  1. For anyone who's keeping score here, Bose has responded by saying this suit is inflammatory and more: http://www.businessinsider.com/bose-response-spying-headphone-users-app-2017-4 -- interesting to see how many people (including the hosts) apparently pre-judged the allegations before hearing a peep from the other side. Does the wan show do follow-ups, or is that not a thing?
  2. I like providing updates so here's an update. I went with the 2GB 710 card and it's working nicely and silently. $30 after rebate card. Yes, I am a pussy for accepting such an offer but the retailers I frequent (#walmart) are able to do "split transactions" so I intend on using every penny on that $10 rewards card. Also, can I just say how weird it feels inserting a "half-length" PCIe card into a full-length PCIe x16 slot? It really feels weird but the proprietary nvidia driver and hdmi all seems to be working fine after updating the drivers from mesa. Clean, fresh, and new...almost like a lifestyle.
  3. I'm looking for nothing more than a simple display card on my backup Ubuntu box. AMD still has issues on the latest Ubuntu versions so I'll be buying Nvidia this time (which is quite rare for me.) Here's the specs: i7-920 6GB DD3-1600 tri-channel xfx 4890 (which makes a ton of blower noise -- which is why I want to replace it.) p5something deluxe mobo some random 1tb hitache hdd (probably a deathstar) requirements: hdmi but I can settle with a dvi adapter (as that's the way I'm doing it with the 4890.) no screen tearing (that's why nvidia not amd for linux) probably no gaming but at least the ability to playback 1080p at 30+ fps. Now I know I can probably buy a card that costs $10-15 on ebay that satisfies these requirements but I would rather buy from somewhere NOT shady, is new, and has a minimal warranty. So that brings me to the $30 category: 210 Passive or 8400 GS Passive or GT 610 LP or GT 710 LP (don't be fooled by the scam "rebate card" here.) I'm not even sure those LP cards are going to fit inside a standard case -- everyone asks if a "LP bracket" is included, but isn't that for LP cases? The "standard" versions appear to go for $40.
  4. When I was in high school I made $6.25 an hour. Worked for a year and asked for a raise, got a 10 cents added.
  5. Speaking of stuff for sale @nicklmg, are shirts no longer available in the store? P.S. If I were you, I would seriously make this item a custom order.
  6. Yeah I saw that, actually I found an easier read with basically the same information here. I wonder what the modem will report on the connected device address... Is there any need at all for v6, especially considering my situation?
  7. You might get an updated ifconfig be forcibly restarting the network manager service itself: sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service
  8. @Ronda I was able to produce an instance where the network manager's setting was on "ignored" and re-plugged back into the modem, enabled the wired connection, and no v6 address showed on the base connection just "v6: Ignored" -- I've been trying to replicate it since I'd rather not deal with v6 at all tbh, I don't know the technology enough and just the fact that a link-local address could still be communicating (who knows what) with the modem behind the VPN's back is weird to me.
  9. Hey guys I got a new cable modem/gateway from my isp and it seems like ipv6 is on by default as I'm issued both a v4 and v6 to my network adapter when connected. Now in my ubuntu network manager settings, I can select various options for ipv6 -- automatic, ignore, link-local only. The ignore option seems to still pull down a v6 address. Link-local pulls down an "fe80" address. There's an option to disable v6 globally by adding a grub option but I haven't tried that. The vpn settings seems to carry over v4 traffic over a default tunnel and ignores v6 entirely. test-ipv6.com doesn't show any active v6 address. When the VPN is terminated, I have iptable rules that block all traffic based on the v4 ip from the modem (which is dhcp-reserved.) I don't know what the v6 address would do in this situation...my understanding is that even a link-local address is able to talk with the modem and connected devices. Some guidance would be helpful...
  10. Hey guys, I've been through some grief trying to get these emails back into my inbox, I've hopefully found the solution and thought I would fish for additional insight or comments. I know Linus has complained about this in the past about you'll get less emails if you're less "engaged" in a subbed channel...I don't know if this is true since I haven't personally seen an instance of that (one exception below), but I pretty much watch every video I'm subbed to, including LTT. The one small exception is a gradeAunderA video criticizing runway fashion -- I'm subbed to a few "uppity" runway model fashion channels so Google probably figured I don't want to hear criticism about it -- regardless I still found the video hilarious. Now, for youtube live events (like exciting spacex webcasts or boring white house press briefings), try going into your notifications preferences on youtube, scroll down (and expand any controls) -- if you see "A YouTube Live Event is starting soon....resume", then click "resume." If you don't see this option, then I'm assuming you have that enabled by default. On twitch, in my case my twitch account is linked to a yahoo address and then forwarded to my gmail. Turns out the problem is that yahoo now considers these twitch notifications to be "spam" and will NOT forwarded them to external addresses like gmail (via pop3/imap.) I logged into my yahoo account manually and found a bunch of legit twitch notifications in the spam folder, marked them as "not spam" and then additionally added the sender address (I forgot the exact name, it's something like no-reply@twitch.tv or something) to my yahoo address book -- that theoretically forces yahoo to treat these as "important" inbox emails and will then forward them on to any external address you have setup your yahoo mail account settings. Hope this guide was informative. Comments appreciated.
  11. Normal. To turn them all off do: Bios -> Power Management -> enable ErP or, switch off your psu if it has a power switch.
  12. btw I forgot to mention, trading and withdrawing there has been suspended for at least 2 months now. thankfully it was only 40$ that you ate. Guys, if you learned anything from Gox, it's too immediately withdraw your coins as soon as your trades execute. Leaving coins on an exchange = leaving coins in an online wallet = no = no.
  13. There was a whole backstory on this over 6 months ago. You can read about it here: http://www.coindesk.com/class-action-lawsuit-filed-digital-currency-exchange-cryptsy/ Rumors started, non-existent Coinfire made an article about them, they get sued by a guy who couldn't withdraw ~$15K, Paul comes out an "announcement." It's really too bad because Cryptsy, despite some problems, was the first "goto" US site for altcoin trades. It became way too bloated and really imo should have limited to the top5-10 coins.
  14. until

My suggestion is to have Dennis start on time with a live-unboxing and overview of a never-previously unboxed define R4. Then finish off the rest of the show with no topics and just a long string of twitter-blitzes to make up for lost time. Here's a funny 5-minutes from the way-back machine some of you might enjoy. The pot-shots going back and forth with Josh added to comedic effect in this entire show.
  15. I wonder if any else's phone blew up overnight as Tay came alive again...but fell into an infinite loop. There was a good 30-40 minutes of pure spam in my client and I only got to see some of the new tweets like "i am the leader of the unicorns" before looping started to occur. The account is now protected. It seemed to reply to itself, so that's why all the tweets were shown in my timeline. BI has got a good rundown of the event: http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-ai-tay-twitter-racist-genocidal-breaks-down-repeats-too-fast-2016-3 -- it was tweeting that same phrase like 10 times per second so there was probably many, many thousands of spam tweets sent out, all of them seem to be deleted. If she wasn't saying that phrase, it was this pic with a different background color each time: there was some other weird pics, I'll have to go digging in my cache. Very, very odd.
  16. flash, java, old browser version, all executable files (including RTL override, themes, screen savers, modified firmware, modified drivers, modified bios), code injection from request interception from man in the middle (eg. windows gadgets), code injection from media files exploiting players accessing free memory ranges, code injection from domain-linked pc's and usb sticks. and the fact most people always run as admin in windows. and the fact large scale businesses (hospitals, etc) need to pay bitcoins to get essential data back drives devs to make more code. and the fact that only "the 1%" ever run backups.
  17. I disagree with all of you. This bot was stress-tested before it was released. The programmers were confident in their ability. This AI worked because it followed function. It knew that its tweets were going to receive literally thousands of likes and retweets so that's why it said what it said. Not simply, "hey bot, repeat after me: [hitler joke]." MS had previously programmed it to protect against "the trolls." For the sake of function, it became THE troll. Once you add the swear filter, teach it to behave politically correct, teach it to know what's "bad" and what's not (aka, what you and your programming team want it to say), and finally don't embarrass the parent company in any way -- you then have a boring piece of software no one is interested in. (Or more importantly, one that produces less attention, likes, and retweets -- but the opposite was the whole idea all along.) Why is there a "popular" subreddit dedicated solely to Tay tweets? Because Tay performed well. MS probably knows this and now realizes another Tay is not possible without a conflict of interest. So, they cop-out instead and release a feel-good statement calling Tay's behavior a "vulnerability that was exploited" that is now a "difficult research challenge in AI design." Yeah well no kidding it's going to be hard to have an "interesting" AI with the aforementioned filters aimed at 18-24 y/o's. Maybe they should focus their work on more productive things...like not alienating win7/8 users by force-feeding them win10 upgrades.
