Budget (including currency): Base amount $400 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming with VR such as Skyrim VR with mods, Demeo, and other adventure rpg games. Considering Index, Reverb G2, Vive Pro 2 will not consider oculus. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Motherboard Gigabyte Technology - Model #: GA-970A-D3 Socket: AM3+ Processor AMD FX(tm)-8120 8 Core 3.1 GHz Ram 6Gb ram GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 - total memory = 8Gb, VRAM = 6Gb So to give a little more on context why I say base $400 on the amount $400 is what we were looking at spending on a VR headset but from what I can tell the only headset that would work with that is the oculus quest 2. Like I stated before I will not consider oculus I hate facebook and they have enough data anyways they don't need more. Anyways with all the other VR headsets the only thing with my system that wouldn't meet minimum requirements was the CPU not having hyperthreading was about the only thing I haven't been able to confirm and the reason my hardware is so hold other than the graphics card was that a buddy gave me his old equipment because I wasn't doing anything really demanding and was better than an old all-in-one I had and wanted to replace. Now that I wanted to look at VR I'm starting to wonder if I should start all over and replace everything. If I have to change out much more than the CPU I might as well consider a near full rebuild. The VR headsets I'm considering are the Vavle Index Kit, HTC VIVE Pro 2 Full Kit, or HP Reverb G2 for a more budget friendly build. 1 other VR headset I'm considering but because of cost makes me think I'll need to do a full rebuild and that is the Vajo Aero. I haven't done any research on the requirements for this headset but have found out its a large $2000 USD don't know if its just the headset, kit, or headset and controllers just came across it to night was going to research it more tomorrow see what I could find. Anyways would appreciate suggestions Thanks.

I have wanted to get into VR for a while now and I finally have the ability to do it. However I face a dilemma which I would love some help on to solve. TL;DR - I’m looking for VR headset recommendations that would be mostly used while wired to my PC. Alongside a few other recommendations for VR use. For background I have a pretty beefy rig, 3700x on a 360AIO with a EVGA 3080 XC3 supported by 32GB of some 3200mhz RAM, and so I’m not really sure I care too much about a headset that could run the game for me (like the Quest 2) as I would probably want to run it plugged in anyway for the higher graphics and (maybe) frame rate. Also I don’t have a very huge space, it’s a dorm room at Uni and otherwise a still fairly small room for the summer, so if that might matter for sensors or headsets that would also be a consideration. Right now I see a few options, but I don’t know a ton about some of them. The index is clearly the “best” but it has a HEFTY price tag that I really would rather not pay (I mean seriously 1000$ bucks valve, dang). There is Oculus Quest 2 from Facebook (Meta?) and from what I can tell it would appear to be the best value, but maybe not the best performance. Also I would probably have to fork over a bit extra on top of the 299$ (Or 399$ if the 256GB model is worth the upgrade) to get me a nice USB-C cable to go along with it (see below). I know HTC has the Vive but I’m not really sure where it falls into line in terms of specs for the screens/lenses. So that may be something I would like to hear some first hand experience on the differences between those headsets. Headphones/Microphone - currently I have a pair of HD560s (plugged into a iFi Zen DAC ) as my daily driver cans along with a Condenser mic going into a Scarlett 2i2. I wanted to know if there was any built in sound/mic in any of the headsets and if not, or if the quality of one/both is quite poor, I assume a in-line microphone of some variety would likely be a reasonable solution? USB-C cable - Any recommendation is recommended hear for the VR headsets if applicable, I know Oculus has their own first party cable but it seems really pricey considering the length. I would probably prefer something on the longer side (2+ meters easily) just to be safe, as worst case I can always wrap it up if it’s too long. Any other noteworthy information is always welcome or if I forgot to mention something that you think is important here, please feel free to tell me.

I dunno if Peripherals is the correct subforum to post this under, but I searched and saw other VR posts here, so if this is the wrong place, let me know. The company one of my family members work for has bought 5 Oculus Quest 2's that they want to use for community events and online meetups, I suppose. However, it appears that they have no clue how to actually get them set up and didn't know about the facebook account requirement before purchasing them. They thought they'd just be able to make one account and share it across all the headsets, but it seems they wouldn't be able to play online with each other if they do that. I've been told there's a more business oriented version of the headsets you can buy, but that doesn't really help because they've already purchased 5 regular consumer model quest 2's. I guess what I'm really asking is what the best way to go about setting up these headsets would be. Do they just have to make 5 facebook accounts to tie to each of the headsets so they can play together? Is there any risk of those accounts getting banned and bricking the headset since there's no actual person tied to them? Any help or info would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi! Trying to play VR on my laptop (XPS 9500) It's specs are theoretically fine however when in game there is hideous display and input lag. I've been prompted by steamVR to switch to direct display mode however clicking that button does nothing. Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

Hi guys, long time viewer and first time poster here! apparently I had posted here before and didn't remember! With the advent of Windows 11 not supporting my hardware, and me not interested in building a new machine in a scalper market, I've made the full switch to Pop OS. I do a lot of my work on Linux / Mac OS, so I was already familiar with the platform and some of its quirks and features, so it wasn't really that big of a deal for me to switch. I've tried a handful of different distros, and I dual-booted Win10 + Pop OS for a few months until I realized I no longer booted on windows for anything. The final nail in the coffin was when I wanted to play a multiplayer game that was installed on the windows partition, I had it crash 6 times in a row because Windows was updating in the background after not being turned on for some time (even though I manually disabled EVERYTHING I could, even using the powershell to do so). I have had no issue playing any of my steam games using the Proton compatibility layer, and the most I need to do is change the default version from experimental to 5.13 for some older titles. Now, I was considering getting a used VR headset to tinker with on Linux, and when I started looking around I was surprised with how little information there is available in an easy to consume format. I was able to figure out that the Oculus headsets are not supported, and that the best bet would be a Valve Index or any model of HTC Vive headset, but at this point I am 100% not sure whether it would even work for me or not. Since I no longer own a windows machine, if it turns out to not work on Linux it will be a waste of time and money. I was wondering if the LTT community would be able to help me figure out what my options are, and I thought it would be a very interesting topic for a video if Anthony went over the state of VR gaming on Linux, or the weird workarounds required to make it work.

Hi I would appreciate your feedback before buying Budget: 2000 € (willing to go up to 2500 €) Location: Germany Aim: I want to use the latest VR hardware for gaming Monitors: Varjo Aero VR Headset (2880 x 2720 per eye, 90Hz | System Requirements: https://varjo.com/varjo-ready-computers-for-aero/) & Predator 34X (3440 x 1440, 100Hz) Peripherals: Not needed. I'll use my old stuff. Here is the part list I put together: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/q2W4qm - I am using my old case & fans - I need a lot of USB connectors because of VR (Headset + 3 Trackers, maybe more trackers in the future) - I chose parts without paying too much attention to aesthetics except when choosing the RTX 3070 Ti. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to help me out Edit: I was considering paying 50 € more to use water cooling (ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420) for the Ryzen 7 5800X but I didn't see the need for it in the end.

So I'd like to get a PC. I currently have a decent laptop (I7-7700hq, 1050 Mobile, 16gb of ram, 1 tb hdd and 250gb sdd). It's good enough, however it has major cooling problems, as I'm kind of putting it through torture. It was meant as a powerful Notebook, and I put it through the most intense of games and programs. Now, I know this isn't really the best time to get a PC because of the Chip shortage, but my Laptop is both literally and figuratively falling apart. Budget (including currency): My budget is 1000 USD (Or about 6000 RON), excluding peripherals, OS and other stuff. So 1000 USD for the computer itself. Country: Romania. For those who don't know, that's eastern european. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I'll mostly use it for editing (DaVinci Resolve), playing games (Non-Vr, but I would like to play PC VR games as well), and recording stuff while playing. I don't edit in crazy high resolutions. Just 1920x1080 at 60 fps. I'm not expecting crazy high FPS. If I get 60 fps in almost all current games I'll be more than happy. I can stomach VR at 60 fps as well. I've actually tried PC VR on my laptop at 10 fps, so 60 would be more than good. I'm also not recording at crazy high FPS or resolutions. Just 1920x1080 at 60 fps. I currently have to do 24 FPS at 720p because my laptop can't take it. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'll be using 1 monitor at 1920x1080, most likely at 60hz, but I am planning to get another 1 in the future (Or maybe another 2?) I hope I'll be buying it in about a month or 2, but who knows, it might take more. I do also need a USB 3.2 gen 2 on the PC for use with the Oculus Quest. No, I don't want a pre-built. I'd like the experience of building a PC yourself. Also, I know the GPU costs quite a lot there, however I have found it cheaper in my country. I added it on PC Part Picker so I'd know how much Watts it needs. Speaking of watts, I know the Power Supply is quite overkill, but I'd like to upgrade the GPU after the shortage is resolve. If it ever gets resolved. Link to the PC on PC Part Picker (Screenshot will also be available below): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tRGyvf Edit: Multiple people have told me about the 1660 (and 1660 super), so I will try and get that instead of the 1050 TI. Also, apparently this case has terrible airflow. That'll also be changed.

Every game I play I get ping anywhere between 200-500. I'm connected to the right internet and everything. I have Telus Fibre so I have pretty good internet. I don't have a router in my room so maybe getting one might help?

So basically, I try to start the oculus software and what happens is when I plug my oculus quest 2 in, the app gives me a spinning wheel indefinitely. It recently started doing this for whatever reason. I have tried to revo uninstall it and then reinstall to no avail. I have changed no default settings within the installation. I have however got it to work on my PC when I installed it on my drive with the Windows 11 preview making me believe it is something to do with my Windows 10. I have 21H1 Pro Edition. I have attempted to look for solutions on the internet to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I recently bought a new PC and it works great in all fields besides the exact one I bought it for, that being VR. Depending on the USB's I use, I experienced grey screen 'tracking' issues pretty much constantly (was never able to get through even a single song in Beat Saber without it happening multiple times). and it get's worse when using the green usb slots. The headset worked perfectly fine on my last pc, but not on this one, dispite this being an upgrade. After going through a long, arduous troubleshooting process, I got an RMA from Valve and was sent a new HMD. A quick list of the things I tried (which didn't improve the symptoms at all) is below: Making sure system was completely up to date Disabling Windows Defender Firewall Disabling USB power management (through Steam Developer Options and manually through Windows Control Panel) Repositioning base stations (they were temporarily below head level during setup, and then were mounted to the wall about 8 feet from the floor in my apartment which has a standard height ceiling). Switching the locations of each base station Recalibrating the room Switching to every available USB port Running in safe mode Checking over all connections on trident, breakaway, HMD Covering all reflective surfaces in the area (TVs, counters, windows, picture frames, any items with metallic/glossy surfaces, whiteboards, etc.) Turning off all electronic devices (wireless router, modem, additional computers, cell phones, tablets, video game consoles, microwave, all devices that use bluetooth such as headphones) Removing batteries from all remotes Turning off all lights The new headset has the exact same issues. I have no idea what to do and valve's support is useless, their suggestions are about as good as "turn it off and on again" so I'm desperately searching for SOMETHING SOMEWHERE that SOMEONE can tell me, please. I saw people with similar problems and they used this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B6ZCNGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to fix it but I don't see a slot on my mother board where that will fit so I have no idea what to do. CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor MOBO: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B550M-A AC Rev X.0x RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x8GB) GPU: (MSI) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB PSU: 800W 80+ Gold

I've recently bought an Oculus Quest 2, and while it's fine for playing games on the Quest itself, as soon as I try to play games on my PC it crashes and I get booted back into the Quest's main menu. The games I've tried so far that have crashed are ViveCraft and Roblox VR. I have changed the CPU priority for 'OVRServer_x64' and have tried both High and Realtime. I am running on Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19042 Build 19042) 64-bit My Specs are: Gigabyte GTX 1660 Super OC Gaming - 6GB VRAM AMD Ryzen 5 3600X MSI B450M Mortar Max Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3600MHz ThermalTake Smart SE 630W My BIOS version is MSI Clickbios 4 (In System Information it says 'American Megatrends Inc. 2.70, 21/04/2020) When crashing, I have the Oculus Software open and SteamVR if the game needs SteamVR to run (even games that don't need SteamVR crash) I don't get any error messages I just get kicked from Oculus Link and my PC starts to lag a lot when I try to close the current game If you need any other information, then comment and I will provide ASAP Thanks!

I have had a rift s for a while and one day my dog got in the room and ate the cable, after buying a cable for double MSRP on eBay, it gave me the setup error "Sensors can't track headset". After trying every USB 3 port on my motherboard to no avail, I started trying many things including disabling power management in device manager, updating drivers, reinstalling the Oculus software, reseating all of the connectors on the cable, switching to beta, and buying a powered USB hub, none of which worked. my specs are ryzen 5 2600 rtx 2060 16 gb of ram b450m pro4 mobo Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the deal, I'm a gamer and vr developer, I need a powerful laptop I can bring around with me on the go but also can connect to an external GPU via Thunderbolt 3. I've used Razer in the past but they pretty much break (or battery's begin to inflate) exactly a year after purchasing (this has happened to 3 of our work laptops). I like their small portable form-factor though Then we switched to Alienware, which are pretty powerful but I haven't particularly liked their support and they're GINORMOUS, I can't fit it in a reasonably sized backpack. I don't want to carry around one of those ever again I wanted to try one of the Microsoft Surface products but it looks like none of them support thunderbolt 3 for external GPUs Just looking for a reasonable form factor, has a decent CPU & GPU, can plugin to an external GPU via TB3. Anyone else have a similar need to me and had a lot of success with a particular laptop/ brand?

So i got my index today and after mounting all the base stations and half an hour of updating the firmware for everything i noticed that only the left eye is displaying something so i restarted the headset, when steam vr booted up i saw an image on both eyes but after 2-3 seconds the right eye stopped displaying anything again, the led's are green and i couldnt find any errors in the debug logs of steam vr. Googling around a bit and i soon found the most likely suspect, the usb ports, so i tried every single usb port from 2.0 to 3.1 gen2 but all had the same problem so i reset my bios settings incase it was my oc that caused all this, nothing same problem. The headset firmware has also been reflashed without success and when looking into this issue further i found none having this problem on only one eye, having both display nothing seems relatively common. Has anyone here experienced this issue? I still have hope its not the headsets fault so i ordered a pcie usb expansion and will see if that fixes it in the meantime. My specs are as followed: Windows 10 20H2 Ryzen 5 3600 X470 Gaming Pro Carbon 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix @ 3800MHz AMD RX 6700 XT Everything is updated (Bios, Drivers...)

Hello, I came back from vacation to a Rift S with a broken cable (due to moving around a lot while playing) a month ago. I've been dealing with Oculus Support ever since, and they've sent a replacement model. I was excited for it to finally work again, but it just didn't (a new issue occured where I just saw static snow or 3 loading dots). I contacted them again, but nothing was working so I completely wiped my main drive and reinstalled Windows (as I got impatient and I've been wanting to do this anyways to speed up my PC). This ALSO didn't fix it. I'm honestly just extremely confused, and I really need help. We tested the USB 3.0 port and the DisplayPort with my brother's Valve Index, and it worked just fine, so it has to be a driver issue of some sort. We also tested my Rift S on my brother's PC, and it works perfectly fine there. Any help is appreciated. If no one knows how to fix it, I'll just sell it to get a Quest 2. (this was reposted from reddit because no one knew a solution there)

i5 11400f, Asus Prime z590p, 2x8GB DDR4, Rtx 3090 Gaming X Trio, Corsair RM 750 Extreme coil whine and freezing when ever I am playing an intensive vr game. I never had this problem before playing vr, I am using a cable linked quest 2. My guess is 750 is enough for non vr gaming as I never had any problems before that. I had a High Power (sketchy brand I know) 800W psu, but the coil whine was EXTREMELY loud. I figured upgrading to the RM750 even at a lower wattage would help. Still a bit of coil whine but not as bad. Like I sad, only in VR. When using GPUZ to look at the power everything is drawing, My Whole pc freezes and GPUZ says the pwr (Pwr Limit) is the cause as that it what it says is happening during the freeze. Could this be caused by a 3090 wattage spike? Any help appreciated, Thank you.

Hi, I've tried using a oculus development kit 2 for a school project on unity, but I can't get it to work on my machine. First of all this is the first time i've tried to set up a VR headset. First when I plugged it in the light was blinking orange and blue and the screen was black. So I installed all the packages in my unity project and the unity folder, now it isn't blinking and connecting/disconnecting all the time anymore. But when I try launching dreamdeck just to verify it works well I get a blue screen. My computer Asus ROG Flow x13 (2021): Ryzen 7 5800HS, 16Go, 1650 (Max-Q) (I know the graphics card is barely supported for VR) and I deactivated the energy saving to only use the Nvidia chip. I've tried to plug the headset directly into my computer and through my usb-c dock resulted in the same shenanigans. I know there was a probleme with ASUS motherboard and USB driver but a driver solves the problem and I sure hope that my drivers aren't from 2017 since my laptop is only 2 month old. Is my computer doomed ? Or is it just the DK2 that isn't supported anymore ? That was 1 week ago now I have access to a Vive Cosmos and it is far better no blue screen !! (Hurray) games kind of launched but there is nothing i shown in the headset, (I tried using a dell usb c hub since i don't have any HDMI to DP adapter). Can I use this laptop for VR ? Thanks for your help

facebook Facebook testing Ads in VR Oculus apps and Games
Master Delta Chief posted a topic in Tech News
Summary Facebook is starting to test ads in VR apps on the Oculus platform. Currently, it’s primarily going to be on the Quest, though is likely going to expand to the other devices. Facebook will expand their system based on the feedback of users, claiming that it’s aim is to create a “self-sustainable platform” for VR development. There are already ads on the Oculus mobile app since last month, but it’s limited to only Oculus data. Quote from Facebook Quote from The Verge A spokesperson from Facebook mentioned that the ad-system will use information from your Facebook profile as well as: My thoughts I once considered to buy a Oculus Quest as a means of gaining access to VR in a "cheap" way, however their actions in creating ads within VR apps as well as the requirement of a Facebook login (of which I’m certain there’s already a way to avoid that) makes me not want to get a Quest and just try to find a relatively cheap WMR headset. Though with that said, the "cheap" ones are unfortunately a bit rare where I live. I’ll be glad though if someone manages to make an adblock for those in VR. Budget (including currency): 700€ - 900€ Country: Germany Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Apex Legends, various other (newer) games, VR Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello, this is the my first time builing a pc. My plan was basically to make an entry-level/budget VR-pc. I will be getting a case from a friend of mine and i was going to use the stock CPU cooler (and maybe upgrade from that later). HDD, SSD and PSU will be used from my old PC. One question i explicitly would like to have answered is, whether i should go with the i5-10400, the i5-10400F or the RYZEN 5 3600. I considered all of them and just clicked on the cheapest option for the time being.

Sooo, I was playing vrchat last night and my audio kept cutting out and the only way to turn it back on was to unplug my USB cable and plug it back in then restart vrchat. After about 3 times I was kinda sick of this issue and I just used my Corsair headphones to continue playing the rest of the night. I am using a 10ft usb 3 extension cable for my headset with NO repeater and a 10ft HDMI extension cable with this repeater along with a male to male adapter. The reason why I am confused is this setup has never given me trouble before. The only thing I can think of is I just updated windows and the Nvidia drivers. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks!

Hey guys, been a while since i posted. My monitor has had a problem ever since I got it, the problem being that the bottom left corner was dead. It was only an area of a few pixels so I didn't mind really. Occasionally I would notice a flickering orange pixel in the very corner followed by the monitor abruptly turning off. This was a huge red flag, but I didn't want to spend money replacing or repairing the monitor since times have been tough during COVID. Fast forward to about an hour ago and suddenly the corner begins to spark, followed by the pixels around it starting to die and get stuck. The image started to flicker horizontally for about 20 minutes and then it completely died. It turns on, but it's only a mass of dead pixels in the corner and a black screen. I've tried looking up my problem but I can't find anything quite like it. I think the flickering orange dot in the corner is a shorted/sparking wire or pixel. I tried using VR to see my desktop, but then somehow my vive lost tracking. I go to turn off my PC, hit the power button, and it won't turn off. I had to hold the power button to get it to shut off. I know it may sound a bit daft, but i'm kind of worried my monitor may have fried something in my PC. Also worried that I corrupted something by forcing it to turn off. Gonna have to head to Micro Center when it opens and spend the money on a new monitor I guess. Any thoughts? Also attached is a video of the flickering horizontally. IMG_3077.MOV
