I was so happy when GOG got this.  I have the original PC CD and was able to get it running on a win 98 machine a few years ago to enjoy the nostalgia.

I remember playing this when I was 6, and never learning there was a "Boost" function.  Needless to say, I never beat it for a good year, LOL.

While I agree in principle, in a policy implementation situation, it'd likely just lead to those with benefits (either personally or in the family) not getting hired. It's a nice talking point, but laws don't change the productivity of a worker. Making a worker more costly than a similar alternative will simply shift the hiring practices.

    Welcome to Reality.

On Minimum Wage Laws: when below the local functional wage floor, all they do is make people pay under the table for very simple things. But people can think "we're helping!" when the law actually does nothing.

When a minimum wage goes above the local functional wage floor, it's a massively discriminatory Law that crushes those without the ability to subsidize the acquisition of skills. The Laws cause discrimination against the low socio-economic standing (homogeneous society) and/or minority racial groups (heterogeneous societies).

The mechanics of the uses for minimum wage laws are well understood, which is why they keep pushing them. They're a brilliant way to cause resentment in those on the left-side of the economic distribution scale while further making it harder for them to succeed. But the campaigns are a great way to abuse the people that think they're getting help from the new laws. Need to produce those cannon fodder for the socialist revolution, somehow.

Agreed, but it is the workers' responsibility to value their time according to the market.  A company is only allowed to pay what the workforce is willing to take, if the workforce is willing to take $5/hr the company will pay $5/hr.

I believe in the original ideals of Unions as they are to help the worker, but history has shown unions have destroyed competitive industries and allowed for corruption.  The US Car manufacturers at the last recession is a prime example.  Michigan Unionized autoworkers inflated the payroll costs enormously inflating the cost of domestic vehicles.  So when Asian and European Car companies opened Non-Union plants to sell cars domestically circumnavigating the stupid import tariffs of automobiles, the importers were now able to offer competitive cars which showed how inflated the domestic car market was.   And the Domestic Auto Manufacturers didn't have the flexibility due to the strangle hold the Unions had on them which finally came to a head when Oil prices skyrocketed and the recession hit.  It took the Government (stupidly) to bail out the auto companies to "save the jobs."  It sounds heartless to say thousands of people should lose their jobs but if their jobs are secured by corrupt corporate/governmental dealing then I think the burnt hands teaches best.

People are too engrossed in their reality-TV, let's plays, streamers, pro sports, etc. to pay attention to the things which ACTUALLY affect their lives until it is too late and then get upset because they did anything until the problem is at a head.

Raising the Minimum wage in my belief will have negative affects on low skilled workers.  Why should a business pay someone $15/hr($31,200/yr) to print tickets at the movie theater?  Say they Spend $50,000 on a kiosk to print those tickets.  They just broke even on their investment after 1.5yr.

I acknowledge minimum wage jobs aren't all filled by 15 and 16yr olds.  There are also plenty of jobs out there where you don't need a college level education to achieve $15-20/hr starting and $20-30/hr after a few experience. Sure those jobs may involve manual labor, landscaping, construction, etc.  But they offer good pay and some even offer pretty good benefits.  The fact people are upset Amazon is/wasn't paying their employees "well" I find absurd.  Those employees were never forced to take that job.  Maybe they felt they needed to, I acknowledge individuals do not always look outside their social or ecosphere.  I personally had a 4-yr degree but was lazy about looking for work and presenting myself in a positive way to employers.  Hell I lived in my parent's basement (classic millennial) for 3 years until I personally made the decision to stop playing video games and actually work on my employment and learn some applicable skills (Lynda.com and hours of Microsoft office training helped a ton).  Got myself a good paying job and moved out of the parents' place.  As some have said before, with the access to a near infinite supply of knowledge on the internet, an individual has little excuse in the modern age to allow him/herself to stagnate in their growth.  Minimum wage jobs are more to simply show a potential employer, "hey I can show up on time, do the job I'm asked to do, and keep on coming back." once that is established someone should either seek more responsibilities and thus become more valuable to their current employer (shift lead, manager, store manager, etc.) or find better employment opportunities.

By increasing the minimum wage you reduce wage competition between employers.  If all employers are locked into a base wage level it is now ILLEGAL for an employee to ask for a lower wage to simply gain experience.  How is a 16yr kid with zero experience supposed to convince an employer he is worth the higher minimum wage.  Lets talk about a person who did something dumb which got them thrown in jail (something non-violent, like drug possession) now they have a mark on their record and can't get employment because of it.  Even if they were willing to work for below the minimum wage to just show they are a good citizen now and are responsible, they can't because it is ILLEGAL to be paid under the minimum wage, which the employee is WILLING to take.  I'm not going to say the minimum wage hurts the poor because that is a straw man argument.  I will say it reduces the marketability of unskilled/non-skilled workers.  Why does Wal-mart have to pay their greeters (someone who literally stands at the front and says "Hi") $15/hr?  What if that person is willing to do it for $5/hr?  That would be ILLEGAL for Wal-mart to pay them so low.

I am not ignoring there are people who currently try to live off of a minimum wage job.  I acknowledge this fact.  Yet I believe for the majority of those doing so, they can get themselves out of that position.  And I acknowledge there are those with medical issues which hinders their marketable skills which can stunt their potential wage growth.  But they are the exceptions to the overall rule, and you shouldn't make laws and regulations because of the exceptions.

It might be that your pump is broken. if the liquid doesn't flow, it doesn't take that much time to let the CPU to start thermal throttling. AFter you've changed the thermal paste or even better, before that, try to listen if you hear if the pump is indeed working or not.

After dealing with xbox's bs for 10 years, I finally decided to join the pc master race. So fed up with xbox I decided to build an over the top system that could run any game at 140+ fps on ultra settings at 1440p. In may of 2016, I got a summer job in the sole hope of saving up for this rig. Throughout the time I was saving up I was watching youtube videos and researching how to properly take care of a pc. On November 5th, 2016, "Fisher" came to life. Named after the green glow of Sam Fisher's night vision goggles, I had finally joined the pc master race.

    Hello Fellow Builders,

I wish to show of my most recent build.  I call her Emerald Shade as you will probably guess why.  Hope you like it!

Back Story, for those who wish to read, I saw the InWin 303 case in some of the Computex coverage this last year and I fell in love immediately.  But I didn't want to just through my current build in such a beautiful case, so I began to plan.  I had dreams of a dual 360 Radiator Water Cooled loop with LED fans and custom cables. The colors hadn't come to me yet but i was searching.  I then came across the Corsair LED SP120 fans and wanted the Green LEDs, sorta my favorite color.  I then purchased the 303 Case in August on sale but then was patient until I could collect enough funds for cabling and a watercooling loop.  I then picked up a EVGA G2 850 as my power supply and green Cable Mod Custom Cables kits and combs (Sadly a few weeks too early for their %20 off sale).  Ordered a EK L360 WC kit, additional AquaCool Fittings, and PrimoChill White Tubing.  As I mapped out the Tubing and found some difficulties which required multiple trips to the hardware store, I got everything set and ready to install the MoBo etc. but I just couldn't let such a beautiful setup be hindered by a non RGB Video Card, thus I purchased a EVGA 1080 FTW DT.  Once the GPU arrived I began transplanting the old into the NEW.

Once I had the water loop all buttoned up after finding some leaks from not tightening the fittings properly, this was my first WC build, I Benched the stock performance of the Build so I can have a Gauge on what my gains were when I started OverClocking.
I was able to OverClock the 4790k to 4.8Ghz at 1.35v with 3 separate aida64 stress tests of 7+hr.  And got my 1080 to 1941mhz with a memory offset of 500mhz.  ScreenShot of Benchmark numbers are below.  I may provide links to the Official results later.

I have noticed, for those still reading,  The Corsair Fans are not optimal for this configuration.  I do not feel a log of air coming from the rear exhausts which are a honeycomb design.  The Case's attic allows for a great deal of heat to swirl around and get "trapped" due to the lack of direct airflow from the Fans which are pushing through a 45mm Rad.  Also I am probably going to install an intake fan next to the IO to promote direct airflow on the Motherboard.

Future Plans,  I do have two EKWB water blocks for the 1080.  Why two? well I plan on SLI in March when I upgrade to Kaby Lake with a mATX MoBo because then the lower GPU would be high enough from the Lower Radiator, which I may have to get a thinner (30mm) radiator.

Using a custom fan curve you can get better results than the default one can offer - as manufacturers side on less db's over more fps.

I wouldn't get a MATX board, id get an ATX and a new bigger case to house radiators. Was gonna suggest a block on the 1080, mine doesn't go above 50C with a 360 + 240mm rad on the GPU (was SLI 970s) You could also add a Mobo chipset block to your loop to help those temps

Quick update.  My idle was a little high and the MoBo heatsinks were getting a little too hot for comfort without direct airflow.

Thus I added a black gloss Cooler master fan from my old Hyper 212.  See Picture below.  Anyone have suggestions on a quite Blacked out fan?  I'm going to keep this fan running at the lowest possible speed for maintain some acoustics.

I added two Vadar Fans from my EK L360 kit to the "attic" to improve the exhaust ability, and tidied up the cable management.

Hello all fellow Linus Tech individuals, though this is not my first post this is a strong introductory post.

In November of last year (2015), I suddenly got struck by the bug to build a PC.  I can't put my finger down on the reasoning behind it, but I believe it had something to do with my fingers getting itchy to fix/build/create/tinker with something during the winter months (Minnesota's weather was just turning foul). I had been a console gamer for a while, 2005, but my roots were from PC games because my father is a database developer he knew his way around PCs and introduced me early age 4. Playing games like AOE II, Madden, and Descent, and getting demo disks to even get samples were good memories.

And with black Friday around the corner I felt I could probably build something which would beat any console with an entry cost of $100 over a 2tb Xbox one.  Thus my search began as I browsed forums (toms, anandtech, linus), read tech articles (anandtech, tom's hardware, pc gamer), discovered youtube tech channels (linus, NCIX, Jayztwocents, Paul'sHW).  Looking to build a PC for "$400+graphics card." This is what I came up with over the shopping holiday.  Went team Blue and Green, with budget Case and PSU.  All prices reflect after tax and mailed in rebates, so true cost out of pocket.

    CPU: i7-4790k - $268.92 (microcenter)
MoBo: MSI Z97s Krait SLI - $75.79 (microcenter)
    Mem: Corsair Veng Pro 2x8GB ddr3-2400 - $69.99 (Newegg)
    SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB - $75.09
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC" - 271.99 (Newegg.com, this does not reflect the Class-action Lawsuit $30 "rebate")
Case: Thermaltake Versa H22 (4 case fans included) $42.83 (microcenter)
    PSU: Thermaltake TR2 600w 80+ Gold $39.99 (Newegg.com)
OS: Win 7 key from dead laptop, "upgraded" to Win 10

    Build Total: $844.6

So didn't end up being "$400+GPU" but I felt I got a solid build.

A couple weeks later, I upgraded the storage and cooling with a Seagate 3TB HDD ($90) and a Hyper 212 ($25) from microcenter.

After this upgrade, the build became my gaming pc for Battlefront, Modded Skyrim and other titles that I had picked up after my first Steam Black Friday sale.

With the sudden Launch/announcement of GTX Pascal, I was suddenly revitalized into PC building etc.  I wanted to learn as much as possible, and without an end goal of simply purchasing parts and building I wandered the vast expanse of PC parts.  I started following LTT, Paul's HW, Jayztwocents, and Kyle-Awesomesauce religiously after Subscribing to all and watching them digest the news of Pascal and its impact on PC gaming.  After watching moving Vlogs from both Jay and Linus, I felt the need to upgrade my PC work space from a couch and old HDTV to a desk and proper monitor.

Copying Jay and Paul I found a used IKEA Galant Desk for my set up.

The Next step in my evolution was Submitting my PC to a "PimpMyPC" this last week on AwesomeHardware.  Surprisingly they did comment on it.

This gave me the motivation to revisit the my cable management which was described by Paul as a "Nightmare."

Thus I was able to produce the following results:

Which after tagging Paul and Kyle on twitter, Kyle was very gracious and gave me the Praise and reassurance I was seeking! #namedrop

And if you have made it this far in reading my journey, I thank you.  I hope to continue more into the software side of things now that I have my PC straightened out.  But plan on upgrading to a Modular PSU and Windowed case in the near future so I can admire my build rather than let it hide in plain sight.

Here is a link to my current PC build on PCPartpicker with purchase prices.
