Something to consider, the RX580 is hotter and I believe draws more power than a 1060.

Personally, I went with an MSI RX580 Armor Mk 2 (it's a bit more expensive for an RX580) since it has 8GB of VRAM, is overclocked out of the box, and allows me to get a FreeSync 144Hz 1080p monitor. Not that you can get the monitor, being a college student and all, but for future...it's cheaper than GSync monitors for NVIDIA cards.

That said, it doesn't matter much either way. I'd be reluctant to buy used - the seller could have broken it and had it refurbished, or could have overclocked the hell out of it in a poorly ventilated case until it thermal throttled 90% of its life. A 1060 or an RX580 would do well in 1080p gaming in general...above that and you'll have issues with either card. And yeah, as was mentioned, FFXV in Ultra settings is hard on most cards.

That might be false advertising on amazons part, from lenovos own specs it says this: 47-63hz

Let me boil it down in the most simple terms possible. The is a hidden trait within newer generation of cpu's called ipc (instructions per clock). Basically in lamens terms determines how many instructions cpu can process per cycle. Newer cpu have higher ipc, older cpu have lower ipc. The gigahertz on the cpu does not determine speed entirely. Kind of like getting a new 60hz monitor and having an having and old crt and saying the crt is better because it has over 150 hz. It just isn't that simple.

yeah, but compute core performance matters even more than VRAM/

They're not far from each other in overall gaming performance, the extra VRAM does help in a way but I can't really say how big is the performance difference in that game though.

Good evening LTT Forum, recently i have been getting into Final Fantasy 15 and ran into a major problem. At ultra settings at 1080p the game was asking for 6gb of video memory, and since i have a 970 which has 4ish gb of ram, made my pc crash. So i'm am considering buying a new gpu but collage has me really strapped for cash. Buying a 1070 new is way out of my league and getting a 1060 is barely scrapping over the vram requirement, so on newegg a RX 580 is at $239 new and on amazon a used EVGA black edition 1070 is at $309 but used. There is another thing to consider however, i play alot of console ports of jrpg's which generaly have poor optimization for amd cards (mainly the neptunia series). What are the pro and cons of each?

No. But to find out why takes some digging around which process is tying it up.

I tested the psu on a stable system with intel burn test it ran perfectly. I installed and EVGA supernova 500W into my computer, it was still unstable after to rounds of intel burn test. When i changed the system with the 860k with a a8-5500 it became stable. I installed the corsair psu into the ryzen build and it is still rock solid. It was cpu failure. The probable damage was when my h100i had an issue with the pump connector and was not running it might have fried the  860k.

i would just wait since you already have a ITX case. still though, i love mATX. the extra RAM, PCI and other features make it definitely worthwile!
also, doing a custom loop is a lot easier in mATX then it was in my previous ITX  only recuired minimal modding

Build number 2, but add G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory for $99.97 instead of the $59 for the 2x4 kit he has in their. Even if he already has 2x4 sticks now, it's the logical upgrade path that will make the most difference for the money saved on the processor. Also, switching the mobo to a Gigabyte B350 model might help with overclocking, both cpu and ram, as in my experience, Gigabytes tools are just so much simpler to work with, and have become very reliable. Have a blast!

Oh it is a huge difference, you see, The Witcher 3 is a funny game where some areas are very light on the CPU and some areas are extremely heavy (such as Novigrad), everything was fine until I reached Novigrad (the CPU started to run @100% across all 4 cores), after 4,5GHz OC the stuttering reduced greatly and I was able to play through this part "just fine" although it was still far from optimal. I had the combo for a very short while so I didn't do much more testing, but in Shadow of Mordor and Tomb Raider (2013) there was no bottleneck.

Besides, why would I lie? I just had first-hand experience with Athlon and FX-line chips paired with different GPUs (GTX 660, GTX 970, R9 290X) and I know how they perform.

can't say that's a new one, but its definitely not true as said above. Since you're suggesting an upgrade why don't you google some benchmarks of overclocked vs stock or something to back it up.

If you don't have anything to contribute other than tell him to upgrade which is not the topic, move on .

I think that your CPU is very overpowered compared to your GPU and that you should try to get an RX 470 4GB if you can save up for a little bit longer
