Stressful. I was certain I would screw something up royally and make my $3000 investment worthless. I got the components installed and practically cried when I looked at the mess of wires that I needed to "cable manage" (if you can call what I did cable management).

And when I fired it up for the first time? Nothing. No BIOS, just fans running at 100%. I spent hours disassembling and reassembling trying to figure out what I did wrong, but eventually I gave up and called ASUS tech support, thinking it was possibly a dead motherboard. The extremely helpful tech support guy walked me through troubleshooting it, removing one component at a time, and then jumping it. The conclusion we came to was that it was either a dead motherboard or CPU, so I was proactive and just exchanged both.

But when I reassembled it and hit that power button....wow what a sigh of relief!

On the plus side with all the assembly and disassembly experience I can now tear down my PC completely in about 10 minutes, lol.

This is more the evolution of the medium. We only have people to blame for what YouTube has turned into. If you dont watch the clickbait videos and all kids stopped clicking all of them they would disappear really quick. You cannot blame LTT for evolving with the medium, This is almost required or they wouldn't get the views required to turn a profit and keep the numbers they have. They are a company and companies need to make money and grow. just my IMO I guess, Sucks but only yourself and YouTube to blame.

I sometimes don't realize how much time I spend with the entire LTT crew, I took a few steps back from the forums to focus on my life and coming back .. just this I missed!

LTT is part of my daily routine, my breakfast is spent watching TL (If there's one to watch), if not a main channel or TQ is great to wake up to and soak up some knowledge before leaving for work

What I can honestly say is that Linus sparked my career, I had interests in IT before but after Linus got me deeper into this crazy world back in 2013 it became a passion and now even my job.

The way I do my job is can closely resemble what is seen on the channel, mishaps & "duct tape engineering" included lol

So yeah, a giant thank you to everyone at LTT now & everyone who over the years left or became less prominent
    RIP : Berkel (Nicky V) & Luke..

I feel like there's something to be said about a system where businesses are almost required to behave dishonestly to have a shot at being successful... "there is no moral consumption under..." oh damn, forgot the word.

though in this case specifically I find it hard to consider a misleading title (or even an outright lie in the title) as particularly harmful to their audience. It's annoying, for sure, but maybe not particularly immoral given the circumstances - at worst it's a waste of 1 minute to watch the beginning of the video and figure out it's not actually about what the title says. If they intentionally lied in the video I'd find that a lot more egregious.

As for giving them more money by watching ads and subbing to floatplane I think that's a little misguided, not so much because they're getting them more revenue (not much wrong with that if you really like their content to be honest) but rather because the ad revenue for one person is infinitely lower than a floatplane subscription, not to mention a lot of it goes to youtube anyway and you have to sit through ads (arguably the worst of drawbacks). I'm not really sold on floatplane as a concept but... it's kind of the same as patreon or other crowdfunding methods.

I guess you could argue that LTT is abusing the parasocial relationship they have with their audience... though to be honest I think they've been pretty good about framing it correctly; they haven't really been pushing the idea that they desperately need their audience's direct financial support to stay afloat. Beyond a certain point it's unavoidable people will become irrationally invested in LMG as their personal friends.

That is a much better way of saying what I was originally trying to say, and why I would never want a normal user on an unsupported OS. I would never take the risk ether, but if some one feels they know what they are doing all the more power to them. But I agree with @Master Disaster pushing every one to use an outdated OS is a bad Idea.

I don't really see problems with clickbaits.

LTT is mostly entertaintment slash tech channel and as company they have to make the dough somehow. If clickbaits helps them, whatever.

I generally just watch on floatplane and this is just from memory but I feel as if at least 8 out 10 times they have the informative title so im not really bothered by it. I still enjoy the video's and that's why I watch them, I only get truly annoyed by click-bait if I feel the rug has been pulled out from under me. I can't remember an instance of that with LTT even if it was exaggerated I generally enjoy the content. For example the faster internet video was exaggerating but it was still interesting. What they showed off was faster in a way even if it wasn't something I could take advantage of at this time.

At the end of the day I don't begrudge them for using those types of titles because I know they work on me. So I believe them when they say it increases viewership. Would I rather have more informative titles yes (I do mostly get them on floatplane) but at the end of the day LTT is a business and will do what they feel they need to make money. As long as I enjoy the content I will continue to watch.

Now you're just clutching at straws. SMB V1 was enabled as a default service on all machines and the internet would count as an untrusted network. Here in the UK WannaCry brought the NHS to its knees simply because a lot of their computers were running Windows XP so unless you're suggesting doctors & nurses are exposing their computers to "untrusted networks" you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Fun fact, Microsoft didn't fix the exploit used by WannaCry, the security patch they issued simply disabled SMB V1 globally. To this day MS recommend that users keep SMB V1 disabled on any machine that supports it.

EternalBlue is another example of malware that can spread without the user needing to do anything. The Sasser worm can also spread between machines automatically (though to be fair that one needs a direct network connection).

While we're here lets also talk about your other analogy. Driving an older vehicle might not mean you're going to have an accident however it does mean the chances of you having an accident are increased. Older vehicles are not as mechanically sound as new ones and don't contain the same amount of safety tech either. Running an outdated OS doesn't necessarily mean you will get a virus (though as we discussed it can mean that) but it does increase the chances you will quite significantly.

Coming to a tech forum as large as this one and telling users its OK to run an outdated OS as long as you're careful is frankly absurd. When these users get infected will you take the time to help them fix their issues?
