Sihastru got a reaction from Roshux in need help identifying this cable on my speaker!
It's a standard PS/2 plug (6 PIN MINI DIN), but it's used in a proprietary way, meaning the pins can be wired in a strange way. It's probably a 2.1 Klipsch system like the people above stated and this cable comes from the little wired "remote". The problem replacing it with a PS/2 cable from a defunct keyboard or mouse is that most do not use all 6 wire connections. See this video for repair instructions (not my video, just something I found after a quick search):

Also note the link in the description with info about where to buy the cable.

    COLOR TEST

    PATTERN TEST

So the conditions for the color bleeding are as follows:
    - It needs to be a very large surface in 1 solid color, preferably maxed out in channels R, G, B, R&G, R&B or G&B with the remaining channels being 0. The bigger the contrast, the more chance it will bleed.
    - When bleeding occurs, it will show up most in areas with neutral luminosity and texture alongside the x or y axis of said large surface.
    - When using the pattern from hell, you monitor will cry. (horizontally)
In any sane and normal workloads, you will *almost* never see or encounter this "color bleeding".

Sihastru got a reaction from Zerreth in Philips BDM4065UC 40" 2160p60 VA Monitor Review
Hey, I liked the Philips very much, that's why I bought one. My issue is that the panel doesn't have an intrinsic problem because it's a VA. Other VA monitors are fine. It's a firmware issue and I think Philips isn't interested in fixing it. Also I find it a bit concerning that no other review even mentioned any of these issues.

For example, messing around with the contrast and sharpness settings will, in some combinations, make the visual artifacting be more or less prominent. I do a lot of coding and Photoshop work, developing Android apps and games, and the problems were too distracting for me. Even in Premiere there were problems. I guess I was spoiled in the past, having a 30" S-IPS Dell 2560x1600.

Here's a video I made, where I discovered other issues with the monitor:

In the description there are download links to the images used as test patterns, and also links to a few forum posts that replicated these issues.

For games, youtube, tv series and movies the monitor is impressive. The blacks are so very deep that sometimes I had a hard time telling that the monitor was still on. And the fact that you can make the "wall of light" very dim means that you can use it for coding and reading text without too much eye strain. Even the PWM backlight wasn't affecting me in any way that I could tell. The glossy-ness was a bit too high for my taste but I was adjusting to it very nicely.

But I just couldn't get over those other issues. And I think people should know about them and make their own minds about getting one of these or not.

I made the decision to return mine and get my money back. And I have to tell you, after a few days with 40 inches of 4K awesomeness, I feel that my 30" monitor is really small now.

One "small" issue that affects all BDM4065UC monitors:

The image above is my own monitor, I've found others on the internet that confirm this is a widespread problem.

Sihastru got a reaction from daemonowner in Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV - Oldschool Unboxing
I get the whole "retro unboxing" idea, but I also feel that the video does a bit of a disservice to the EVOLV. This case is now home for my system and there were many things said about it in the video that were a bit inaccurate:

    - The "ssd bracket" is a pump mount. I would've preferred another modular ssd bracket included instead of this, but... whatever. I bought one.
    - The side panels simply lift off after you've opened them. They are a bit fiddly to put back in though.
    - The top panel simply pops off.
    - The 3.5" brackets allow mounting the drives with the connectors on the outside.
    - There is ample space for wire management.

I did find a few flaws with the case:

    - If you replace the front 200mm fan with two 140mm fans, the bottom screws of the bottom fan conflict with the dual 3.5" drive cage.
    - The side window has a bit of an inner bulge, all the EVOLV cases seem to have it.
    - The case is a bit large for an mATX, I can see a full ATX version that preserves the overall dimensions.

In conclusion I think the case deserves a proper review since it represents a nice departure from the plastic cases Corsair and other manufacturers keep pumping out.

If you guys liked this case, check out some of Jonsbo cases that are sold under the Cooltek or Rosewill Legacy brands. Like the U1, U2, U3 or the W1 or W2. I also have a U3 that is incredible small for a mATX case that can take full sized components and I'm liking a W2 for my next ATX build.

The Jonsbo/Cooltek/Rosewill Legacy W2 is on my shopping list for next year. Jonsbo brings almost Lian Li quality at a fraction of the price.

I got a CM Storm Quick Fire TKL with Cherry MX Green switches. The Stealth version so the legends won't come off too soon. I don't know why people say they're too stiff, they seem perfect for me. I do occasionally reach for the nonexistent NUMPAD, but I'm getting used to it.

    Happy programmer.

No, the Filco is not worth double. Costar makes both.

I'm a programmer and I never use the numpad, so I appreciate the saved space on a TKL. I'm using a QFR with green switches and I love it. Previous keyboard had blacks which I also like. I didn't like blues at all.

Only reason not to get greens is if you have girly hands and can't handle the 80g force.

I have a Trigger and a Ducky Shine 3 with Cherry Green switch and I love them. Greens are simply heavier/stiffer Blues which I find to be too light for my taste. Filco doesn't come with guaranteed PBT key caps, not that I know of anyway. I have a couple of Filco MJ2 and they have plain ABS key caps.

Sihastru got a reaction from sebby490 in Computer turns on, off, then back on
It's not a PSU issue, it's a motherboard behavior. Your PSU is FINE!

Most of the time it's related to memory settings. On cold boots, the motherboard does a RAM TRAINING test. It tries the XMP or JEDEC with optimal settings, no skews, no sizzling bits, no nothing. It then adjusts all the subtimings and subsettings and when it's satisfied it does a semi-warm boot. Shuts down and starts up again with the RAM settings locked. This is happening before POST information is displayed on the screen.

It does this because RAM has a strange behavior over time (a type of degradation) and it needs to relax some obscure settings. When the computer cold boots, it will do a NORMAL boot sequence instead of the QUICK boot sequence and this means retesting the RAM.

Before you ask, NO, this does not mean your RAM is defective. It's just something BIOSes had implemented a few years ago. Some boards will adjust these obscure settings, some will not.

PCIe 3.0 cards/slots are backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0.

A PCIe 3.0 16x card in a PCIe 2.0 16x slot will work @PCIe 2.0 16x. The bandwidth of PCIe 2.0 16x is almost the same as the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 8x.

Two PCIe 3.0 16x cards that are each inserted in PCIe 2.0 8x slots will work @PCIe 2.0 8x. Again, bandwidth of a PCIe 2.0 8x is almost the same as the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 4x.
