  1. Did a custom clean install, there was no options for Quake. No new desktop icon So either they've replace the installer in the last hour since I downloaded it or the icon is only placed in express mode. Also, I should probably uninstall BF1's open beta... I normally just type program names into the start menu to launch them or use the taskbar... Also my God Mode folder no longer shows its name...
  2. Gen 1 is essentially 3.0 Gen 2 is 10 GBit/Sec So no, its essentially USB 3.0 renamed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Better explanation: https://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/03/explaining-the-usb-3-1-gen-1-port-in-the-retina-macbook/
  3. 3rd generation Titan X
  4. A year ago you say? You're accounting for the difference in currency value right? I quite remember the pound devaluing quite a bit shortly after the Brexit vote. Your prices are probably just adjusted to currency value.
  5. All it takes its dropping the CPU a tiny bit above the socket. LGA is no safer than PGA. Just don't pull a Linus and you'll be fine with either.
  6. I've dropped a 8120 before and bent every single pin, bent them all back and it still works 4 years later. You're seriously exaggerating something that is no more different than someone accidentally dropping their new Intel CPU into the socket and bending those tiny pins that bend much easier and having the send the motherboard back. You take a second and carefully place the CPU in, makes no difference if it's either a LGA or PGA socket.
  7. Really? You know how easy it is to bend the pins back with a credit card? You just treat it as carefully as you would placing your Intel CPU into your new motherboard and you have zero problems.
  8. http://www.usdebtclock.org A decade ago, Medicare/Medicaid used to be nearly equal to military spending, Social Security used to be slightly below the both of them. Military spending has gone down 50 billion in the last few years, while Medicare/medicaid has super ballooned with the Affordable Care Act (The budget items for ACA are just thrown into "Medicare/Medicaid" even though they are separate.), and Social Security has been exponential growing in cost to maintain itself for years.
  9. Replace all your home lighting with LEDs. Cause there is no way your system is using 50+% of the monthly power usage. This house has 3 gaming rigs that have AMD hardware and use more power at max load, 2 older 150 watt 65" projection TVs, electric stove/oven, electric dryer, furnace with electric fans etc, we barely use 1050 a month.... That or game less with that PC. If this is really the case, you seriously need to think about how you spend your money. This is the equivalent of buying a Ferrari/Corvette/Lambo when you already barely could afford your car insurance with a 90's economy car. If you don't have about 10-15%, minimum 5%, of your income as extra a month, you've overextended your spending and seriously need to cut back.
  10. The capacitors in the power supply probably had enough in them to supply enough power to the motherboard in sleep mode during the time the power supply wasn't receiving power. I personally have started replacing my HP server's dual power supplies every few years (Alternating) because they don't last through short hiccups in the grid either. (Nothing important enough to warrant a UPS. Just takes forever to boot.)
  11. Now it all makes sense. Hardcore anti-american, no wonder he dislikes SpaceX so much.
  12. At least were not paying for 30/5, getting 32/6, then switched to 50/5...... Then get 32/6... even after a few phone calls... Funnier thing is, they offered 100/10 for a short time around here, then turned around and said the lines couldn't handle it...
  13. Especially with their shift toward Netflix Original Content
  14. Teamviewer can still output the Windows GUI with no display as long as there is some graphics card or integrated graphics available. So can Google Remote Desktop. CMOS worked. No idea why it worked, considering nothing has changed in 2 years... but it worked.
  15. Yes, for years. All I've done in the past is the clean the system every couple months. Last hardware change was installing the 240 and SSD in 2014. Used DDU to uninstall the drivers and any older versions, and downloaded fresh drivers. Will try CMOS in a second here. Got to drag out a VGA display first since it defaults to the integrated.
  16. I've tried two different cards, and before I tried the 2nd card, I took the 240 out and reset it as I've loose cards in the past as well.
  17. Currently trying to solve a no display detected issue on my father's computer. Specs: ASUS M5A78L-M LX Motherboard AMD FX 8120 @ Stock with Stock Cooler (System is in a high airflow server chassis, all temps are pretty good.) (Purchased in the first month they went on sale.) Originally had a ASUS R7 240 in it. (He doesn't do any gaming and wanted something newer than the integrated graphics. Lots of hard drives, an SSD and 1 RAID card. We've tried different displays. (A pair of TVs via HDMI and VGA, and an old 90s CRT monitor.) We've tried using my old HIS AMD Radeon HD 7750, also no display. We've tried DDUing the graphics drivers and reinstalling... No dice. My father is planning to replace his system after Intel's and AMDs next processors get released. So I need to find get this to work for a few more months, and I'm out of ideas at this point.
  18. What? I ran the beta @ 60 FPS locked 1080 Ultra with a 8320 and 390... Only had issues with dips if too much stuff was blowing up next to me... (Which I normally died anyway so the dips didn't effect playing the game..) Unless the game is limited by only having 4 threads...
  19. Amazon, Newegg, Fry's, Tiger Direct, Micro Center, Local Computer Store etc.
  20. Dang, I clicked on this thread just to post that or Computer McPuter Face
  21. What do you have now? There is so much new stuff coming out in late December and January, is there no way you could stretch what you have til the end of the year and reevaluate then?
  22. First off, if you had to sell your previous desktop when you moved, don't you think maybe asking for $1500+ USD system is a little much? Of course they shot you down. Find some work, and buy the system part by part. It sounds like your parents aren't in a position financially to just spend that kind of money. Don't pressure them. Buying your first computer with your own, hard earn money can be very rewarding.
  23. Only thing that can stop this is if Google (Youtube), Amazon (Twitch), Facebook, Netflix, etc.; Realizing this could cut their profits from power users no longer having the data to view their content (and ads), plus the stuff the really need to save data for (Work, school, etc.); feel they need to fight against the caps. In the current system, only money talks. Without some of the big internet companies fighting this, this will become the norm for more than just comcast, this will spread to the other major cable companies and other ISPs.
  24. We need to convince companies like Facebook, Netflix, Amazon (Twitch), Google (Youtube) to fight this for us. Large corporations give no fucks about us individuals, we'll need to convince a few big corporations to fight this to have any chance to stop it. If this isn't stopped here, it's a matter of time before Charter/TWC apply this nationwide as well. I mean, I use around 60 GBs a day average alone, there is 4 other people in this house...
