  1. Just got a ticket ;

I can't log into app ****, but I can login fine on website ****.

I'm wondering if it's related to printer *default multi-fuction printer* not printing on bin 1 anymore ?

context app is internal and isn't related to the website mentioned, it's like saying you can't log into Facebook but can still log into the email you used to register your FB account with ... and why would being unable to login somewhere related to a printer's default bin ?????

I need a break and another coffee.

Would a surge protector protect against dirty electricity ? Or that has nothing to do with it. Also is there anything you guys would recommend me trying?

A surge protector will be useless in that case, only thing that would help is making sure to fix the issue, of use a UPS.

Electricity is electricity. There is one circuit running through your whole house (well different circuits but separated by lights and outlets). I can assure you your "first floor electricity" is the same as the electricity in all your house. You can't "infect" it in any way. "Dirty" electricity is just a way of saying that the conversion from AC to DC is done poorly so there's big drops in voltages in your PC.

    That's not exactly true.

"dirty" electricity is a thing, there's even a video on LTT where they encountered that issue in one of their previous location.

It can be anything, a problematic outlet, old wiring, a poorly made junction somewhere in the walls, a defective circuit breaker, a defective appliance on the same circuit, etc...

Only way to really know is to have the circuits tested by a master electrician (voltage drop, frequency fluctuation, circuit amp load, etc)

Supposedly according to Louis Rossmann’s latest video Reddit is restoring people’s deleted posts without their consent. I have no idea if this is actually true or not. Anyone have any more information?

It's not exactly true as far as I've seen ; lots of people have removed or edited their posts while some subs were still "dark", you can't see or edit posts you've made in a sub that has been privated, so once those subs came back as public or restricted, posts and comments that were previously "hidden" (because of privatized subs), became public again, making it look like posts and comments were "restored".

At least, that's what it seems like, I haven't looked further into it, it's not impossible for Reddit admins to restore posts and comments though, but I just don't see why they would do this.

My point is, if you want to fight misinformation, general and broad statements aren't the way to go and in this case, swings too far and propagates misinformation in statements like this ; "accessibility will continue to work without the developers having to do anything"

As the the apps with accessibility, from what I understand, only one was approved for now. If that changes great, if not, it could be problematic. I don't use or need those apps, so I'll refer to what the people needing those apps are saying. The mods from r/blind have meet with Reddit a few times already and they don't seem convinced.

In the end, I don't think it will have the impact most are saying it will. Yes, mods and power users will leave, but they'll probably be replaced and most will learn to live with it. Thing is, Reddit is now a huge trove of information, that reason alone is why I think it'll survive, at least for a while because for now, there are absolutely no comparable alternatives.

To be fair, I think LAwlz is trying to take a middle of the road approach here.

Not sure how it's middle of the road approach when he's saying accessibility tools becoming worse is misinformation, when people using those tools are actively trying to make sure Reddit listens to them and are pretty discouraged at Reddit's responses (or lack of it).

Like you said, it might be true that 90% of users are not using 3rd party apps, but a lot of power users are, and that's the users that create, or moderate the content (I think it's called the Pareto rule or something?).

For the rest I kinda agree though, pretty sure for the vast majority of the subs, things won't be as bad as people say (mod tools and bots)

I can not disagree more. I ran my homelab for years on an i3 6100 (2 core 4 thread chip, and it never broke a sweat. ESXi was my hypervisor, VM’s consisted of:

    truenas

    3x Ubuntu server

    Windows LTSC

    home assistant

    UniFi controller

    NUT

I had almost a dozen docker containers, one of which was pihole

One of the ubuntu servers hosted a Plex server

CPU was typically below 20%, rarely jumping over 50%…

You can do a lot more with a quad core then most people realize. I only had 28GB of RAM which was my limitation. That’s what drove me to Xeon…. Now I have 128GB of RAM and literally more threads then I know what to do with. My Xeon rarely even hits double digits CPU usage.

Im not saying an i7 isn’t a fine idea, I’m just saying 4 cores for a homelab goes a lot farther then most people need.

I know excessive overprovisioning is fine to some extent, but I never felt comfortable with it.

That post seems truthful to me. What would they be lying about and what goes against what I said before?

    This ;

all third-party tools specifically designed for moderating and accessibility will continue to work without the developers having to do anything

The people at r/blind 100% disagree, the only approved accessibility 3rd party app doesn't have the mod tools they need,, and Reddit itself isn't compatible with screen readers and other accessibility needs.

Accessibility is an actual issue for a huge part of that community, yet you labelled that as misinformation, I'm wondering why?

Not on topic, but is there an advantage to running your one DHCP server like that?

I have "prosumer" equipment, 1 router, 3 switches and 2 AP, they're all controlled through the server.

I have mesh wifi on my 3 floors and I can update my device's firmware from my phone.

I can easily reserve IPs, block devices, have my IoT on a separate virtual network, so if there's a security issue, my PCs aren't on the same network.

There's more (dynamic DNS, VPN from my router, firewall with lots of logs and network data, etc..)

    It's overkill ... But I'm a sysadmin, I can't stop myself from using this stuff! 🤣

Ah. thanks for the advice. We'll see what the exact specs are when I get it. But it seems that the i7 would likely still be 4 cores.

So tempting to buy a cheap B450M mobo and RAM to go with my old Ryzen 5 2600 CPU. But those boards are still expensive for previous gen, and I am curious how cheap I can get this (so far, it's $0 lol).

Sorry, I meant 8 threads, it makes a difference 👍

  11. This thread was cleaned multiple times, but sadly the OP's title and post were extremely antagonistic and condescending, not something that will work if you want an actual explanation into what is happening, if you actually care.

This thread has obviously ran it's course, especially with the high horsing and condescending tone throughout.

Happy or not about what's happening, the community standards still apply.

Those tools you are talking about are not affected by these changes. That's why I called it misinformation, because what you think is happening isn't really happening. It's not just the official mod tools and bots that will continue to work, all third-party tools specifically designed for moderating and accessibility will continue to work without the developers having to do anything, except maybe email reddit and be whitelisted (if Reddit missed them in the whitelisting they did earlier).

Question, are the mods on r/blind lying?

    https://old.reddit.com/r/Blind/comments/14ds81l/rblinds_meetings_with_reddit_and_the_current/

  13. With the description of the hardware (i5 with DDR3) means you'll have little room to play with (4 cores for a hypervisor is useless IMO).

You could see if you can get a cheap i7 for that generation and look to get to 32gb of RAM (used DDR3 is VERY cheap), with 8 cores you'll have room to breathe and might be able to experiment.

My home server is a i7 3770 with 32gb of DDR3 and I'm running Win10 with everything in Docker containers, and it's close to it's max (it's used as a NAS, media server, VPN server, home automation server, torrent box, network controller (DHCP & DNS) and a few things I'm sure I'm forgetting).

  14. If you feel like a fresh install is needed because of this and other bugs, then it's a good idea to do so, it's not too long to do and it will give you an idea if it's Windows or not, make sure to use it close to "vanilla" as much as possible, and start installing your applications slowly instead of all-at-once since a bad driver or application could be the issue.

I was reading around and windows deprecated the dynamic disk. Do you use a RAID controller to handle the raid portion?

The MB has integrated Intel RAID setup, so yes I'm using a RAID controller, I don't use Windows RAID anymore, got burned once and decided to stay far away from it.

I'm going off memory, I would have to go back through all the articles I read about it, but didn't the researcher went back later to find his thumbnail still present on Eufy's server ? I can't remember the timeline but many researchers and experts mentioned the way Eufy dealt with the thumbnails was against GDPR guidelines.

As for the access to the stream, like I said, getting a specific serial (like for spying on a "target") would be impossible, but getting a serial number isn't ; if I remember right, the serial is written on the retail box, and getting a used camera means someone might know the serial. As for the token, it can be brute forced, I don't have the source, but after Eufy came out saying it wasn't possible, someone tried and proved them wrong (again, this has been weeks and I would have to go through a ton of articles to find the source, and I might be wrong on some details since I'm gooing off memory).

With that said, Eufy at least fixed all that including the API calls in clear text with the AES key also in clear text ...

  17. Just now, Imbadatnames said:

They actually are deleted but after the time they’re legally allowed to have them for.

Nope, as per GDPR, if the account is deleted, the uploads have to be deleted, that's not a problem elsewhere, but the original researcher was under GDPR and proved the media on Eufy were kept longer than allowed.

    Just now, Imbadatnames said:

Which is the point because it’s pretty much impossible to actually use this. It was stated as if people can remotely hack into it with no effort

Getting the serial of a specific camera is almost impossible, yes, but getting the serial number of a camera in general isn't impossible.

    Just now, Imbadatnames said:

How did they market it as no cloud when the cameras have advertised cloud functionality?

Exactly, their marketing is the main issue here.

    Just now, Imbadatnames said:

But the point is as far as vulnerabilities go they’re not exactly useable. One requires physical access and as we all know physical access is access and the other is just thumbnails being uploaded for functionality in the app.

None required physical access, not sure why you're saying that. The thumbnail isn't much of an issue IMO, the problem is that it was uploaded even if you had SMS only notifications and were not following GDPR ... having a reason for the thumbnails doesn't mean they can ignore laws and regulations.

Again, this has been fixed since, but it was 100% an issue at the time.
