MGE Dawn's Achievements

  1. I plan to... it's just that I'm short enough on cash until my employer decides to start scheduling me for my usual number of hours again that I can really only pay my rent and keep the utilities turned on. Same reason why I haven't picked up my monitors, TBH...
  2. So nothing. Just pointing out something you seemed to have forgotten about whilst agreeing with you
  3. Not just those, they also slap a really annoying watermark on your screen that you can only get rid of by activating Windows
  4. HDD arrived and has been installed, will update once I've had a chance to run some benchmarks. Unfortunately, I had to run to work shortly after I performed the install, and then ended up in a situation where I was on the clock in some way, shape or form for the better part of 24 consecutive hours...

  5. MSI Tomahawk, 8GB (2x4GB kit) PATRIOT Viper DDR4-3000. Haven't tried manual tuning for a lack of knowing what I'm doing
  6. Recently finished assembling my new system, and one of the first things I tried to do was enable my RAM's XMP boost... only to find that doing so causes the system to refuse to post, which forces me to clear the CMOS and try again. Luckily, the board I'm using has 2 XMP profiles you can enable; one at the maximum rated clock for your memory modules (in my case, 3000), and another at a clock approximately halfway between that point and the default speed (in my case, 2667). The latter works fine, and is what I'm currently using. The former does not, though. Is this a common issue? If so, how can I resolve it?
  7. In short, he's only operating at 30% efficiency when taking a dump, eh?
  8. What's this? 2 updates in as many days? Yeah, so my GPU and M.2 SSD finally showed up (no thanks to FedEx on that one; they'd been sitting in a dispatch warehouse less than 50 miles from my front door for a good 2 days when I received my PSU, and it took another day and a half just for them to get it BACK on a truck), which I promptly installed. Pics attached, as always. I've installed Win10 Pro on it, although I won't be able to customize anything until my next paycheck when I can pony up the $200 it costs for a legit license. At that point, I'll also be ordering the HDD and running the usual set of benchmarks so we can see what this puppy can do... however, as a teaser, I'll go ahead and include the Cinebench scores for, in the words of a close friend of mine, "shits and giggles." This is it, folks! We be on the home stretch! *Monitors also on the to-do list. The new setup calls for 2 of 'em, because this desk can't fit 3! **PC has been moved from the location shown... it was really only there during initial setup, which came in handy for the sheer number of times the CMOS had to be cleared from me screwing something up ***Aaaannnnnd I almost forgot this. Sorry it took me all night to remember! It's worth noting that it DID have far higher scores at first... until I realized that the 4.0 GHz overclock I had originally managed to dial in wasn't actually stable, thanks to a nice little blue screen about half an hour into the Prime95 torture test. Looks like 3.75 GHz is the highest I'm gonna be able to go, even WITH bumping the voltages accordingly
  9. Alright, quick question: what's the secret to being able to tell if an overclock is stable?

  10. Crisis averted. Cleared CMOS via jumper pins, system posts once more. So far, every time a change has been made that didn't post, it's been to enable XMP... maybe just got unlucky with the RAM not wanting to run at rated speed?

Upon further testing, this appears to possibly be the case. XMP profile 1 (2667 MHz) runs fine. All previous changes were to enable XMP profile 2 (3000 MHz), which have all resulted in post errors...

2667 will have to do. Gonna need to revisit the course materials, as it were

  11. Update: system posted, Win10 installed. Started playing around with Ryzen Master and MSI Afterburner, but I must've screwed something up because system will no longer post. Debug LEDs show CPU and DRAM failure, not sure how accurate that is though...

  12. GPU and SSD arrived today, figured I'd at least install my OS and whatnot... just one problem: can't figure out the boot priority for the life of me. Trying to install Win10 via USB, please send help

Creates a non-UEFI installer? That was so much more helpful than you could've possibly realized... the boot priority list in this board's BIOS has 2 of literally everything: a UEFI version and a non-UEFI version. Thank you so much for clearing that up...

  13. Trust me... I made a point to address that possible outcome in my own public comment. TBH, I kinda wish I'd remembered to bring it up in my comment on the Net Neutrality repeal...
  14. I wouldn't hold my breath. That wouldn't make it more than 12 hours without the Attorney General taking issue and serving the FCC with a lawsuit...
