Summary Sony has officially announced a new piece of hardware named "Mocopi" through it's Japanese YouTube channel. Mocopi is a set of six small tracking tags that you attach on various parts of your body, one for your head, hips, both wrist and both ankles to allow you to experience full body tracking in a variety of applications in VR, AR and the Metaverse. Currently, they connect through Bluetooth to an Android or iOS device to provide motion data, services such as Unity are then able to take advantage of this to replicate full body tracking setup similar to that of the HTC Vive body trackers, although it's unclear at this time of the accuracy of the tracking in comparison to those used by HTC or other products, such as the Slime VR body trackers. They clearly are interested in supporting the use of these for "Anime" styled avatars, so I can imagine them being a shoe in for a go to VRChat / VTuber accessory for the diehards out there. The reported $360 USD price tag will put many off, especially those with a launch price Oculus Meta Quest 2, as the price eclipse the previously $300 64gb base model. I personally would love to try a demo, but it's unclear what Sony's plans are in relation to world wide availability, but given that they've only showcased this on their Japanese YouTube channel, it suggests it may be more difficult to get your hands on in the west. Hello, I am totally new to this, I have some questions about the doability of what i'm thinking, here's the plan: I have Augmented Reality Glasses. I have tubes (B0), (B1), (B2), (B3), (B4). These aren't still objects, can be moved (tubes). I have an object (A) that is still. (A) have alot of places where to connect the tubes, each connexion point labeled as (B0), (B1), (B2), (B3), (B4) What I want for example: Attach (B0) tube to (B0) connexion on object (A), two possible outcome: Well Connected / Not Properly Connected (error warning). I want these responses to depend on attaching the correct Tube to the correct Connection spot on (A). If you try to connect tube (B1) to the (B3) connexion on (A), the Augmented Reality Glasses would show you an ERROR warinig. I'm imagining this as having two exact fiducial markers, one on the tube itself and one above or under the connexion spot on (A). Attach you'ill find a sketch of what i'm thinking. If tube name and Fiducial doesn't match the same connexion name on (A) with another fiducial => Error Message. If it matches => OK Please be comprehensive that i'm totally new to this, maybe you will explain concepts that I will not understand in the first try. I hope my idea is clear. Snapchat reveals next gen AR glasses Summary Snapchat, the social media company, has revealed their new AR glasses. Previously making the "spectacles", which only had cameras in the sides of the lenses, that had failed. I guess the company said "let's try again but better this time". Powered by Qualcomm's XR1 processor the glasses will be using a touch pad on the side for navigation. The glasses will also have 2 RGB cameras, a microphone and 4 speakers. The microphone other than recording video can also be used to identify songs and voice commands. so you don’t need to just use the touchpad for navigation in the menus. Unfortunately there is a big gotcha. The battery only lasts 30 minutes between charges but for being so slim and doing so much it only makes sense. The new AR glasses will also come with a charging case that holds up to 4 full charges. Of course, To use the new spectacles you need to Snapchat account in order to use them but it only makes sense because it is a Snapchat product. Quotes My thoughts I love the concept of AR glasses but they don’t really last long on a single charge right now so I don’t really think that it’s worth it for the early adopters price. I say either wait for upcoming apples AR glasses that have been rumored for a while now or wait a few generations. Hello, I am need to assemble a table of vr and ar kits and their specs for consumer use (2018-). Are you aware of resources that have similar lists apart from wikipedia?

So I've had this idea, and wanted to just share and discuss. With tech that we've seen recently like Google Glass (lol) and smart watches (yes this was an idea that came from the just uploaded video), and in addition to this, Apple, and namely Google taking an interest in AR technologies; a wearable/smart glasses combo doesn't seem far off. So my idea, is based around AR Glasses, and a Watch or wristband or rings. The glasses would provide a HUD, but the main purpose would be displaying the watch's holographic interface, yes, exactly like the sci-fi hovering display, except only you can see it. This still keeps the privacy of a traditional phone, because only you can see your display, interactions can take place with swiping/gestures and typing would be on a projected keyboard including wrist tracking. This could be take care of by instead of the watch being any kind of standalone device, you wear two rings or wristbands that serve no purpose other than to provide tracking, acceleration and gyroscopic information, the data could be processed either in the glasses, or, solving the bulky glasses issue, you could still have a regular phone, but this whole get up is just accessories, much like VR is to video games. The more I type the more outlandish this gets, but, I wonder if anyone else has ever had a fleeting thought of something similar? TLDR - Google Glass (but better) with hand tracking rings/wristbands for that cool sci-fi holographic watch, but it still keeps your stuff private like a normal phone (and is more feasible with current tech).

Bose has just unveiled a $199 pair of AR sunglasses called "Frames". They are now available for preorder on their site here and will ship in January 2019. On Bose's website, it states that the sunglasses come in two different "timeless" styles, Rondo and Alto. Now let's get into its specs. The glasses themselves weigh just 45 grams according to TheVerge. You can find their article on Bose Frames here. A typical pair of sunglasses weighs around 30-35 grams so they are just a bit heavier than the sunglasses you have now. Inside of the Frames lies a lithium battery that's capable of 3.5 hours of playback and 12 hours on standby. They can be fully recharged in less than 2 hours. " The glasses contain no earbud or earcup. The glasses have an "ultra-small microphone" and multifunction button embedded on the right side of the glasses. The multifunction button is used for power, pairing, voice assistants (Siri, google assistant, etc.), Calls, and obviously play/pause and skip. Bose markets Frames as an "audio ar wearable". According to them, the glasses don't change what you see of add things to it. Instead, it can see where you are and where you're facing by a 9-axis motion sensor and the GPS on your phone. It uses that information to add a layer of audio that connects you to that place and time for "endless travel, learning, entertainment, gaming, and more." Could this mean a game where you visit certain places and collect something? I don't know I've never heard of a game like that *cough* *cough* audio pokemon go *cough* *cough*. Bose states that they are developing AR experiences. To conclude I want to say that this seems like a good idea but I don't understand why you need this, I just seems like a novelty item at this point but we'll wait and see. Maybe they will make an audio pokemon go like game. The way they market it is a bit misleading because AR usually refers to our eyes being augmented.

Hello! I'm looking to overkill my PC with watercooling so I'd like to know if anyone knows of a monoblock made specifically for the Z270-AR. If there isn't one for the motherboard, I'll just use a normal CPU block. Thanks!

Hey all! I was looking into getting a new motherboard, however my friend already ordered me one. The current one I'm using is the z170ar with a 6700k. I feel bad because the z270k looks like a... Less stellar overclocker. It's a gift, so I'll feel bad not using it of it's worse. Does anyone have experience with it? Which of the two are better?

I can personally attest to the quality, as I tried the blade at CES 2017, and at a few other events, It is definitely a step up from google glass, even though it is running the same software framework. Though the battery life is still quite small. Out of all the AR headsets I have tried (that I can talk about, and will be available in the next year or so), this is the one with the most appeal to the general consumer. Do you people think this could be the product that helps re-kickstart AR (after the google glass chaos).

Has anyone taken a look at Displaylink's Wireless VR yet? apparently it supports dual 4Kp60 displays and simultaneous USB 3 with less than 5ms latency. I don't know how I feel about a 60GHz radio strapped to my head though. http://www.displaylink.com/vr

HI! So I currently have a modest little build and it is as follows AMD FX-6300 (hyper 212 Evo of course) GTX 1060 6gb Some cheap Asus motherboard 12GB of Crucial Ram (bout to be 16) 650 watt modular power supply from EVGA And of course storage. I am really focused on the cpu and motherboard. I am looking to get into VR soon with the Dell visor or some of the other Microsoft based headsets and I know my little hot running 6300 won't do the trick. And I know I already have people angry that I am using a 1060 with an FX-6300. The reason that is like that is I was gifted the graphics card for my birthday. I just would like to be able to upgrade in the cheapest way possible. I know I will need an I5 but I am hoping that I could get an I5 from the 6th generation (quad core) so I could keep my DDR3 ram. I just want the cheapest way to be able to get into VR. Thanks guys, all suggestions are welcome!

This is not a news but rather a report on what developers have done so far with Apple's ARKit that will be available with iOS 11 this fall I know this is about a week old but every day there are new AR apps that honestly look pretty impressive This is pretty much a classic example of where Apple was never the first but undoubtedly the best. And to quote Craig Federighi, "iPhones and iPads became the largest AR platform, virtually overnight" Here are some of the hundreds of ARKit demo videos on YouTube (Under Spoiler tag, because it's quite a long list of videos) The tracking and the accurate detection is quite frankly mind blowing especially considering that none of these devices actually have any kind of dedicated hardware rather just making use of a single camera and some advanced ML ARKit will be available with iOS 11 this fall and you can get the public beta right now from Apple's website for free. ARKit is supported on devices with A9 chip and above To know more about ARKit click here Feel free to post any more cool demos you come across here in this thread

In this project, we explore how digital holography can be used to build novel near-eye displays for virtual and mixed (or augmented) reality. We experiment with true, phase-only holograms in which the image is formed by the interference of laser light. We address some of the known limitations of digital holograms and demonstrate how holography can add powerful, new features to near-eye displays: per-pixel focus control, vision correction, and unpresented combinations of form factor and field of view. Note that this Microsoft Research project is not necessarily indicative of any Microsoft product roadmap, but relates to basic research around holographic displays. this stuff has been on my mind ever since google glass was announced. As of now there are no standards to it, and having a bunch of different ar and vr devices from different vendors, is driving up cost, as well as compatibility issues for the consumer. What's with the asterisk? Well, Microsoft keeps calling this product a "mixed reality headset". “We’re also excited to share that Windows Mixed Reality experiences will light up on other devices over time, beyond desktop and Microsoft HoloLens. Our plan is to bring mixed reality content to the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, in 2018.” So, the product would probably launch alongside Project Scorpio, which is Microsoft's upcoming Xbox that will support native 4K rendering and HDR in 2016. Considering the kind of power that Project Scorpio is supposed to have, this means that Microsoft could probably build a headset comparable to the flagship VR headsets by HTC and Oculus and have them preform on par with those afore mentioned headset with high frame rates. They might not have to tone down the specs the way Sony did with PSVR with its single 60hrz 1080p pannel (I think that is the spec but don't quote me on it) However, the biggest question as with all of these products is the price. Hopefully Microsoft will be able to price the Xbox and the headset at a competitive price that is a little cheaper than the flagship pc headsets. I think that would be very interesting to see. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts about this. Was there a big point that I might have missed. Don't hesitate to reply.

The Asus Zenfone AR was announced at CES this year and I was wondering if anyone had any news as to what carriers the phone might show up on? I know Asus has their Zenpad Z8/10 tablets with Verizon and I was wondering if their kickass (spec-wise) phone will be hitting the red map? Google was not my friend in this search for information but if any of you lovely people know anything about it, let me know. Thanks in advance.
