Hey guys, So im currently looking at putting in an pcie ssd as the daily driver for my brothers gaming rig, with a SATA SSD (860 evo) for a dual Mac boot. But I'm having trouble deciding what to get and wanted to hear your thoughts. I started off set on the Intel 750 series. But for $319 for 400gb I thought I could do better. So I was scrolling through Amazon when I came across the OCZ RD400 512GB SSD for $302. To me that was a big deal, but I don't know a heap about OCZ, so I was wondering what would you put in your build. Just to note there will be three storage devices in this machine The pcie ssd for Windows, and apps The sata ssd for all Mac content and a mech hdd Seagate pipeline 2tb for mass storage.

Sup folks, I've got a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX case with a pre-installed badass 200mm fan in the front. Although I like the looks (looks like a frigging prop-plane about to take off), I was wondering how it would compare to a pair of 140's. They'll be intake with one 120mm exhaust out the back, one dual 120mm radiator (so 1 radiator with 2 120mm fans) set for push-exhaust out the top. 200mm VS 2×140mm.... FIGHT! Thanks in advance, Regards, TJ

In this comparison were gonna look at colours, since res and the refresh rate is the same. I know its generally known that VA are better at colours when compared to TN, but at the same time its generally known that more expensive TN panels are up there with the VA's. So whos more accurate? Tell me your thoughts below.

What monitor is better for the price. By better i mean by colour since everything else has the same specs (1440p,144hz) I dont mind the change in size, just what monitor has better color, and i could not care less about anything else. Dankeschon for helping out

So after some rumors and a lot of speculation, the Brazilian Congress issued a request in order to shutdown whatsapp for 48 hours, starting at 9pm Eastern tonight. WhatsApp being the MOST used application by something arround 93% of the brazilian population, "they put the internet on fire" as a lot of people say here in brazil. With the popularization of cheap smartphones and many cellphone carriers offering unlimited access to whatsapp with cheap prices per month, whatsapp became very, very quickly the Main communication tool in brazil, as well as a lot of corporations and small business use whatsapp as the main front door, on my job for exemple, about 90% of our costumers come from whatsapp. The reason behind this blocking are kind of being throwed around there, some say its because the police needs to investigate some pedophilia case, because of the encrypted nature of whatsapp, it is near impossible to track people and messages from it, others say that its because whatsapp its an "unregulated service" providing "unfair competition" for the cellphone carriers, i personally think that offering a better service doesn't imply unfair competition, but still, it is beyond my opinion. The fact is, twitter, and facebook are on Fire right now on brazil, people are all over the place talking about how it is bad, and how it is wrong, but for now, what i am going to do is sleep, knowing that tomorrow will be a easier day at my job since whatsapp is down, and i even don't use this thing. i always hated it since the start, i don't know how popular whatsapp is in the rest of the world or how many of you care, but there it is, gimme your opinions about this, bellow i leave a link for a more "trust worthy" news site so you guys can have your own opinion. source: http://techcrunch.com/2015/12/16/brazils-congress-has-shut-down-whatsapp-tonight-and-the-rest-of-the-social-web-could-be-next/?ncid=rss

As a sequel to the Can Linus ... !? Series (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2IF9ZPwgDM), this would be equivalent to "Can Linus differentiate TN from IPS???" in NCIX Tech Tips. It would be awesome if he made a video on LTT or Techquickie highlighting his capability to differentiate between TN and IPS panels. Scenario: 2 rounds of testing. 5 (or more) monitors based on either TN or IPS, placed in a line randomly. All Monitors are of the same size and resolution. Everything other than the display panel to be covered, like the bezels, back panel, i/o, stand, etc. Unlike every one-on-one showdown, the answer won't be "It depends, guys...". The choice will be ours; the verdict will be ours. We will be seeing TN and IPS side-by-side along with Linus, while he keeps telling us the key differences as he notices. EDIT : Sorry, my bad, IPS gains over TN in viewing angles. But this "showdown" (apparently) is all about the panel itself , it color reproduction, etc.

Aside from all the fan following, and game bundles, what are the true advantages of one over the other? AMD is cheaper, NVIDIA runs cooler, and consumes less power. Anything else? Thanks for your time.

Title says it all. I play a lot of showdown which is, for those who don't know, a browser based pokemon competitive battling simulator. Located here: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/ Personally, I like random singles and doubles battles best where you get random teams chosen from premade movesets, but I play some OU (overused) which is sort of like A-class for ranking pokemon. OU contains most competitively used pokemon and excludes really OP ones who go into Ubers which is one above OU. UU, underused, is below UU and there's also RU, rarely used, and I don't really know where that slides in because I don't play that far down. You can make teams which are really going to suck when you first get into it until you learn the mechanics which seem pretty much backwards from what you learned if you played the games. Here are some tips: Status effects are incredibly important. They have "hidden" effects which aren't really mentioned anywhere. Burn halves physical attack and paralyze quarters speed. A burn will render a physical sweeper close to useless. Remember that useless speed stat that made no difference in the games? Well, now it's pretty much the most important stat for 80% of pokemon. Higher speed moves first and with the number of OHKO (One Hit KOs) that happen it's a great thing to have Stat changes are something to be feared. Again, remember when in the games you would raise your attack with swords dance and be like so what? Each stat change is .5 (going up, downwards it's reciprocals) and thus incredibly powerful. If someone gets off a dragon dance to get 1.5x speed and attack and you have no counter they could easily take out half your team. These go up to 4x per stat or .25x for lowered stats. Something that looks useless probably has lots of meta usage. Klefki which is a ball of keys is one of the best status pokemon that can also put up barriers to halve physical and speciall attack damage. And counter dragon types which generally are physical sweepers A sweeper is something with high (phys/spec) attack and, usually, high speed. Priority brackets beat speed. Any moves in priority +6 will for sure go before +5 etc. etc. by default moves have 0 priority, but moves like quick attack go first Super effective does 2x damage. This can stack if double super effective. Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) is 1.2x. critical hit does 1.5x and ignores positive stat changes for defense. you can use /dt <pokemon/move/item> for a data blurb about them. /weak <pokemon/type> will show weaknesses/resistances. use an ! instead of / if you want the message to be broadcast to the opponent too If anyone wants to play, I'm happy to and usually free. I use the same username as on here and try to keep it open so that anyone can challenge me, just tell me you're from LTT Forum if you do, nice to know this thread is getting some love. If I respond I'm on and if not, AFK or offline. Oh, btw, challenging can be done by searching by username, but I stay in lobby so you can open that chatroom (on the right) and ctrl+f "Ryoutarou97," click the name, and challenge or chat.

Hello, Today I was wondering what all the fuss was about the R9 280x and was thinking the GTX 960 was an obvious choice. But I noticed there were simply TOO MANY people saying the R9 280x was better. So I decided to hit up GPUBoss, a website that compares the specifications of 2 different GPUs and tells you what the pros/cons are. This is my GPUBoss link: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/MSI-Radeon-R9-280X-vs-EVGA-GeForce-GTX-960 I chose the best GTX 960 and the best R9 280X I could fine, with reasonable choices of course (price, overall specs) My choice for the Nvidia GPU I picked the EVGA GTX 960 SuperSc ACX 2.0+ 2Gb GDDR5 My choice for the AMD GPU was the MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming 3Gb GDDR5 Both these GPUs are fairly good and can probably perform at above fps on average on most games at 1080p. After watching many benchmark videos, I have seen that some R9 280x's were faster than others, and when looking at comparisons between the R9 280x and the GTX 960 are that the 960 DOES come out on top 90% of the time. My points are: The GTX 960 is cheaper, overall has higher performance and a lower power draw. The GTX 960 can achieve higher clock speeds The GTX 960 (even though it has 2 Gigabytes of Memory) can beat the R9 280x on the same games on Ultra. The 3Gb of the 280X won't always come in handy. If you watch this video: You will see the R9 280x comes out on top in a most benchmarks, HOWEVER, if you notice that Call of Duty Advanced Warfare has faster performance on the GTX 960

Harrynowl's ULTIMATE CPU Showdown! (WIP) So... here it comes at long last. As a follow up from this thread from a while ago I've made this thread. Here's my ULTIMATE showdown between 10 (and counting) CPUs from different price points, ages, sockets, core counts, clock speeds and more! This showdown has taken about a month of preparation, testing and planning in my spare time, I've finally gotten the hardware together and made the time to do it. I've done a lot of research into the benchmarks I'd like to run, I don't want to run hundreds as it is very time consuming, I'm sure @Slick could back me up on this one. However I am open to a couple of suggestions. Now the project isn't finished. I still have all the results to graph over the next week or so. I'd just like to let people know what I'm up to and that I'm doing the project I set out to do. Right now you could consider this a journal until complete. This is a project I'd like to add to expand with future CPUs where possible. Please follow the thread to be notified of updates! Contending CPUs I've chosen CPUs mostly from my in-house selection, I've chosen ones that represent different points in time since 2004 and the technological advancements. I'll be running the CPUs overclocked and I'll state the OC below. Intel: Pentium 4 HT 631 @4.2GHz Pentium Dual Core E2180 @3GHz Core2Duo E6600 @ 3.7GHz Core2Duo E8400 @ 4.4GHz Core2Quad Q9650 @4.1GHz G3258 @4.7GHz i5 4690K @4.7GHz AMD: FX4300 @4.7GHz FX6300 @4.5GHz FX8320 @4.3GHz Test hardware/standard test benches: Windows 7 x64 Catalyst 14.12 ‘Omega’ Radeon HD7950 @ 1100MHz/1400MHz 8GB DDR3 @1866MHz OR 4GB DDR2 @1066MHz Nepton 280L CX600M AM3(+): M5A97 EVO R2.0 LGA775: ASUS P5Q “Green” LGA1150: Z97I-Plus Benchmark Suite CPU Benchmarks: Cinebench 11.5 Cinebench R15 AIDA64 CPU SuperPi 1M SuperPi 32M MaxxMEM 2.0 PI/Linpac Multicore WinRAR Synthetic GPU benchmarks: Cinebench R15 OpenCL Valley Benchmark ExtremeHD 3D Mark FireStrike Synthetic Game benchmarks: Final Fantasy: World Reborn Benchmark Resident Evil 6 Benchmark Sniper Elite V2 Benchmark Lost Planet 2 Benchmark Tom Clancy HAWX2 Benchmark Dirt 3 Benchmark CS:S Benchmark Real Game benchmarks: Battlefield 3 (64P, small map) Battlefield 4 (64P, siege) Medieval 2: Total War (Load Saved Battle) I'll try add more. Gaming benchmarks not likely to happen. I don't have the time to dedicate anymore and I had to sell off some of my hardware to pay for things like a car. I'll run all the benchmarks at the highest preset and standard resolution is 1080p. When the project is complete I'll add a ZIP with all my screenshots, tables, graphs etc.
