs. Honorable mentions: Autoruns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) is another great tool to check the system auto runs as the name mentions. Lets you see some goodies Please do read up on how to use it before going and clicking on stuff. Web of Trust (https://www.mywot.com) Recommended by brownninja97 - WOT is a browser extension based on a review system for bad websites that will give informed decisions about whether to trust a website D7 (http://www.foolishit.com/d7/) is an all in one Windows malware/tweak tool that I've used like 3 times but it's still cool. That's it. Nice and simple malware removal for the every day person. There really isn't much to the process, takes a whole 10 minutes, maybe more depending on the speed of the system and how much Combofix finds.
  18. Hi, today I updated my avira AV and after I updated it.. I did a scan with Hitman Pro 3.7.14 it detected these "suspicious threats" avipbb.sys avgntflt.sys I also reconnised that my PC is booting up slower than usual it has a black screen with a cursor and then after 10 seconds it boots to the log on screen. Should I delete thes? its found in System 32 drivers Thanks so much!
  19. Do I need a firewall in Windows 7? (I already have an antivirus and Malwarebytes).
  20. Found this video posted on my favourite conspiracy theory forum, ATS (Above Top Secret) In this 30 min video Dr. Katherine Albrecht discusses on the Pete Santillo show Windows 10 Malware and it's implications. She goes on to explain how Google and Gmail are equally evil and how we should stop using them. ATS thread: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread1081350/pg1 Dr. Katherine is a long time speaker of the RFID chip and it's implications. She also mentions how we are now being tracked through such devices such as the Fit Bit etc.
  21. I currently run MalwareBytes PRO + BitDefender 2013 on all my PCs currently, but my BitDefener license is expiring soon. I'm curious if I should cancel and get something else or if I should renew it. I'll be honest and say I am not the most careful person when browsing/downloading, I can spot obvious scams from a mile away, but what I am trying to say is that I am a lot more prone to viruses than someone who browses Facebook all day. I have an unlimited budget as long as it's not something extremely expensive, say over $200. I'm fine with paying $100 for MalwareBytes and Bitdefender together. I also have a pretty good system (3930k + 32GB RAM) that can handle pretty much anything I throw at it.

    Is DDU safe?

Hello there!, My name is Inuka and I am planning to buy a r9 380 for my build people have recommended me this software called DDU I have heard people have got viruses from Guru3D (website where you download it from) I am scared that I will get one and it will mess up my PC which I have spent time and effort into.. People have said it does not contain viruses and I believe them of course! but I need to double check because I am VERRRYYYY paranoid when it comes to malware/viruses or downloading anything of the internet. My antivirus: Avira antivirus FREE Malwarebytes FREE Thanks so much for your time and have an amazing day! PS: Alternatives to DDU will be GREATLY appreciated!
  23. I was going through the community standards. I honestly had no clue they were even there. But I read something strange: Also discussions regarding ways to avoid or block legitimately installed monitoring/tracking software or the like is also not allowed. When I see this I think of the windows 10 privacy issues. Blocking this isn't illegal (as far as I know I'm not a lawyer). It may void your warranty but so will every other thread on this website. Why do the LMG staff feel this is important? You bought your software and if there is any form of spyware legitimate or not you have the right to remove it. edit: I see your point... I feel like I'm in first grade when school started I had no fucking clue how apostrophes worked. later after writing some stuff I went home and googled it... facepalm.jpg
