Sorry for the forum being down. As we were preparing a host for update and running migrations, the host locked up. The host in the cluster is now restarted and working again and was just a matter of very poor timing for a failure.

Sarra reacted to Invincible Sugar in Omegle.com shuts down after 14 years of connecting strangers on the Internet
    Summary
Omegle.com has shut down, citing the never ending battle against criminals and abusers, with no apparent intentions to come back. The site owner also explained some lore to the site, talking about their own life journey and why they made Omegle in the first place, and why they couldn't, in good conscience, allow the site to keep running.

    My thoughts
This is so sad for me, but I get it. Most of my good, long term online friendships started on Omegle. But I get it, I have an underage daughter, and I wouldn't want her using the video side of Omegle... some truly disgusting people out there have ruined something amazing for everyone else. 😔

I was genuinely entertained by this. The reactions from all parties was so awesome, and watching the set crew actively sabotage Linus was amazing and hilarious.

    Well done, thank you.

Sarra got a reaction from Mark Kaine in I'm ready to ditch MSI Afterburner... What to use?
Oh! I forgot an important bit.

Afterburner seems to be corrupting something in the AMD graphics driver. Every time I DDU and install a GPU driver, as soon as I run Afterburner, the driver refuses to run giving a 'version mismatch' error. Doesn't happen if I disable or uninstall Afterburner.

Funny thing is that I'm moving over to Linux. The gaming box I am using right now is going to be my last Windows PC.

Yes, yes, I did. I have no idea why it NEVER came up in any search I did, thanks Google. >_>

Edit: I totally forgot the actual important part here: Thank you!

MSI Afterburner was created as a spiritual successor to RivaTuner, IIRC, and was sponsored by MSI. As in the motherboard manufacturer. MSI owns the copyright for MSI Afterburner, and the creator is a Russian. Due to political stuff, MSI was unable to pay the person making the software, and after things... Didn't get better (?), they decided to end the partnership. This is super simplified, and might be slightly incorrect...

The person that made MSI Afterburner may start working on RivaTuner again. Or something else, that's similar and based on it. RTSS being somewhat closely tied to MSI Afterburner is because RTSS was also made and maintained by the same person, but MSI didn't have any involvement in that.

Sarra got a reaction from freeagent in I had a PC melt a cable today, and I don't have an NVidia GPU.
I can enable PBO, but the board's limits are actually right in line with the CPU's stock capacity. PBO basically just lets it run at a higher clock longer, but the poor chip is really limited to 5ghz on two cores.

But yes, I have new cables in the mail that are 14AWG.

And I have no intention of getting a different GPU, either.

I'm grateful that I'm getting a replacement. I think EVGA units are extremely well built, as well, but I would rather run a Platinum instead of Gold, and the two EVGA units I have are Gold. Makes sense if I'm going to do a 44 hour long render project that has my CPU pinned at 100% on all 32 thread for that entire time.

Just keep in mind the thickness of the cable isn't 100% indicative of the wire's gauge. Thick insulation can hide thin wires. But if there's an actual rating on the cable, then you can usually trust that.

I was approved for an RMA, so no internal teardown will result from this.

    Oh, I forgot this part...

I have two takeaways from this:

    1) I need a smoke detector for this room.
    2) I'm going to pick up replacement power cables for my computers, and I'm going to get 14AWG cords. I'd get 12AWG, and I actually have a 20A circuit, but my UPS is incapable of handing that kind of load, and won't be asked to, and 14AWG is overkill enough.

On the note for #2, I have actually watched the power pulled via my UPS. I never really go over 560W, which is 4.5 AMPS. I'm pretty sure the cable failed, and it destroyed the PSU. During gaming, I pull around 450W, and this also includes a monitor and some networking equipment, so the actual PSU cord should never have exceeded 4.5A, and an 18AWG cord is rated for 10A. Baffling.

Sarra got a reaction from SpaceGhostC2C in I had a PC melt a cable today, and I don't have an NVidia GPU.
I'm actually assuming that the protection in the PSU itself was after the problem. I think there was a short between the PSU plug socket and the fuse.

The AC plug was fully inserted, it was bottomed out in the socket. When I unplugged it, it was really difficult to get it to come out, and part of the power plug is now a part of the back of the socket, and part of the back of the socket is now part of the plug. There's an obvious imprint at the back of the socket from the plug itself.

All three pins in the PSU AC socket are damaged, the +120v and neutral pins are very dark, almost black, and the earth pin has discoloration along the length of it, but only in a thin line down the pin itself, and it's discolored white, not black.

I live in an environment that is low humidity, and we haven't had rain or humid air come through in quite a while now.

I'm still pretty baffled about what happened. Pretty sure it was either a screw hitting the 120V AC wire that goes from the pin in the socket to the first components, or the actual cable failed to make contact with the pins in the socket, and it burned up there.

I disagree. The prototype sale was, in fact, wrong, I do agree with that.

Data errors, well... LTT, and Linus himself, claim that they do their best for the highest accuracy on benchmarking. If they treated their content as entertainment, then why even post up data? Why collect it to begin with?

If they're going to put data out, it needs to be correct. The content is intended to be "worthwhile after the video is posted, for a long time, to help future purchases".

They really need to do better, and right now, I want to hear how they are going to accomplish this.

I'd like to get, at the least, an update on how they are handling this. Anything internal that is private should stay so, but everything else could be talked about. If the masses are willing to remain calm and listen, it might be a valid way to provide feedback, though the internet. It's FULL of trolls. O.x

Always kind of questioned myself and had uncomfortable experiences when it came to dating with the opposite gender. Identified as Bisexual / Pansexual for a large period of my life but after finally getting into a relationship with a person who identifies solely as male, and it strictly classified as a "MLM/Gay" relationship, I realised a lot of stuff about my past feelings and all that.

Nothing negative, luckily! Or at least I don't think so anyways...

After viewing the latest video, it appears that there was a collective desire within the company (and long-time viewers) for a significant overhaul of LMG. We've witnessed various on-screen personalities at LTT expressing the same sentiment in previous videos as well. However, it took a few videos from Steve for them to come to this realization.

The forum post by Linus here is something that should never have been posted. It's reassuring to see that Linus still has sensible individuals around who can guide him in the right direction.

As consumers, we've experienced being taken advantage of by these tech corporations on numerous occasions. Content creators such as Linus, Steve, and others are our only hope in confronting these greedy corporations.

You're putting out content that some people are going to use for large purchases. If your reviews are inaccurate, then they have much less value.

You need to be thorough and accurate, especially in benchmarks.

When errors are found, there needs to be an injection of voiceover during post.

All that energy, and money, you're pumping into the labs project is going to be for naught if your accuracy isn't there.

Start slowing down on the content, and do more checking. Steve raised a lot of valid points, I think you should look internally at processes to improve everything.
