Save buck on the SSD so you can get that juicy juicy 6700K.

Don't be deceived by the CPU cooler, it's better than a 212 EVO + cheaper.

This PSU is way better.

ok, so as the title says this is my first build ever and basically i just wanted someone to give it a quick check over to see if i have created any bottlenecks or gone with overkill items in any places. i would use this pc mostly for gaming and would like it to be fairly quiet and run cool even when overclocked. ideally it could be upgraded in the future

swap the NEX for a better unit, it performs badly. if you're playing in 1080p 144hz, get an i7 instead as the 6600k will bottleneck. also, you can get the cheaper and similar performing cryorig m9i for 10 pounds less. otherwise its fine.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

i7 is no needed if he doesnt play at 1080p 144hz, because i5 wont bottleneck if he doesnt playat 144hz

i5 gets much more stuttering compared to an i7 and gets 5-30 fps lower performance in games.

guy's i5 4670 maxes out at 100% with a gtx 1070 while his friend's 3770 is at 60-80%

i believe that there are other veteran members who can attest to i5s bottlenecking in 1080p 144hz too.

but its 100$ more expensive and for gaming its not worth...

when you're playing at 1080p 144hz you'll want every frame you can get, otherwise there will be no point getting that higher refresh rate anyways.

then just let him get a 980ti, it will support 144hz i guess

he's already getting a gpu with the performance of a gtx 980ti. my point is that he should get an i7 to fully utilise the 144hz refresh rate, which he would not be able to utilise as well with an i5.

Upgrade the Power supply to a G2 if you are staying with EVGA or check out this thread for PSU guidelines.

And don't worry about the 6600k "bottlenecking" a GTX 1070. Spend the difference on a 240 AIO cooler and Overclock the CPU.

Storage:  I would ditch the samsung 850 and go with a Samsun SM 951 256GB M.2 running in PCIe Mode.  Then Later purchase the Evo SSD in a holiday sale.

first off thanks for the quick and helpful reply's.

taking into consideration what has been said i decided to go for the i7-6700K over the i5-6600k mostly for future proofing of the system. a better power supply (650W so i could maybe go SLI down the line) and the Kingston Fury 480GB SSD.
