InertiaSelling reacted to zapsyou in Stream at Resolutions higher then the host computer with Steam In-Home Streaming
The other day I was playing around with Steams in home streaming and discovered how stream games at a higher resolution then the host computers monitor (which is normally the limit) this might be commonly known already but I haven't been able to find much about it (if anything). I have only tested this on my desktop (parts are listed in my profile page) which is streaming to my Macbook Pro Retina so it may not work for everyone. Also I'm sorry this isn't a very neat guide the pictures are kinda hard to change and resize.

This guide is basically an adaptation of Crokys down-sampling guide on Neogaf (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509076) and Slicks OG Super sampling anti aliasing (

The first part is to enable a resolution not exposed by the display this is done through the Nvidia control panel on the host computer (this is the pc in which the games will be running)

    1.  Right click on your desktop and start "Nvidia Control Panel" -> go to "Adjust desktop size and position" under "Display".

Use these settings ; Scaling mode : Aspect ratio, Perform Scaling on : GPU, Check "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs"

    2) Go to "Change resolution" under "Display", Press "Customize"

    3) Tick the box "Enable Resolutions not exposed by the display" Then press "Create custom resolution"

    4) At this point write the desired resolution (the resolution of the client computer) into the following window, under "Horizontal pixels" and "Vertical pixels". (In this case I tried 2560 x 1600 which is the resolution of my client computer (macbook pro retina)

    5) Press test and one of the following will happen:

    - You get an image, everything works, press save and go to step 6
    - You get a black (sometimes flashing red) screen or your monitor will tell you the current resolution is not supported : press ESC once or twice and wait for the screen to revert back to normal. If this occurs I recommend testing a lower resolution or trying more advanced or more advanced methods of downsampling (refer to Corkys downsampling guide on neogaf (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509076))
    - You get a black screen, monitor goes into power saving mode : your computer just crashed so reboot and try different or more advanced methods of downsampling (refer to Corkys downsampling guide on neogaf (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=509076))

    6) Now that you've added the custom resolution on your host computer switch to your client pc and start up a game and go into the games display settings.

    7)  Now change the game resolution to match the resolution of the client pc

You should now be able to stream games at a resolution higher then that of your host monitor. If you want to do this for AMD there are down sampling guides available (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=366244) and once streaming and in-game it should work the same. If your interested in learning more about downsampling or ruinning your monitor at higher the support resolutions you should check out this post

Game was in pre-production from 2012 to 2018, at which point it finally went into full production and was crapped out in a year. They used an engine that wasn't made for RPGs, EA screwed them over by enforcing microtransactions, and it's just overall a massive shitshow.

    TLDR: Games as a service.

EDIT: Also, despite EA being cancerous as usual, BioWare main team still had 7 years to finish the game and they still delivered jack-all. BioWare is well and truly dead.

It does not seem easy at all. I'm baffled that you would spend that much time building props yourself for a modding project. That level of attention to detail is rare and precious. Keep up the good work!

As some of you may have noticed I am a US Army disabled Vet from my signature line.  My oldest son (yes I am an old fart) was a US Army paratrooper with the 101st. He was killed last year in an IED attack.  Today my anniversary and the day he graduated from his (my son) graduation from Airbourne and a couple of days from when he gained his commission. Thanks for getting this far. Today I get this shipment from FedEx and I had to sign for, the thing is I did not order anything. It was several large boxes. And about time the FedEx truck was leaving, my daughter in law and grandkids pulled into the driveway, she helped me get the 4 doxes into the house. It did not occur to me why she and the grandkids showed up, they should be in school. I went to open the boxes and found a letter in one. It was from my son, which revealed all this was an anniversary gift from him, that he had set up before his death. My daughter in law and grandkids were here to see it as she had known about what he wanted to do.  he knew about my budding interest in gaming and PC tech and building systems. In the boxes was everything I needed to overhaul my system and then some. I had told him that I planned on overhauling my system early this year.  He did not know when so as a few of you know I have already started to do that. But he had sent me, MB, GPU's CPU, PSU, case and everything I needed to cool it all. I was stunned, it was like he was still here,  and I guess he was. His widow made sure that it got done.  I am known to be a hard ass, and I do not let much get to me, but I sat on the floor and with my grandkids holding me cried like a baby for a long time.  I'll stop now and save you the rest of the boring details. I just wanted to tell people about it.  I am still letting it sink in as I sit here amongst the boxes and packing.  Value your family folks. Thanks for reading all this sentimental stuff. Hope your day is going well.

Following up on the last update, quite a lot has been done.

The underlying picture is halfway during the assembly of the whole build. All the lighting still had to be done, and some hardtubes still had to be bent.

    Finally got the lighting done!

Then Cooler Master asked if they could show the build at Firstlook, an even in the Netherlands. I had to finish the build, and shortly before that quite some problems arose.

First of all one of the fans showed the wrong color, and one of them was broken (the pwm wire was broken off at the center.)
On top of that, one of the pumps decided to break down on my as well… So: I showed the build and it looked perfect (apart from the fans), it was just not running. The lights worked, fans worked, the PC just wasn’t powered on.

    Proud!

And next to Peter Brand’s C700P as well!

High quality pics from Cooler Master

That’s it for this one sadly. Next update will contain final pictures, but I’m still waiting for new fans from Cooler Master. Will come soon I hope!
