Are you manually setting the memory speed, or using XMP?
If you're just manually setting it, consider using XMP (Under OC Tweaker > DRAM Information > Load XMP Setting).
By manually setting just the speed, you are not adjusting the latency and voltage, which could be the reason you can't get the memory higher than 2499Mhz.

If you used XMP and it didn't work, try updating the BIOS. Maybe a newer version works better.

I just checked the memory QVL for your motherboard and it turns out that your ram is not compatible. If you do decide to get new ram or a new motherboard go to the manufacturers website, look for the motherboard, click support, and there should be something called memory QVL. Look at that and make sure that the part number of the ram you want is there.

I am retired so all I do is goof off.

When I did work it was as a 3D designer specializing in trade shows witch is kind of strange since I had no talent.
I decided to go into it since I noticed that most people that do it also don't have much talent so there would be room for me. I needed to do something because I was a welder/fabricator that had a lung ailment and back injury. I started in 1992 and retired in 2018.

I can't show anything recent because of agreements I made in 2013 with my one customer but in 2012 I did a job for a Tile Trade Show that went under.
The image is of a 10' X 30' inline trades how booth made from a modular display system called Octanorm. Everything in the image as to be accurate since if the booth was sold it would have to be built form plans generated from the 3d model. Even the furniture is from a rental catalog and is to scale.

To make a living I had to do at least 5 projects like this per day and some days were slow and others were crazy.
This was done with Lightwave but in 2013 I switched to 3D Max. The computer was a i7 2600k with a GTX 570.

A 6870 consumes up to around 130 watts, they used 2 6 pin connectors because this amount was too close to the maximum permitted to be drawn through the slot and the pci-e slot ( 60w through slot + 75w through pci-e 6pin = 135 watts) and if user overclocked the card, this limit would be exceeded.
So it would be fairly safe to use a 2 x molex / 2 x sata -> pci-e 6pin /6+2 pin adapter cable , you won't overload the cables or the power supply.

As long as the psu can do at least around 200-250 watts on the 12v output, you should be fine.
