Well I must admit, I'm quite proud of this mod.
I own one of these for some reason: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/E350M1USB3/
(Sorry for the sideways photo, this camera app doesn't have a landscape lock)
I noticed that the board was designed to have a wifi card...
So I grabbed an old laptop motherboard, and heatgunned the wifi slot and mounting standoff off.
And then I lazily soldered it on. Didn't bother cleaning up the flux, or inspecting the joints.
And believe it or not, the stupid thing works.
I honestly expected there to be at least a couple extra components on the board for this slot that weren't populated, but I guess it literally only needed the slot and a standoff
Silly asrock! I can't even find a wifi version of this board...

I'm both amazed and not surprised at all that this worked. On one hand, it's so damn simple, I dont know why no one has done it before. On the other, it makes sense for ASrock to just have a simplified manufacturing process and leave certain components off to "disable" features. Vehicle manufacturers do this often, wiring up the parts for heated seats even though the trim selected doesnt have them.

@CUDA_Cores you know he just has a cheap 3 in 1 solder and rework station right?
