Yah sounds good. i have my NAS in the computer room mounted on a shelf out of the way. But yah in living room it would look ugly.
You're going to need a simple usb to sata or a pi hat to connect a drive to the raspberypi. so like $20-$30 for that, a drive if you have one already. and then the case. possibly a larger power supply to run both. good HDD pulls like 10W, ssd maybe 7-8W. So plan acordingly.
Or another fun option. find a broken dvd player, VHS player? and rip it apart and shove a pc in that or the pi. make it look like it belongs in the living room 🙂 I actually tried this once. Ended up with a mini pc for living room tv. Got lucky and picked up a Dell Optiplex 7040 Micro PC for $25!

I already have a Pi 4 as well so I think that would probably work well. I’d just need to find a case that doesn’t look terrible and I would be golden.

How did I not find this thread till now? Maybe I did and forgot idk. Anyways here is a good chunk of my older components.
My old abit AM2 bored I pulled out of an garage sale custom built PC. the GPU, HDD and ram where missing (the ram you see there i put it later to test components and run the system abit) but the case, CPU, a couple of IDE Lightscibe DVD drives and the PSU where there. Don't have the case anymore unfortunately but I still have the rest.
The Athlon that came with the system (sorry the pictures are blurry my phone camera is trash and refuses to focus)
A, no joke, GT 420. It was a slow card even back in it's day but I think we all know why.
Some old laptop GPU's and CPU's (I think they are mostly Pentium 3 and 4s) a Pentium 4 640, a Core 2 Duo E6550 and some old laptop ram.
And finally the most interesting old part I own a passively cooled 8600GTS? from Asus.
I have a few other old parts laying around but they are mostly LGA 775 boards and old heatsinks. I also have some old consoles too like a Dreamcast and N64 but I felt like those didn't really fit this thread.

Testing a few things out on the bench... It'd be rude to not christen this system with a Dreamcast game wouldn't it

SukaroBlue reacted to SteveGrabowski0 in Smallest Drive you can install in a ps4.
250GB will be fine. I think the minimum is 120GB for PS4. I swapped out the 160GB drive from my PS3 into my PS4 so I could install my entire PS3 digital library at once (since installing games is super slow on PS3 but fast on PS4) and my PS4 worked same as before with the old 160GB drive installed.

Hopefully this video will start another wave of people making these builds. I always love seeing people making sleepers out of consoles.

This build looks amazing. When it's finished you should make it run a dreamcast emulator for shits and giggles.

SukaroBlue reacted to Mnky313 in PS2 High performance PC Build
Short story, Me and a few friends are working together to make a PC inside a PS2 chassis (fat), we have been planning it out for a while now and just ordered an old PS2 to get accurate measurements because we can't find accurate measurements online, we are working off of one image from a forum 7 years ago and some guy's sketchup model, but so far we might have it theoretically working with an optical drive and internal FlexATX PSU, I attached some images and here is a PC parts list (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KH2cmq), there might be enough room if we lightly modify the heatsink for the GPU to have some of those controller port to USB adapters, as well as a rear 3d-printed or acrylic backplate with custom holes for the I/O and airflow cut into it. questions and ideas/flaws you might see would be appreciated, thanks!

1. Near zero as long as you choose the right parts
2. RMA/Return
3. See 1
4. You can return, stop being worried
5. Yes, but why are you ordering from NewEgg alone

SukaroBlue reacted to InertiaSelling in Scrapyard Wars 7
Everyone's excited I guess. Now, what I'd personally like to see is a custom case competition, which means no off-the-shelf computer case. They would have to either mod an existing object so that it can house components, or make one on their own. Looks and overall creativity would matter just as much as performance in the final judgement.
EDIT: Almost everyone apparently @JDE

There aren't really any others i can think of. I guess you could watch the WAN show but that's an hour long podcast that is effeminately not as close as being frequent. honestly Linus should just take some of his B team and make them do some sort of tech news show.
