  1. The problem I have isn't that GPUs are expensive, it's that they are more expensive than they should be because of a specific group of people. I already am doing as you say and am saving up, but that doesn't mean it's not frustrating or that the miners aren't (at least partially) at fault.
  2. The only purpose in life is to enjoy what little of it you have left. If these people's actions are actively making it more difficult for me to enjoy my life more than it otherwise would be, then no, I don't care about their lives or the families they need to support. Call me selfish and I'll wholeheartedly agree with you - I am. It's not my job to care about their well-being.
  3. I am a part of the (seemingly) rapidly decreasing minority of people who despise "material" web design. There's just way too much space that gets wasted for the sole purpose of aesthetic. Oh well, the industry is moving in that direction so I might as well just hope that the next shift in design philosophy is more in line with my ideal of giving me the most information with as little of my time wasted as possible. Hopefully the direction Reddit is going in won't involve me having to scroll 10x more than I currently have to.
  4. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll be able to beat it to that punchline. Wait...
  5. To frustrate people that know how to count. And to save those numbers for when they create some super amazing iteration they have been cooking up since 2008, when 3.0 was released. Though that last bit probably won't happen, and they'll just keep announcing more 3.x releases. When they get to 3.9 they'll just add some letters to it (e.g. 4G LTE). The eternity of USB 3 shall not be stopped! Until USB dies, which it eventually will.
  6. Yeah, but it feels like we're getting to the point where every change to most standards are more frequent and incremental and we're done with the big, noticeable changes.
  7. I hate these naming schemes. Whatever happened to the good ol' 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.. Anyway, this improvement seems fine, I guess. Though I do wish the increase in speed was a bit more substantial, not that that would be relevant for a while anyway.
  8. Damn, beat me to it. But yeah, this seems like a really interesting implementation of this kind of tech, though I do worry that if it takes off in popularity that its potential for misuse will increase exponentially. This particular instance doesn't have GPS, but I can't see that, and other potentially worrisome features, remaining off the table for very long, especially if this concept becomes more widely used. At least in seems easy to insert and remove, for now. I don't know about you lot, but I'm definitely not up for getting chipped. Not until I have to in order to do anything.
  9. As far as I'm concerned, any and all porn that isn't actual, real rape and doesn't involve human minors should be completely legal to view. As for not wanting minors to have access to any of it - that's completely stupid and unrealistic in this day and age. Don't want your young child to accidentally stumble across it? Do they have access to Google? Give up - they will see it eventually no matter what you do (even if you go as far as not giving them any internet access), so instead prepare how you're going to explain to them what it is and why they should probably avoid it until they reach a certain age, rather than just outright blocking it and vilifying it. And if a teenager does want to watch porn - he/she will. Make all of the most popular sites require CC info? You'll find that a lot of normally obscure websites will suddenly rise in popularity. The only purpose this serves is to satisfy a stupid, archaic, and pointless moral compass. This doesn't help anyone, it encourages even more repression of normal sexual urges and makes pretty much everyone hate your government even more. None of these are good things. As an aside, I seriously hate this whole "protect the children" angle a lot of these types of laws use to push themselves forward. Stop using a lack of parental responsibility to make my legitimate use of these services more pointlessly harder/more frustrating than it needs to be, which is not at all.
  10. I mean, this is the same China that's trying to pass new internet censorship laws as of June 30th. “Unhealthy” views of the family, relationships, and money are also included in the online video programmes ban consisting of 84 categories. China doesn't like their citizens accessing anything they feel strays from their "ideal" society. Adding VPNs to their growing list of bans is just continuing to exacerbate the problem. China's government is horrendous and abysmally stupid but it doesn't seem like that will change at any point in the near future.
  11. I'm currently using AVG and have Windows Defender turned off, so will this update still apply to me?
  12. Do you or anyone else have any idea how long that will last?
  13. Have you tried using the other RAM slot, or a different stick/set of RAM?
  14. Out of everything listed, Darksiders 3 interests me the most. Hopefully, the PC version will get much better treatment than Darksiders 2 got/has. Also, some further updates on God of War's and Shadow of War's gameplay/release schedule would be nice. And seeing whether Ubisoft has either killed or revived Assassin's Creed will be mildly interesting. Aside from those, that's it for me, unless some completely unexpected, but welcome, announcement happens (such as TES6).
  15. I don't know why you said "was", it still is - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6290024/ Rating: 9.8/10 - ‎7,931 votes And Uno: The Movie was pretty damn hilarious.
  16. If you follow JayzTwoCents, that's the chair he switched to when he got his new office space; he mentions it in his review of their desk at about 6:15, if you're curious.
  17. Eh, I'd much rather get the Autonomous Ergochair 2 for $350 USD - better custom ergonomics for the same price seems like a much better deal to me.
  18. I hate this whole "protect the children" angle these proposed laws always seem to have. If you want to protect minors from pornography, first of all, give up, if they want to access it, they will, secondly, treat sex like alcohol - terrible when you're young, stupid when you're a teenager, good when you're an adult, but not without risks. If you want to stop them from witnessing violence, again, you should probably give up: violence is everywhere, better to inform them about it and how terrible it is, rather than hoping they never see it till they're 18 (they will) and having them grow up thinking it's something cool or exciting. Also, trying to block hate speech doesn't limit hate, it just makes people more creative in how they share it - maybe have these platforms implement a system whereby the user can enter words/phrases they don't want to see so comments/posts with those words/phrases don't show up on whatever platform they're using without the sender knowing they weren't seen. Finally, regarding the part of the proposal that wants to increase European content by requiring a certain percentage - don't. If your content is good, great that means there is a lot of incentive for it to be on these services, but if you just require a percentage of their catalogues to be European, chances are they'll just put shit up there to fill the quota. I don't want to pay for shit.
  19. Depends, are you the type of gamer who turns down the settings in his game as low as they can go to get the best possible performance, or the kind to turn up the settings as far as you can while staying above a certain threshold (such as 60 or 100 fps). If both, depending on the game, decide by how many and how often you play those respective kinds of games. Or, if you have money, get both, and switch between which monitor you game on depending on the game. Or, compromise and get a 165hz 1440p display. Also seeing the difference between 1440p and 1080p is much easier than seeing the difference between 144/165/240hz (at least in my experience), especially after you've spent about 10 minutes with any of the previous refresh rates, you'll be hard-pressed to say, "Man, this 165hz monitor is nice, but it would feel a lot smoother at 240..." Though I'm currently in-between computers, so, for now, I play at 720p60 on my low-end APU machine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  20. No, it was directed to Theresa May. Unless you believe that porn is an evil that should be banned, all hate and/or offensive speech should result in imprisonment, and the UK government should have absolute control over the internet, in which case, I pity and feel sorry for whatever led you to hold those opinions.
  21. I get that opinions can't necessarily be wrong, but if you're arguing things like porn in bad, my hurting your feelings should be illegal, and/or the internet should be regulated by the government, I can't take you seriously and have a discussion with you - you're just an arrogant, self-righteous idiot at that point.
  22. Completely agree. Like people always say, piracy is a service problem - if Netflix would increase their library, get rid of geoblocking, and maintain their (relatively) low price, I would imagine a significant chunk of pirates would simply use Netflix, or equivalent service, for the ease of use. Of course, that wouldn't help those in countries with a poor economy, unless the entire economic structure of the world changed, which it won't.
  23. They really wouldn't be so bad if they didn't go through the whole process of notifying you of an update and then restarting your computer so damn quickly. Case in point, yesterday I was using my computer as normal, got up to go take a piss, came back 2 minutes later and my computer was in the middle of restarting/updating, with me having no notification prior. Luckily I wasn't in the middle of a project (had just finished) or I would've been very, very pissed off right now. If they had an option that said something like, "Don't bother me until [Date+Time]" that would be helpful, but they don't, and "Active Hours" are completely useless. Not having any choice when your computer updates/restarts whatsoever makes people forced to just turn updates off entirely, leading to (or at least not helping prevent) a lot of these problems we're currently seeing.
  24. Eventually, this will evolve into Psycho-Pass. Hopefully not until after I die in, preferably, at least 80 more years. Though it will be interesting (and terrifying) to see where this technology goes in the next 20~odd years. Especially interesting if it gets to a point where you're being judged based on thought crimes, and how it (if at all) distinguishes fantasy from real intent.
