Is 32gb ram the sweetspot now?

I recently upgraded my old build to a 12600kf, z690 aorus elite, rtx 3070, 16gb 3200mhz cl16 for 1440p144hz gaming. Now I've noticed that almost everyone on reddit or this forum uses 32gb ram. I tought that 16gb is still the sweetspot for gaming. Should I get another 16gb to make it 32gb?

Unless you also stream your gaming sessions along with 47 browser tabs open while also watching Youtube, no. If you are only gaming or doing "normal" tasks, 16GB is fine for the current time.

I think it depends on what game you play, but no matter what 32gb is going to be much more future-proof. Most games use less than 16gb but if you have stuff open in the background it can cause problems. Games are getting close to using all 16gb. Modern Warfare II can use around 14~15gb from what i've seen. SO it's getting to the point where 16gb won't be enough. I'd go for the 32gb to make your build much more future proof and useable in the next couple years

Most everyone you see on Reddit is an enthusiast, and a good number of people here are power users in some way. Both of these circles will usually be found running a minimum of 32GB. If you're only gaming and doing some light productivity, you don't really need 32 yet.

RAM is the cheapest and easiest part to upgrade in a PC, so I'd say roll with a 2x8GB kit for now and buy another one when you find yourself needing more than 16GB.

I'm also an enthusiast when it comes to pc but I have not noticed the ram trend went from 16 to 32 in just a couple of months.

I only game on my pc and have never seen my ram usage more than 12gb.

Watched this video, it seems 16gb is the sweetspot but it is really crazy how almost everyone when I look at their specs has 32gb ram.

It is quite easy to use over 16GB.  I mean I was sitting at 44GB in use when I checked this morning.  *Most* games will run just fine with 16GB but less stable fps and there are going to be a lot of newer titles you have to shut down everything first.  I had to do that on occasion when I still had 32GB.  I would put 32GB as a minimum for an enthusiast.

no reason to get 16gb unless you're really on a budget. 32gb kits are cheap, and if you're on DDR5 32gb kits are more or less the most common configuration anyway so you're getting that by default almost.

I bought a kit of ddr4 ram, 16gb 3200mhz cl16, thinking that is the norm, like a couple of months ago everyone recomended 16gb, didnt think that things change so fast in the last couple of months and all people jump in the 32gb train so fast.

It is just crazy tbh, in summer everyone all over the forums said that you dont need more than 16gb ram, now I found out that its better to go with 32gb.

I guess I'll just buy another same 16gb kit and call it a day.

Depends on how long you want to "future proof out.  32GB is great for modern games and OS.   But if you want to be ready fir windows 12+,  dual gaming, ai, 3d, pcie 5.0 ... bla bla bla, then 64GB isn't a bad go.   That said, memory kits for ddr5 only come in x 2 dim toping out a a total of 64GB atm.   But if your going ddr4 then a x 2 dim or x 4 dim kit is fine.  If your mobo support it.

i guess i should have read the op lol

if you already have 16gb, it should be fine. You'll know when it isn't when you get performance drops, RAM usage is very high, and disk usage/activity increases (page file)

There's more of a mix of enthusiasts and regular people than you typically find on Reddit.

Well guys, you've convinced me, will return my 16gb 3200mhz cl16 and I'm about to order 32gb 3600mhz cl18 (2x16gb) corsair vengeance pro for €40 more. Is it a good deal?
