  1. i have my pc connected to the XLR inputs on my a90 and my turntable connected to a phono preamp which is then connected to the RCA inputs on the a90. probably any amp with 2 inputs and a switch for them will do
  2. ksc75 i actually liked them more than the hd6xx but they didnt fit my ears that well and the parts express headband probably wont work for me since i have a big head. but their sound is amazing for how cheap they are
  3. https://www.amazon.com/Samson-Handheld-Microphone-Recording-Podcasting/dp/B001R747SG/ samson q2u
  4. fun fact the lacquer disks which are cut on a lathe to make the original copy of vinyl records are apparently made by an old japanese guy in his garage. there used to be a manufacturing plant in the US that produces them as well but after it burned down the old japanese guy is the only source of them left. i wonder what would happen if they eventually retire but probably some other company will get formed to fill the market
  5. im not sure if this is right. while yeah its true about the amp noise that's also tested at a set input voltage. decreasing the input voltage will also lower the noise performance i think probably to a greater degree but I'm not certain. but given ive usually heard the opposite suggested. also most quality amps shouldnt have significant channel imbalance beyond very low volumes
  6. I heard from other people that if you set the volume too low in windows it compresses the dynamic range but if you set it too high it can clip. so they recommend setting it to 96%. i cant verify if this is true so take it as you will. also changing the volume on the applications i heard works the same as the windows volume so i just leave that at 100.
  7. i would vinyl is going to be obviously worse LUL but i have a turntable and vinyl records because i enjoy the "ritual" aspect
  8. as someone who bought 6 vinyl records and 0 CDs last year i guess im contributing to this
  9. if its not in the samsung app then probably theres no way. the android system itself doesnt know what volume something is playing at
  10. in my experience volume does affect the battery life significantly. it might depend on the earbud and how efficient the drivers are. I once wore my wf1000xm4 while sleeping listening at very low volume. It had around 30% battery when I woke up which was about 8 hours. At work I listen at a louder volume and it's pretty much dead at the end of the day at 5%. And it's less than 8 hours. Remember the power required doubles for every 3db increase. I was listening at maybe 65db at work and maybe 40db while i was sleeping so it was pulling around 128 times more power.
  11. a lot of this comes down to the amplifier. in older amplifiers there can be audible crosstalk but imo in most modern amps the crosstalk is inaudible. many modern SE amps have -90db crosstalk
  12. i cant think of a consumer dac that can do that. you probably need an audio interface/mixer. i see online you can do it on the analog side with a combining cable which is what you might have been talking about. idk if it significantly degrades the audio or not
  13. i didnt quite dislike HE1 as much as this guy but i agree overall. and im glad to see im not crazy lol. when i heard he1 and was disappointed I thought there was something wrong with my ears or something.
  14. I only had a brief amount of time with each transducer since there's usually a line. Also, some of them had offline playlists so I couldn't play my songs. So this is all just rough impressions. I'll start with the pictures. Audio technica ath-w2022 anniversary edition One of only 5 in the US according to the rep. I think it sounded great for a closed back headphone but many much cheaper open backs sound better to me. But its main selling point is probably the exclusivity and the hand-painted art on the cups. Sennheiser HE1 I'm not sure if I really need to introduce this headphone but it's probably one of if not the most expensive headphones in the world at around 59000 USD. The rep told us the base is made from the same marble that Michelangelo used for his sculptures which is cool. As for the sound, they sounded ok. Ok, it was probably the best tuned headphone I've heard. But it sounded surprisingly not stax/planar like to me. I guess a lot of people will say that means it has a more natural timbre and people has said to me that planar's detail is artificial. I don't really understand that statement since I think arguably all detail outside of frequency response is artificial and it's just your perception of the sound. But anyways I enjoy that detail artificial or not so that makes the HE1 not rank at the top of my list. And certainly, to me, it's not far and above better than all other headphones but other people including the ones in my demo group heavily disagree with me so take that as you will. Got my hd800 signed by axel grell. Not much else to be said lol. I guess maybe I'll talk a bit about the hd800. The widest soundstage on a headphone but imo overblown. It sounds maybe like a foot wider than other headphones not the back of an auditorium etc other people said about them to me. Also, there are some things I don't like about the soundstage. It sounds like all sounds are in the narrow band so less layered than other headphones' soundstage ime. There's some sibilance but thankfully I'm less sensitive to sibilance than most people. I'm also a basslet so I'm not disappointed in the amount of bass unlike some other people but it sounds a bit plasticky to me. It sort of reminds me of those hollow sticks we used to hit on the ground in elementary school called boomwhackers i believe. This might sound like I'm saying the hd800 is a bad headphone but not at all. The soundstage has a cool effect and its resolution punches above its weight but I guess the issue is its main strength (soundstage width) is not something I value a ton. Subtonic Storm Probably the most technical iem I've heard. The resolution, dynamics etc are stunning. I thought this is my new favorite iem but then I listen to u12t again and the tuning of the u12t is just too perfect for me. I also got to see a lot of well-known people in the community. I met crinacle and resolve and I saw Dr. Sean Olive, Jude, Steve Guttenburg, Zeos, dms, golden sound. Funny thing is I got a lyft share ride from the airport to my hotel and resolve was the other passenger. Some rough rankings for me probably not too accurate since they weren't demoed back to back but I tried my best headphones: bravura/aperio idk which one they had > susvara > old utopia > new utopia > he1 maybe > heddphone > x9000 > shangri la > caldera > clear mg > yamaha > ath-w2022 > bathys > d8000 > the new hifiman closed back > sundara closed iems: u12t > storm > maybe u18t > helios > anni maybe here > mest mk3 > diva maybe > tempest > meteor > s12 > cadenza > andro > qdc tiger > hifiman > trifecta
  15. havent had experience with them. there was another one thats the same concept from another company that im forgetting and some of my friends liked that one.
  16. i personally like foam tips. maybe something like a comply t500. you have to squish them up at the beginning but i find after a while they soften up and are comfortable just putting them in. but if you want to stick to silicone i heard good things about spinfit and jvc spiral dots tips.
  17. you are probably looking at the sound profile or consistency graph. you need to scroll down more for the raw frequency response graph.
  18. yeah its not as straight forward as one is better. I have susvara which is arguably the best planar and utopia arguably the best dynamic though i have the order version. to me susvara is more detailed especially in the sense of speed and makes for a more impressive headphone imo. but other people say susvara has no dynamics and prefer the utopia. people also complain about the planar timbre of susvara though i guess utopia isnt perfect in that regard either with its metallic timbre
  19. if you are talking about regular youtube then it should be worse but youtube music should be around on par with spotify. and ofc as others said theres lossless music streaming services which offer the theoretical best quality. theres also other things like different masters so maybe the youtube version of the song has a master that you like better than the one on spotify
  20. ive tried the voce and was really underwhelmed. but I heard really good things about the x9000 and want to try them if they are there at canjam nyc
  21. it depends on how bad your onboard audio is but in my experience i got a 200 dollar dac and it didnt sound much better than my amp connected to my computer. so i usually recommend people to just get an amp for now or an amp with a dongle for the dac
  22. im traveling to nyc next month just so i can demo these LUL
  23. think of cables are audiophile jewelry. some people are willing to pay for better looking cables but as far as audio benefits its almost 0. the only exception is some sensitive iems can have their sound signature changed by cables with different impedances but even that isnt a matter of expensive cables or not you just need a cable with the right impedance
