    Favorite Linux Distro and Why?

I like Solus because it's more bleeding edge than Ubuntu or Linux Mint but still very much stable. But one of the things I liked most is not about the distro itself but the very helpful community and their forum is very easy to use, it doesn't look archaic at all, and it's very enjoyable to talk to people there. As someone who have just switched to Linux since mid-December because of that linux gaming video that Linus made in mid 2018, I have really enjoyed the experience. It's really eye opening in my personal experience moving to Linux.
  2. You guys didn't check out the merch store, there are gems hidden there.
  3. Aaron Rutten has been known to be a hardcore Wacom fanboy so I don't think that's it. He has also been know to shit on competitors products too. I'm sure that he is talking about the competitors or the new kids because as you said, Wacom didn't have any for decades.

Western Digital to release 20TB HDD

Maybe Linus will use this for the Petabyte Project 2.0

The Supercar Gaming PC - Aventum X Review

I swear to God their Aventum x2 going to have floppy disks and cost 50k.

  7. I like how in this thread people are actually arguing about whether it's a scam or not but in the YouTube comments section, people are just praising Anthony.

    A $99 Laptop?! - Pinebook

I would be more insterested in the Pinebook Pro as well. There aren't any cheap Linux laptop manufacturer. Purism and system76 only sell mid to high-end laptop.
  9. Can we like stop pointing fingers and instead focus on voicing on our opinion as to how Linus could do better next time? If we're just looking at who's guilty, there'll be no ends to this.
  10. In this video, there's something that Linux didn't explore. That is eGPU through expresscard port on laptop. There are cheap used high-end-6-years-ago laptop like thinkpad x230 that has expresscard and cost like 200-300 dollars max. From that i've read, you'll need a psu (doesn't have to be a beefy one), a gpu, and these thing https://egpu.io/expresscard-2-0-egpu-interface-pros-cons-candidate-notebook-list/

    Laptop Under 300?

I mean, older laptops that ends up in recycling center probably has spare parts available and swappable batteries. He could just stock up these batteries and swap them out.
  12. Aight, the topic of discussion is which Linux distro should the OP use, let's not get into why Linux is better than Windows or vice versa.
  13. Whenever I read a review of a newer laptop that costs between 100 - 300 dollars, there is always people saying that buying used is better at that pricepoints. Now, that's probably true, since it does holds true on the desktop (Riley's videos on the cheapest PC on Amazon). But which laptop? Many people have said thinkpad, but which thinkpad? There's the T420, T430, X240, X230. And there's also option other than thinkpad like Dell Latitude or 2013 Macbook Air. Would be interesting to see a detailed review and comparison on what, why, and weird quirks for each choices. Also, might stop people commenting that they can't afford stuff everytime. Yeah, since it's used it will vary between regions but I have done some research and it seems that at least for Thinkpad and Dell Latitude, the prices is pretty consistent even in a third world country like Indonesia, where I live.

    Lenovo T480s or T490s

I don't know much about T-Series, I mostly harbor toward the X-Series, but yeha, I have agree with this point. They did remove physical button on the X240 but later reinstall them on the X250 so yeah.

Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions

Well, their 69 dollars gaming PC also wouldn't work everywhere because every region is different, right? Same like this, I'm basically suggesting them to make that video but this time with a laptop instead of a desktop/
  16. I would advise researching about your game compatibility here : https://www.protondb.com/

    What cpu should I get

I would just advise you to wait until Ryzen 3000 and watch the prices of first-gen Ryzen crashing down. There'll be mobo combo deals at microcenter all the damn time.

    Lenovo T480s or T490s

What makes them Thinkpad is that the people who buy them can actually think. As for the modern thinkpad, yeah, it's pretty disappointing. I wish modern hardware can be powerful without sacrificing upgradability.

    Laptop Under 300?

He said that he occassionally edits videos.

    Laptop Under 300?

Yes! Just buy a used thinkpad x230. They're super reliable, have a fingerprint reader, IPS panel, backlit keyboard, and only cost like 250$ at least where I live. When I bought my thinkpad with said price, the seller threw in 8 GB of ram and 180 GB ssd as well. Really good deal. Drives, battery, and RAM is replaceable. Replacement battery is very common in sites like eBay. Has three options even, 29 Wh, 62 Wh, 94 Wh. You can also have battery slices that have capacity of 64 Wh from sites like eBay. It uses a proprietary port under the laptop for it's many kind of dock (Not just the battery slices, there are many kind of dock you can use with this thing). You can even use eGPU through the express card port (though, not sure how that will work with modern card since this thing is from 2013). The chiclet keyboard is a joy to use. The processor is miles ahead of any brand new laptop you can get for 300 dollar. It doesn't have m.2 but it has mSATA that is a precursor to m.2. Of which, you can buy the drives from popular retail center still.

Help bringing life to a 2011 Macbook Pro

I would just advise you to install Linux on it, tbh.
  22. After reading many stuff posted in this thread, I think there's some stuff you can do with these kind of stuff moving forward that involves guides made by someone else on the internet about untested technology : Put experiment in the title somewhere Put a disclaimer in the video like what some people here have said As for this specific situation, IMHO. Make a follow-up video where you address the (like what Anthony have said) valid criticism from the passthrough post's blog post and for technical details you may have missed in the original video. You've done this before with the Mac Pro repair process video where you address the many criticism from the apple community. Which coincidentally also talking about Apple and was written by Anthony as well.
  23. Switched to Solus for my main system on PC and laptop. I don't do much gaming and the games I do play works fine. I only do occassional video/image editing so that's not really a problem for me. AMD Pro drivers aren't available here so I can't use OpenCl but that's not really something I would need. I'm waiting for the Fedora developers to successfully package ROCM so I can try using Resolve comfortably. So, might switch to Fedora Budgie soon. Honestly, can't go back to Windows now. Just seeing the Windows taskbar and panel makes me sick in the stomach now.
  24. I've read many reviews of the thinkpad X230 and X240, stumbled upon archaic tech forums, watched youtube reviews and it's comment section. The general consensus I got was that it's pretty popular, very modular and open (removable ram, battery, storage, multiple types of dock and multiple capacity of battery), inexpensive, and VERY durable. I stumbled upon a forum in which a user said that he left said series of thinkpad in the snow, and then later on, found out that it still working minus bluetooth. (Could be lying but that's pretty specific and hard to believe) So, any extreme experiences with said series of ThinkPad?
  25. The review I watched on YouTube.
