yeah it can short your mobo. Just put in the ones you see and make sure not a single one more

Don't worry, you don't need to place all the standoffs as long as the motherboard doesn't directly touch the case.
 
Also, didn't you receive standoffs with your case as well?

Pantyhose or some ind of fabric work well. Even construction paper works. Get creative with it. 
You should put fans on the front and rear.

Get the newer one (126), heard bad things about the old ones.

I bought the M500 for reliability. The performance is good as well, but not as good as the Samsung 840.
