    5 Month Update!

I bumped my vcore up 1 step from 1.360 to 1.376, and dropped cache down a step from 4.5 to 4.4. And, I am proud to report that i have had 0 crashes due to CPU. Longest uptime was 100 days.

Board and PSU holding strong, max watts pulled is 231W at 82C (highest single core temp), while GPU ~33c (not under load, idling at coolant temp [using as coolant temp sensor kinda]).

I believe if I were to sand the surface of the water cooler, i might be able to get even better temps. My core temps are a bit skewed across ~8c. Might do an update vid on that in the future.

    W00T H440 CASE!!

In my H440 (my main pc), the entire front is a 360 RAD with 3 furious Varders. Sooo, no help there.

But, in my experience, Noctua is reliable and affordable. I personally would choose that brand for case fans. As for what model, I would just choose a common one from amazon with quick shipping TBH. It's not critical. Plus, theyre out of the way and hidden, they can be any color.

Unless, of course, you're mad specific about critical airflow stats. In this case, i would still go with Noctua, but more research.

Yeah, I know this really is not the best time to trying to do this.. After watching the flop of the 3090/3080 release, but I'm always worried about waiting and then not being able to find stock and having to wait even longer. I may need to look at the second hand market and see what I can find..

    The torture is real.

I don't think is the right time to buy a brand new GPU, save your money with a used, and wait the next 30 series and radeon response, that will drop prices down.

    5600xt is slightly better.
    you could also do a $300 for a used 2070 / 2080?

I was trying to keep it new parts, but 2070 or 2080 for $300 would be hard to pass up. I may have to expand my options and not be picky. Lol

Alright, I'm posting from RedFury again. I have benchmarks and numbers and it's pretty exciting!

Firstly, during all CPU stressing, the GPU (which is on the same coolant loop as the CPU) never got above 31C. The GPU idles around 27-28C. Gaming, 34-41C.

    Secondly, ambient is 23-24C.

Spoiler with screenshots of AsRock Z390 Pro4 BIOS settings. The BIOS is set to 5.1GHz base, max 4 core speed at 5.3GHz. Vcore set to 1.360v with LLC2.

When Gaming, the CPU hits ~68c, and under maximum load it pulls upwards of ~220W with temps of ~80c. Observe:
WOOO look at those watts, clocks, and temps. Man! I am impressed!

Ill be uploading a video on this soon!

Okay, after several hours... I wet sanded using 320>600>1000>3000.

I removed ~0.24mm, and final product turned out good i think. Close to mirror finish, but purposefully left some haze for adhesion.

The corners are just a tiny bit rounded but i think its okay.

So I upgraded to an i9-9900k from an i7-7700k. Due to the generational upgrade, I also had to upgrade the Mobo and also throw in some more RAM (cuz why not).

I also have some crazy plans for this build in the very near future, so check back for that.

it depends on the game, there are lots of titles where the 7640X to the 9800X wouldn't see a difference. And also, what is your performance target in those games?

JakeSublime reacted to ImAlsoRan in Where does sound come to my headset if I don’t have a sound card?
The difference usually comes to noise tolerance (from either a better chip or better shielding), but even that will usually come from higher-quality capacitors, still only found on expensive motherboards. I really just recommend you get an external headphone amp as those usually have the highest power and quality DACs, and they are separated from all of your PC components which means less noise.

JakeSublime reacted to Drexl in I have a malfunctioning 1080ti, can I "fix" it?
So, I just played an area of Remnant: From the Ashes that was crashing for me consistently (I gave up after like 5 crashes at the same spot), and lowering the memory clock DID in fact "fix" the issue, at least for the 20m that I tested it. No crashes in that time. I'm still certain I lowered the memory clocks last time I tried this, but it's working now so I'll be grateful and hope it continues to behave for a couple more months.
See above, but if the problem persists, I'll definitely do this. It's not like I have anything to lose, and I did revive my old 8800GTX this way back in the day.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Thanks guys, I greatly appreciate the care and feedback. It means alot to me, and helped me out. I've spent the last few days on my own, processing life and organizing myself.

The hardest part about all of this is.. the loved one who passed was my best friend. His name was Shadden, and he will forever be missed by myself and by many others. I considered him my brother.

The lesson this taught me was.. Nothing is forever, and you need to appreciate what you have while it's here, because tomorrow is never guaranteed. And once something is gone from your life, recognize and be grateful for the benefit and impact it made on your life while it was there (it or they).

    Thanks again, everyone. ❤️

So many things matter here.  Your way of thinking I remember hearing first in Star Trek, like the Klingon way of celebrating death.  Also how many african-american groups often celebrate death by having large parties to remember the good times and meeting together with others (after the funeral and tears are long gone).

But anyway, your personality, your relationship or standing with them, how long they lived, what did they accomplish (or did they just exist and do nothing notable), did they die young or old, was it a tragic accident, a homicide, or a natural death?  And if it was a natural death, did they know it was coming and were they able to communicate with you to the end?  And of course, was dementia/alzheimer's disease involved if they lived a long life or were they sharp and lucid to the end?  All of this matters.
