KENZY9 reacted to Mister Woof in School me on DDR5 v.Single Rank vs. Dual Rank
    hey fellas,

was looking at DDR5 kits and I am not sure if this is single rank or dual rank.

I know in some applications and scenarios, there is some small (but often meaningless) difference between single rank and dual rank DDR4 - and that when running 4x single rank DIMMS the system often will behave as if the dual channel memory is dual rank.

Can anyone tell me if this behavior still exists on DDR5? Specifically, this kit, is this DDR5 single or dual rank? Does it matter for DDR5?

Additionally, other than the RGB (which is priceless!) is this kit worth the extra?

For more information, thinking of combining 13600KF + Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR5.

The $50 difference perhaps worthwhile to jump to i7-13700KF instead and keep 6000mt/s

KENZY9 reacted to thiste in Ryzen 3000 RAM Frequency sweet spot
    Hello everyone,

So I have been thinking & looking to build a new rig & have a bazillion questions. But I'll start with RAM:

My platform of choice is a Ryzen 3700x with Asus TUF Gaming MB. Here's my understanding of RAM frequencies for this: according to this graph (attached image below), the so-called "sweet spot" for Zen 3 RAM is 3733Mhz at CL17. Many people choose to buy 3600Mhz CL16 because it's a lot more readily available & cheap than 3733CL17. I have been looking at G.Skill 32GB (2x16) 3600CL16 that I should be able to get around 225€.

However I just stumbled upon a pretty cheap Patriot Viper 3733CL17, but it's not on the Zen 3 list of supported RAMs ( pdf here ). Comments on Amazon do say there is zero compatibility issue though. This is a 2x8GB set so I would want to double that to get 32GB ( 2 x 86€ = 172€ total ).
    So my questions are:

    - Is this a good opportunity to get a native 3733CL17 for a good price? Is frequency more important than brand? The chip brand isn't disclosed but there are hints that this is a Hynix kit rather than a Samsung. Is Patriot a reputable/reliable RAM brand?

    - Should I instead stick with 3600CL16 with a bigger brand like G.Skill & pay 53€ more?

    - Are there performance differences between 2 sticks of 16GB  and 4x8GB? If yes, what are they?

    - Might I try to find a 3600CL17 instead, and overclock it to 3733Mhz? I'm no overclocking expert, but it should be doable, wouldn't it?

Again, keep in mind the 53€ difference, that not negligible.

Thank you all for the help!

P.S.: the G.Skill 3600CL16 is Samsung 16-16-16-36, the Patriot Viper is claimed at 17-19-19-39, the G.Skill 3600CL17 is Samsung 17-19-19-39.

Depends on how long you want to "future proof out.  32GB is great for modern games and OS.   But if you want to be ready fir windows 12+,  dual gaming, ai, 3d, pcie 5.0 ... bla bla bla, then 64GB isn't a bad go.   That said, memory kits for ddr5 only come in x 2 dim toping out a a total of 64GB atm.   But if your going ddr4 then a x 2 dim or x 4 dim kit is fine.  If your mobo support it.

I bought a kit of ddr4 ram, 16gb 3200mhz cl16, thinking that is the norm, like a couple of months ago everyone recomended 16gb, didnt think that things change so fast in the last couple of months and all people jump in the 32gb train so fast.

It is just crazy tbh, in summer everyone all over the forums said that you dont need more than 16gb ram, now I found out that its better to go with 32gb.
I guess I'll just buy another same 16gb kit and call it a day.

I'm also an enthusiast when it comes to pc but I have not noticed the ram trend went from 16 to 32 in just a couple of months.
I only game on my pc and have never seen my ram usage more than 12gb.

Watched this video, it seems 16gb is the sweetspot but it is really crazy how almost everyone when I look at their specs has 32gb ram.

Most everyone you see on Reddit is an enthusiast, and a good number of people here are power users in some way. Both of these circles will usually be found running a minimum of 32GB. If you're only gaming and doing some light productivity, you don't really need 32 yet.

RAM is the cheapest and easiest part to upgrade in a PC, so I'd say roll with a 2x8GB kit for now and buy another one when you find yourself needing more than 16GB.

I think it depends on what game you play, but no matter what 32gb is going to be much more future-proof. Most games use less than 16gb but if you have stuff open in the background it can cause problems. Games are getting close to using all 16gb. Modern Warfare II can use around 14~15gb from what i've seen. SO it's getting to the point where 16gb won't be enough. I'd go for the 32gb to make your build much more future proof and useable in the next couple years

Unless you also stream your gaming sessions along with 47 browser tabs open while also watching Youtube, no. If you are only gaming or doing "normal" tasks, 16GB is fine for the current time.

5600G is still Zen3. It just has less cache than normal Zen3.

If you're deadset on using a 4070 then the 5700X is the way to go.

But most people should avoid the 4070. As @Tomberry mentioned the 6800XT is a better choice with more VRAM and a lower price.

It looks like the LTT stubby is (holistically, also depending on which categories that you find most relevant) better than anything cheaper and cheaper than anything better, which is a good place to be in. The single major losing category is the amount of rotation in locked position. This seems more or less in line with the full-sized screwdriver.

True, but that does not change the testing methodology and it does not distort the results of tests to favor a screwdriver or the other. It's as transparent as it can get. This was also the case with the normal LTT screwdriver. And @poochyena pointed out a reason for this. And of course, like in any other case with PF's reviews, it is viewer suggested. And given the coverage LTT has, the viewers definitely wanted to see the LTT screwdriver(s) tested and they were interested in both of them, above any other screwdriver, I think. No matter what, I doubt that somebody would make a purchase, based solely on the title of the video or the thumbnail. I see nothing bad, in the presentation. Nothing nefarious and no ill intent from PF.

I just wonder what kind of wizardry PB Swiss uses with their magnet. The LTT driver (standard one) is pretty strong in my experience. The PB Swiss regular and stubby has dominated both respective tests for magnetic strength.

    Manufacturing tolerances.
If you buy the same drivers and perform the same tests, you're not going to get the same results. This is why Project Farm shouldn't be used as an objective reference because true scientific studies would uses multiple copies of each driver to avoid the chances of golden samples of one brand being compared against sloppy samples of another brand which would result in misleading performance differences.

The review was made exactly in the same manner as the review for the normal screwdriver and as Project Farm always states at the end of the video, this review as well, was viewer suggested. Project Farm releases videos every Sunday. Given that the stubby was supposed to release on the 17th, the review was scheduled to be released on the 20th. Like with the normal screwdriver, it was put on sale (pre-order) on the 30th of August 2022 and Project Farm's review came on the 4th of September. The only thing that did not coincide now, was the release of the screwdriver, for obvious reasons. In my opinion, I don't believe that Project Farm should have postponed releasing the review. The testing methodology, data collection, etc are pretty solid. To me, personally, it does not seem like a promotional video or an endorsement video for LTT and/or (one of) their products.

I take issue with 2 things in the project farm video

1 the LTT logo being featured in the thumbnail while no otjer manufacturers logos are featured in the thumbnail

2 at the end he thanks LTT for letting him buy the screwdriver early ( he did pay full price ) but it seemed more like a feature our screw driver and promote our product type video

even that it came in 3rd and was kinda alright this doesn’t sit well with me specially when LMG posted a floatplane  message that they intended to launch the screwdriver on Friday but due to current events that wasn’t happening anymore this review seems more like a promotional video given the timing

Most of the time when you use stubby, you're already so tight place that it would be better to get "Skewdriver", basicly offset adapter that gives you bit over 90-degree corner to your screwdriver/power drill with 1/4" heads.

I have old passes down set but it seems that SpecTools are still a company so https://spectools.com/product/skewdriver-high-capacity-model-p9801hc/ there you go. Have been saving me quite many times when even stubby drives are way too huge or I just couldn't get enough power to the stubby thing.

Standard desks have a shape where the posts are on either side of you when your chair's pushed in. The narrow part fits between the two legs/sections of desk for the casters that make it that far in.

If you don't like/need it, it's just as easy to get a full square mat.

Hi everyone - I would like to join the question as I am looking for something roughly similar. My trusty Logitech G19 is dying and I want to find a replacement for it.
I have never used a mechanical keyboard before so I'm a bit terrified by the choice of switches. My feature list:
Full backlight (preferably RGB, must include all characters on the keys) Low profile Dedicated media keys + volume scroll (I'm flexible here - could live with some multifunction keys I think) Full layout (no TKL or smaller) Wireless (as mentioned above - I can settle for wired) Mechanical It is really important for me for the keyboard to be low profile. I almost pulled the trigger on Logitech G915 but special characters are not backlight on it which is a deal breaker for me. Its a shame really as I would be happy having to use just a single software for my mouse and keyboard.

From what was proposed earlier Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Low-Profile looks promising, but maybe you can help me find something else.
I find it is really difficult to find a low profile wireless keyboard with backlight (even not mechanical one).
    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: In the end i went with k70...

It usually helps if you share what research you have done yourself. You clearly have some stuff in mind so I assume you had a look around for yourself as well?

    Anyway...

Keyboards that tick most of your boxes. Although for the keys you'll have to check for yourself if they are acceptable. Even browns between various switches feels different.

Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro  Logitech G915 Lightspeed
    Everything besides wireless

Mountain Everest Max Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 Low Profile
    Steelseries Apex (various variants available)
Corsair Gaming K95 RGB Platinum Cherry MX Brown
Roccat Vulcan (also various variants available). Media keys through function key I believe.

There are likely a ton more keyboards that also check your boxes but without a budget indication and sharing what you already researched yourself it is a bit hard to recommend something properly. There is also the whole rabbit whole the mechanical keyboard enthusiast space where with custom keyboard designs you assemble yourself with QMK firmware. I assumed for the moment that you are not looking into that, but depending on your budget and the time you are willing to spend it is an option 😉

    Hello everyone,

I want to upgrade my monitor. I am looking at two monitors:

    Asus PG278Q
    Asus PG279QR

Yes I know, they are (mostly) the same monitor. The one feature that I am really not sure about, is 165hz.
I am playing FPS games on a highly competitve level, so I am not really sure if I can profit from the +21hz. I have already done some research, but there isn't really a answer. Some say, that there is no difference at all, some say there is a big difference..
My plan is to buy the monitor used (so I can save some money), but the QR is still 100-200€ more expensive.

What is your guy's oppinion on this?

But all in all FreeSync and G-Sync are 99% interchangeable these days and there are only rare cases where it's doesn't work either way.
