    Show off your latest purchase!

I just got this today. A battery powered soldering iron. It uses 4 AA batteries, and claims to last to up to 2 hours. I'm wiring up some 12v computer fans for cooling my mom's greenhouse for the summer (powered by a 12v deep cycle vehicle battery), I can't really bring my soldering station outside so that's why I got the battery powered soldering iron. That's a latching power button (that I also got today) so all that she needs to do is push it to turn the fans on/off. I'm going to 3D print a holder and mount for the button today. Here is some temperature charts for alkaline and NI-MH batteries.

我的手发出一种强大的力量,它的燃烧抓地力告诉我打败你! In all seriousness, expensive peripherals does not make a great gamer. I agree that if money is a concern to get cheaper peripherals or stick with what he/she has for now.

    Just help me!

I tried it, it worked better then I expected, but is still unusable for the most part. It may make a good cheap and power efficient render farm though. I actually recorded it, but the video is far too big to post on these fourms and personal YouTube videos aren't allowed outside of status updates, so I tagged you in a status update.

    Just help me!

As someone who is actually making some money from my models (3D printed products) I can assure you that while a beefy PC will help with render times, you shouldn't have any issues starting out with a PC that's less than half of the price that you are asking for. I don't think that you are getting the answers that you want to hear in this thread, but in all seriousness there is little to nothing that any of us can do to convince your father.
  7. Most non rual areas of America has recycling bins, San Francisco actually had 3 bins, an extra one just for composte. But yeah, America is pretty behind when it comes to being "green" with many practices. I figured that you weren't from America actually, it's 3 in the morning here, most of us are asleep right now. I'm probably gonna go to bed as well after I finish my beer.
  8. I live in a rual part of Oregon, and yeah, it sucks. I have a 3D printer that can take PETG though (glycol modified PET) so if I get the right equipment I can probably recycle most soda bottles for printing purposes. But otherwise there is no realistic way for me to recycle that wouldn't be a massive inconvenience unfortunately.

How to make your smartphone looks cooler

Glitter. Lots and lots of glitter.
  10. Exactly, I was talking about solutions to problems instead of "plastic bad" or "don't take my straws away you hippies" since that's how progress is made. Yeah, proper recycling can go a long ways, but that's not only on the individual, but the city in question as well. There is no recycling services where I live, so I do my best to improvise.
  11. Correct, PLA is rather recent, but that doesn't stop it from being a solution to the problem. Also, there have been biodegradable polymers for much longer, and straws tend to be some form of PET, which is extremely easy to recycle. That means that people need to stop throwing them on the ground though.

AMD Zen 2 vs 9900k More Cores = faster CPU ?

I actually like the brown fans, but I agree that they clash with many PC builds. I have redux and chromax noctua fans, the redux being a two tone grey and the chromax being all black except the spacers, in which you get to choose the colors.

AMD Zen 2 vs 9900k More Cores = faster CPU ?

Oh, no there is a specific TR4 version. The two on the top and bottom are TR4 heatsinks, the one in the middle is a standard one (direct heatpipe method). My noctua performs better then a 280AIO (nzxt kraken). Yeah, it's probably a supply issue. I'm sure that a Threadripper 3000 will be released eventually, perhaps Noctua knows something that we don't with a release date in 2020. And yes, Noctua is worth every penny, they are indeed ugly, but they are some of the best performers on the market.

AMD Zen 2 vs 9900k More Cores = faster CPU ?

Wrong. I have a dark rock pro tr4. On a 1920x, ambient temperature of 20c, I hit tjmax in 47 seconds, my single tower NH-u14 tood 4 minutes and 23 seconds.

AMD Zen 2 vs 9900k More Cores = faster CPU ?

Unless your news source is less then 48 hours old then you're incorrect. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/computing/amd-threadripper-ryzen-3000-cpus-wont-replace/%3famp But please do tell if you have more recent news, as someone who has a Threadripper CPU, I would be highly interested. Furthermore, here's how you properly souce when a company states that something is going to be released.
  16. The only way I see it costing 20 dollars is if he's including the heatsink. My statement was geared towards the conversation regarding plastic straws, which is why I quoted multiple people. I wasn't targeting a single person, but those who were engaging in the debate. And I did read your sentences, you told someone who was complaining about AMD's packaging being too expensive (even though they are most likely incorrect) that they sound like the kind of guy who would vote against plastic straws. So you decided to use an irrelevant comparison to what is a real world problem, albeit a minor one. But go ahead and take my last sentence as personally as you want, not my problem. Also, you're welcome for the information.
  17. Grow a thicker spine and stop taking things so personally.
  18. PLA (polylatic acid) is a plastic polymer that's fully biodegradable and food safe. They are by products from plants, and is 100% natural. There, problem solved. So stop talking shit about materials that you know nothing about.

AMD Zen 2 vs 9900k More Cores = faster CPU ?

AMD removed Threadripper from their roadmap, so we have no clue when a Threadripper 3000 well be released. Don't be surprised if we have to wait until 2020 for a Threadripper 3000.
  20. https://www.techspot.com/amp/news/79221-much-rtx-crytek-reveals-real-time-ray-tracing.html I was informed thag posting a YouTube video is appropriate in this instance, so below you will see a video demo that was using a Vega 56 to render a partally raytraced scene, not unlike Nvidia's own real time raytracing. That's definitely interesting. Perhaps this will be the gateway for rtrt with AMD users. I have my doubts though, this so far is just a demo, which isn't necessarily indicative of real time performance, second off, as the article itself says. We are still not sure whether this particular form of rtrt will benefit from Nvidia's specialized rtrt hardware, even though, it seems to run well on AMD cards if the demo has anything to say about it. However, this is Crytek, the same company that developed/created Crysis, which was revolutionary and pushed what hardware could do at the time to it's limits, so it wouldn't surprise me if they manage to make rtrt possible for non RTX users.

Looking for a budget to midrange 3D printer

https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/3d-printers/180-original-prusa-i3-mk3-kit.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw8LTmBRBCEiwAbhh-6CdPZNhS8UtdlL2zGcUkwOVt0xZxFOAvlWZDOr-oPmBPmpgNCCAeaBoCEo8QAvD_BwE Has just about everything you want except the glass build plate. The build plate is magnetic and thus easily removable though.
  22. The lack of wires are helpful for more active activities. But I get what you mean, you need a charging cable and a wall to USB outlet. Although for road warriors, a multi USB wall outlet is common for them to store already.
  23. I think that most of OPs thoughts can be chalked up to speculation, although he tends to go onto tangents so I admittedly haven't read a lot of what he said if he didn't directly quote me. Although when it came to his explanation of water resistance he was downright spreading misinformation. The removal of the headphone jack was very abrupt compared to most other connectors, and even so, there are PCIe cards (or adapters) for most of the connectors that have since been removed from current hardware. Headphone dongles are simaler in that regard, but the problem with that is twofold. One, there is no standard, so some work with some phones and not others, and two, there is only one USB port on your phone. While wireless charging is a thing, it's no substitute for an actual wire. I have said this before, but if you give me 2 USB C ports, with one that has a built in DAC/AMP, I'll be happy. That would allow any 5 dollar dongle to work with the device, and more versatility with USB OTG functionality.
  24. Well, yeah. I didn't really bring that up because most people that can't afford a new pair of headphones probably can't afford a new phone either, but there are factors like having to replace a damaged or stolen phone. So yeah, budget is a huge deciding factor as well, perhaps the biggest.
