CookieTheMonsta got a reaction from EnergyEclipse in Need help figuring out CPU!
@EnergyEclipse I listed that I have an SSD and everything from OS, to programmes and games that I play are on it, so I doubt it's connected to storage. And yes I know it means getting new motherboard and Ram, I'm prepared for that.

    @seoz thanks man
@Eastman51 I know Intel is more expensive, always has been, but I'm not that big of an heavy user that I would need high end CPU, hence me looking at i5 8500. I'm still not sure about ryzen, since I've been looking around and seen that it's worse in games. Does it really do that much better for programming and multitasking?

    Hey guys,

I am proud to announce Icemodz as a sponsor for the build!

I would like to thank them as they will kindly provide the custom sleeved cables

As for the current state of the build, both rads are now in the case and I have also modded a vandal switch for the power button on the front panel. That got rid of all the cable mess that was coming from the front panel connectors and it also looks really good in my opinion.

Those drilled holes are for something special going in the 5.25" bays

Thanks for checking it out. Stay tuned for more!

    Cheers,

CookieTheMonsta reacted to HCP in Bitfenix Pandora quick weekend modding - it went big...
Something like this....   Time to hit the sander and prep the panels for paint, or wrap. Haven´t decided yet wich way to go.   I dont like the waterblock for the 7950, but its the only i have that fits in this case, Pandora is only 16cm total width. I´ll have to look for a nice backplate, or make my own.     More problems.   Was planning on using the PrimoChill Ghost fitting, but that one on the GPU is too wide. The side panel is 100% tight against the GPU block, and that fitting is 2-3mm more.   Ghost fitting that´s too big down right. The two top ones is what i have to choose from. Maybe incorporate a metallic red theme... hmm   Or... use Ghost fittings all over, except for GPU where i use the black ones? (top left)       Here´s how it stands out.       This is how it looks trough the panel, pump got pretty nice positioned       I tested the Ghost fitting with side panel on, it doesnt bulge, and its not visible that the fitting is head on with the side panel window. That would be the best solution, i like the Ghost fittings.       Third day now, still stuck on how to route the acrylic tubing   Any suggestions ?   First routing idea. Pretty straight forward, one of the pipes has 5 bends in it. Not sure if i´ll pull that off       This one is more complex, where the inlet for the CPU goes BEHIND the GPU. And the other one just trough the GPU and down. Its really tight pulling anything in front of the GPU due to case width (only 160mm)     Bending testing goes well, the left one is done. Doing some testing with the right one, trying to run it paralell with the other.

    Quick notice...
The black PSU/Floor shroud is NOT the final finish.
Black paint is just a easy way to see scratches and other surface damages needed to be fixed

    Hey guys,

I'm proud to announce SIMPLE MODZ, a new Facebook page that I have just launched!

It is just a place for me to showcase my custom builds and interact with the community. There is not much there at the moment but I have quite a few nice projects upcoming this year and much more beyond that. If you enjoy my work, please have a look, pop by and say hi, maybe even like the page.

As for the build, not much has changed as for the moment I am waiting for a few things to arrive.

I do have part of the system in the case and it is running nicely on my desk. Air cooled for the moment. Also that GPU is in there temporarily, it's an ASUS 780 Poseidon Platinum. Really nice card but it would be too big for the build with the way I'm installing things with the 970 reference short pcb in mind, the Poseidon would be blocking the spot for the res.

Here is the top rad with the fans sleeved and mounted

A better look at the shroud outside the case and also how I install the acrylic piece for the motherboard tray

    That's it for now guys!

An exciting piece of equipment should be arriving this following week so stay tuned for that.

    Cheers,

CookieTheMonsta reacted to Cheddle in HDMI vs. VGA how much improvement?
I hope there is no difference, I am replacing one of the monitors on my triple screen racing sim rig tonight and the replacement is VGA only. so I will have one on HDMI, one on DVI and one on VGA - HDMI / DVI are identical in terms of visual quality.

Display port enables you to use monitors with very high resolutions and / or refresh rates. HDMI 1.4 / DVI can not do 4k at 60hz - HDMI 2.0 can do it however I have seen many corners cut with this tech with compromises on colour quality (chroma sub-sampling to be specific) and many TV's and monitors on the market run 4:2:0 chroma as opposed to 4:4:4 (what you want) - its not a huge issue for video but the difference is there and for text its a huge difference.

Things to get your head around before taking the plunge:
Colour bit depth (6, 8, 10 and above) - including pixel dithering Chroma sub-sampling (compressed colour details) Pixel type (TN vs. VA. vs. IPS) - and the different types of IPS Analogue signal cabling vs. Digital signal cabling (they have different considerations) Refresh rates (preety straight forward,  don't go less than 60hz) DPI (screen resolution vs. screen size) - and desktop scaling in windows Do a bit of reading on these things and you will know much more clearly what is important to you in a display and what to look for when sinking your hard earned cash into something you will stare at (if your anything like me) a whole lot.

CookieTheMonsta reacted to Katschung in 'The Quiet Viking' an IKEA case build
I present you my new project: The Quiet Viking, another project wich is based on a rather unusual case choice but more on that later.   First up the components wich will probably be used:   I7 4770K Asus Sabertooth Z87 GTX 980 (770) Corsair RM 650 8GB Crucial Ram 1TB Seagate HDD 240Gb Samsung 850 SSD   Later a custom loop will be added.   Now onto the case. I had to choose between Silverstone, Cooler Master, Bitfenix, Corsair etc. and that was not easy, so my choice fell onto...   IKEA!   Its the IKEA Oltedal if anyone is interested. And that name is the reason why my project is called "The Quiet Viking". Oltedal is a small town in Norway and when I think about Norway I think about vikings. It is indeed rather huge, you can see that my dummy board (Full size ATX) has more than enough space in there. But that will help making my look perfect, and watercooling later will be a breeze.
Everything dissasembled work. I can tell you taking apart ikea stuff is way harder than building them... I made some of the first cuts for cables and the I/O The cuts are not that perfect but it does its job well. Then some holes to screw the motherboard in.   And what are those stranges holes for?   Ahh yes, the 8-Pin CPU plug, I will never get it out there again...   And the rest of the cables.     In the top it looks like a complete mess, but no ones gonna see it in the end ...     Peripheral Time!   I gave my good ol' trusty IBM Keyboard a refresh with a bit of paint     The build is now finished until I get the time to make put my custom loop in, I wont rush this one since its my first full loop and I want it to be pretty much perfect. If I make some progress I will of course let ya see it.      Yes there is clear Plexi in the front, but it is so damn clear you cant see it unless you play around with a camera.   The plexi is just leant against these plastic angles and the rest is friction which holds it in place, and that works very well
To get it out I cut off a corner in the plexi   Same with the top panel, just held in with these angles and friction   That switch was too the last thing I waited for, since my last switch did just decide to go dead. (Pics of it at the end as fun)   On the inside didnt change anything except the routing of my PCI cables, which I will def need to redo.     This is the work of about 2 months, and I may get a sponsor in some weeks which will make the next progress much faster, otherwise it will need even more time    Hope you enjoyed it anyway

Ok so the first item on my list was manually changing the color of my blue fans to red. Now I have only changed on fan color because I do not have any more 5mm red LEDs but as you can see from the item I have ordered more are on their way so here is a quick timelapse of me changing one of my fans.

As well Ill create an playlist on YouTube for any videos on my upgrades. If you have any questions for the video please do not comment on the video itself, please post you question here and start with the name of the video.
    Ex: Changing fan LEDs: "Question"
It is easier for me to respond on here than it is on YouTube.

Front panels are usually removed by just pulling them from the bottom towards yourself. Or maybe you have some kind of screws in the case which you unscrew and then pull off front panel.

    that's the general idea yeah.
It will have a unique SSID (Name) and password (Well this can be the same if you really want)
So you will connect to it as if its an entirely different network.

yeah I am hoping with the back plate and the fact that I got the cables running so they pull up on the card that it will not sag over time so far after nearly 5 months it hasn't started sagging yet at least not enough to be perceivable to the eye.
